1. If your husband is disabled, can he get disablity insurance thru social security etc. Is there state disability avaiable? You may need some legal help and because you appear to be around senior citizen age, from 55-up, you can contact some senior groups to ask for help. As to your grandkids, thank you for caring and doing your best. For clothes, check the cosignment shops also, as they usually have good clothes and toys in better condition. Do you belong to a church? Talk to the principal of the school, as most PTA;s have clothing closets usually at the chairman of that dept home. How about medical, talk to the children's dr's, the social service department of the local medical center/hospital. You may not be able to work full time, talk to your employer for ideas. How about the children's social worker. If you do not feel he/she is helping you out, talk the their supervisor. I am sure the children are upset also being taken away, and make sure they know they did NOTHING wrong. Do the parents have visitation rights? Are they getting some counseliong also? (children) Are their other relatives that could help, not financially, but with baby sitting. Could the children be again released to their parents? Don't be afraid to ask any one for help and if you do not get the answers you want, keep asking. Keep everything documented in a notebook-- I truly wish you the best. Marie

While not from Grandma, these are two that I enjoy making and everyone enjoys eating. Posted by: Linda_Lou on the Harvest Forum Sweet Pickle Chunks Pour boiling water over 24 pickling cukes for 4 days  each day. On 5th day, drain. Cut cukes in chunks and add this syrup after bringing to a boil. 8 cups sugar 4 cups cider vinegar 5% acidity 3 1/2 tsp. pickling and canning salt 2 Tbsp. pickling spices, tied in a bag Drain and heat syrup each day for 2 more days. On 4th day, pack pickles into jars, seal with lid. Process in water bath canner for 10 minutes. The hollow ones are just how the cucumbers were. You can tell if they are hollow by putting them in water. If they float, they are hollow. They still taste fine. Add pickle crisp if desired. Sweet Stickles 5 lbs. large and whitened overgrown regular slicing cucumbers ½ c pickling lime 3 3/4 cup sugar 2¼ t celery seed 3 c white vinegar 2¼ t canning salt Peel and seed cucumbers. Cut into 2"- 3" sticks. Mix lime with 2 quarts of water, add the cucumber sticks and soak overnight. Rinse and drain 3 times in cold water. Soak in fresh cold water 3  4 hours. Drain. Combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Add cucumber sticks and let stand overnight. Simmer, covered, 30 minutes until cucumbers and clear. Stir frequently. Pack into hot jars, seal and process for 10 minutes in a boiling water bath. Makes 4 pints Linda

They recover so fast :O As for pollination you're right, pollinating one Green Crassula Ovata with another Green Crassula Ovata will more than likely result in the same plant; you'd have to be the luckiest person on the planet for that method to throw out a new variant (The results will unlikely be good (Inbreeding))... What's even worse is that because Most Crassula Ovatas (Or succulents in general) are reproduced by clones their DNA is too similar (Normally identical) to successfully pollinate (And create a seed), if pollen with DNA contacts a flower with the same DNA the flower will die (To prevent wasted energy and inbreeding, as a seeds main job is variation and evolution). However, Hybridising two different species is different (So long as they share the same plant family (Crassula) and are close enough to still be compatible (Not always), same with grafting. If you got the pollen from something dissimilar (Noticeably different) it will certainly have different DNA, you could try and cross a Crassula Gollum with a Crassula Marginata and you could result in something entirely new (Crassula Gollum X Marginata), a deep red Gollum... yummy! Best way to do this is to ensure that bugs play no part in pollination, cover the flowers you wish to pollinate with a plastic sandwich bag (+elastic band), when the flowers are open collect pollen from one plant by hand and 'paint' it onto another flower (Delicately), then re-cover it and wait for the seed. If they flower at different times of the year you can pop that pollen in a container and store it in the fridge (Humidity is your enemy though, so some humidity cellulose packets will help). I've done it successfully with Orchids which flowered at different times of the year (It produced viable seeds) but I just didn't know how to germinate the seeds (As we said near the start of this nice conversation, no easy task).
