I don't know how to link. Perhaps someone can help me out? If you google Hamilton Inc. Los Angelas and pull up the store, I think that the ladderback wingback chair is right there. It has a cane/rush seat, cushions, but the wing part is open so air passes through it. Does anyone have any idea who else sells this chair for less?

After looking at Hamilton's website, it seems that this is a special reproduction they manufacture themeselves. I looked at a few of the furniture discounters that carry high end lines and could not find Hamilton listed. Here's a picture of the chair:

This chair from French Heritage has a very similar frame but with a different cushion design on the chair but you could probably have similar cushions made separately.

On Homeportfolio.com it has the retail price for this chair as $1,568.00 ($1,210 without tie pad) and $812.00 ($619 without tie pad) for the ottoman. I know Boyles and Carolina Furniture both carry this brand. Just out of curiousity how much is the chair from Hamilton?

What is it you like about the chair? It's very similar to some other rush seat ladderback chairs I've seen except for the wood wings on the top. If you're not set on the wingback element, Calico Corners has this version. Many other manufacturer's (e.g. Harden, Ethan Allen, Sam Moore, Michael Thomas) offer a similar chair as well.

Thank you for the link linley! I saw the chair in person while traveling, and it was very wide, came up high behind the head, and was very comfortable. I also thought it was interesting looking in person, and I normally do not like wing back chairs. I did see the Calico Corner version but it is a bit short behind the head for being "the" chair for reading a great book and wanting to be really comforable. I also thought it was a chair that would be easy to move about as my reading nook cannot see the TV, and if we had guests over watching a movie, I could slide it over and it would be a really comfortable chair for watching a movie as well.

I am slowly putting the house together, piece by piece. It still has a ways to go, but like so many others, I want it to be somewhat put together for the holidays. But I am not as stressed/nor overwhelmed as I was. I am beginning to see the effect of layering. That when each piece goes in, I hyperfocus on "that" piece...is it right, if I looked more, could I find something "better". I am now seeing as lighting, art, fabric etc. goes in, you do not focus on that one piece, but on the room as a whole. I still wish I could find the perfect antique piece when I want it, and not have to settle to fill/finish a room with a reproduction piece, simply because I am not willing to invest years in trying to locate "the"piece.

P.S. Do you think the chair is unattractive? You can be honest. It is outrageously priced, and I could easily move on and choose something reasonable.

I'm glad to hear things are coming along with your house. I really related to your earlier posts as I am also very cost conscious but like fine things. I tried working with decorators as well but just couldn't find one that made it worth the price. So now, I'm trying to do it on my own - that's probably why I still don't have 1 room really done after 4 years!

IMHO, the chair is a very unique accent piece and has a quiet charm however I don't think I would pay an outrageous or even expensive price for it. I'm not sure you get the bang for the buck like you would with fine casegoods where you can really see the difference in the wood finish.

Would you consider buying things from eBay? I've had great luck finding Baker and Karges pieces on there and the prices can''t be beat. If you would like more info, feel free to email me from my profile.
