Calling the Italians

Way back in the dark ages (1960's) I worked across from an Italian Restaurant. The owner was Italian and his family worked there with him. No Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill type of food. I can't remember much on the menu except for pizza and pizza burgers. I remember the pizza burgers so well because I and a girlfriend loved them so much that we had them for lunch thirty days in a row, except for weekends, and never grew tired of them. Anyone have a really good recipe for pizza burgers? Google doesn't bring up anything close to what I'm speaking of. The meat was a wonderful mixture and in the center of it was some type of cheese which was all melty when it came to the table. The seasoning was perfect and while I'm sure it may have had some oregano there was not a lot which I was glad of because I'm not a fan of oregano. The restaurant has been gone for many years because the owner was gray headed even then.

I've never had what you describe, but it sure sounds good! Other than isolating what flavors you like on your pizza and using that as a base, maybe you can get a really good "meatball" recipe, doctor it up, and use that to make the patties, but stuff 'em with cheese? Jack cheese? Mozzarella? Fresh ricotta?

Just a thought. I'm going to be watching this thread for some good ideas!

I dont have a so called recipe but my neighbors who were Italian did meatloaf and burgers Italian style. Before it was trendy (when I was a kid in the late 60's) the Grandma would stuff the inside with Mozzarella and top with Marinara and more Mozzarella. The meat was seasoned with salt pepper garlic and grated cheese(almost like a meatball mix...as far as I remember...they ate it on cut Italian Bread opposed to buns and they didnt add lettuce or any other condiments. These were the same neighbors who use to feed me PASTINA& BUTTER for lunch...first time I ever tasted it I was amazed... I thought "what is this?" my Irish mother never served anything like this!!! and I use to love when theyd call me & Maria (there daughter) in from playing in the snow and theyd have a huge pot on the stove....SO SIMPLE BUT SOOOO GOOD! That truly started my love affair with Italian Food I must of been all of 3 years old!

Agreed, mulch would be the best way. Or you can try a narrow raised bed, so the peppers hang outside the bed. Third option would be to select a variety of Italian frying pepper that has not been bred to be so short.

Thanks for this information Vasile. Mine should get plenty of heat down here in the deep south :) Maggie, I'm not sure what I have. It did not fruit this year. It was an impulsive purchase when I was buying another tree. This was the reason I asked the question, and the responses have confirmed what I thought. There are a lot of possible cultivars that are called "Italian Everbearing". Next year will disclose more about the one I have. It will surely fruit then.

There is a tomato listed by this name, in the 2006 Seed Savers Exchange yearbook. The descriptions by the two folk who list it are as follows: 80 days (to ripe fruit), plants were loaded with medium to large fruits, full abundant flavor, did very well in western Montana garden, good canning tomato, from IA SSE HF 80 days plants bear an abundance of huge fruit, fantastic flavor Where did you get your seed? Help!! Paint color for kitchen cabinets?

Do you have an extra subway tile? If so, go to the paint store and match one of them to the white for the cabinets. Right now, that tile does not go well with the cabinet color. You dont want to have that happen again. Once you find a color that goes well with the backsplash, then put that color by your countertops. If it goes well there,, then put the samples up on your cabinets and next to your backsplash etc, and look at them for a couple of days, in your room. Its hard to tell from a computer screen, but, take a look at Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace.

That sounds about what we did with a Recipe similar to my Italian meatballs and Hamburgers.
I always had an affair with Italian food, then my my wife came along.
I cheated on her. I still had an affair with the food.lol!
