I know what you mean. One suggestion people always give is to create an folder of kitchens you like a lot (from magazines, online, wherever). Well, I did that. I had everything from cottage to modern to steampunk to industrial to eclectic to what is it/I have no idea. I had colors, I had no colors. OK, let's narrow it down. Well, that helped a bit but not much. I'm all over the place, too. Awhile back, we had a discussion where someone posted their most favorite kitchens and asked people to help them assess them. It was quite interesting as people picked up elements I wouldn't have considered. I don't recall them but it would have been things like, for example, all the kitchens have an island without a sink and all have light wood floors and all have mixed metals. It was those little things that tied them together, not the style itself. You might see if you can find it. I don't recall what was called. Sorry. You might also post photos in another discussion here to see if you get helpful analysis. I'm skeptical that someone who loves color so much would really be happy having a room with little color. I also think it would seem incongruent in your home, making it feel off-balanced. Of course, you could have wood-tone floors/cabinets or some other neutral but I'm guessing you'd be happier in a kitchen where at least the backsplash and other decor were able to be colorful. I wish I was more actual help. BTW, I love the fact that you have bright yellow/purple/chartreuse rooms. It's so fun!

Decorating your home is a very personal matter so I won't chime in on that. Just to point out a previous post by ddford135 concerning Lane sofa quality. This leather like material also know as "bonded leather" is very poplar, because it looks so much like leather, feels soft and comfortable and easy to clean. And very inexpensive. The problem is it doesn't last very long, just depending on how its used and cared for. If you still want to keep the sectional, just wait a few years and have it recovered in a better material that will last and pick out yourself from a larger selection than what the manufactured only offered. Hopefully the frame and springs will be high enough of a quality to be worth reupholstering.

The main difference between McCreary Modern and Lee Industries is that Lee is 8-way hand tied suspension which is more labor intensive and explains the higher cost. 8-way hand-tied is considered the gold standard for sofa suspensions and will typically hold up better than a sinuous spring or webbing suspension. I have been selling Lee Industries for years and have had many repeat customers who are so pleased with their previous Lee pieces they want to purchase again from them - they last for years! Lee does a good job of offering many high-quality, durable fabrics, but alas there are some that get in there that are less then ideal (this would be true for any sofa manufacturer). Make sure you buy from a retailer that knows their stuff so they can point you in the right direction of a fabric that is suitable for your lifestyle. The down cushions I do not recommend unless you want to fluff them daily. Whatever manufacturer you choose try to get an innerspring cushion wrapped in fiber or down - they hold up the best!

I like the sofa but it needs space.....consider emptying the room of anything on wall, table, or mantle so it is basiccally empty, and place items removed on dining room table for future reference. Put the sofa on any wall where it has room for end tables. Put the chair where it can have a conversation with the sofa. At this point I would redo the curtains to coordinate with the wall and do them in a linen type weave. Remove the crystal chandelier and replace with something simple and maybe oil rubbed bronze. Go shopping for a large piece picture in a simple or frameless style that blends with the plaid pillow; take the pillow with you if necessary. So far so good. If you have end tables and a cocktail table put them in the room only if you like them. If they are wood that should be fine. Send us a picture of the whole room taken from another room so we can see the size etc of the room. I am showing this inspiration room because it is very simple with very trad furniture, but the mantle is very low key and would work nicely in your living room style I think. Also note the colorful throw on the arm chair. This is same room, but wood tables and metal cocktail table, simple window treatments in tones found in living room, and antique armoire that is similar to your Moms tallish piece by fireplace. TV opposite sofa and easy chair for great viewing This looks great; metal table, magazine rack in oil rubbed bronze, brass Pharmacy lamp for reading. Would work next to Mom's chair......these items can be found on line at Ballard Design and other places too; overstock.com, wayfair.com with great prices and great selection. Plaid pillows, one bright color pillow and another item in room (the end table, but could be lamp, vase, picture) done in a bright color to match pillow in intensity. And the upholstered ottoman adds a fun touch, but sized to match the sofa. Again a rustic trad feel with a pair of large photos over sofa. Great ottoman, lamps, footstool. Pillows match colors in photos of family members.... These are just inspiration but it might help you select the items that the room needs to frame and support the sofa style and colors. Nothing set in stone but a place to begin.
