I would look at Lee Industries. They are well-made, mid-priced and if you choose a lower grade fabric, you can probably get a sofa for less than $2K which leaves you enough for 2 Club Chairs. I paid a little over $5k and got a Lee Industries sofa, loveseat and 2 chairs. If you do a search for Lee Industries on this forum, you will see that people are happy with it and that they have a good reputation - also, they are made in the US. I am very happy with my set.

I would look at Temple, Masterfield,and Friendship Upholstery.
These are eight way hand tied, hardwood frames and built and tailored as well as the best. They don't have as many choices as some of the higher end lines as far as fabrics, trims and cushion options. However, they have upgraded their choices in the past few years and if you can find the look you want you won't be disappointed in the quality.

decor64 - I'm going to be the devil's advocate here, and I'm sure most people will not agree, but here goes....we lost our house and everything we owned in Hurricane Katrina. Beautiful furniture and accessories that we had collected over 35 years of marriage. Finally, we are building a new home, but there's no way that we could afford to replace what we had, such as Henkel-Harris breakfront, armoires, secretary, etc. Costs have risen quite a bit since we purchased them in the 70's, and our insurance did not come close to making us whole, as they love to say. The only thing high-end that we have purchased is the house! After scouring numerous magazines, articles and websites, we have purchased stylish, but not the most high-end furnishings that will complement our house. Look at it this way, styles change, even classics, so if you haven't invested an arm and a leg into your sofa, and you tire of it, it's a lot easier to change, instead of feeling like you're married to it because it was so expensive. There are not that many high-end furniture places here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but I chose to purchase locally, because businesses suffered as much as residents here. Sorry to ramble. decor64, I think you and I are very much alike, I know too much about furniture construction and quality, having lurked on these forums for over a year, but can't afford the true high-end out there.

My husband and I bought a lovely leather sofa from a Mississippi company, Seat Company, in November last year. It took some time to adjust to the thought of buying something you've never sat in, but it turned out well for us.

I think they'd be in your price range for a sofa and two club chairs. I can't speak for their chairs, but the sofa we love. I don't quite know what style you're after, but others we looked at were Mitchell Gold and Restoration Hardware.

Thanks for your advice. I'm going to go to Crate and Barrel and look at Lee Industries (though my C & B sell mostly contemporary pieces and I want traditional). I've also found dealers for some of the other manufacturers mentioned though I haven't had time to look at them since they are more than an hour away. I'm in SE Michigan.

decor64, that's very thoughtful of you, thank you. There is light at the end of the tunnel - we should be closing on our new house by next week and then we will, hopefully, have a sense of normalcy again.

My heart goes out to the people in California. Watching those beautiful homes burn, one after another. Rich or poor, insurance or no, it is beyond heartbreaking to lose everything you own, and then the nightmare of dealing with insurance companies, etc.

I ended up buying our living room furniture (2 love seats, 2 accent chairs and ottomans, and bunching tables) at Bassett Furniture. The saleswomen were so professional and helpful in picking out fabrics. My husband and I are both 57 years old, empty nesters, so if it's not the top of the line, it really doesn't matter....we're too old to be jumping on furniture - ha.

Each September, Crate and Barrel has a sale -- I think 25% off-- on custom furniture. That includes any of their fabric OR any that you supply yourself. That's a good deal, I think. They have other sales during the year, but not on custom. So if you find a more traditional fabric that's suitable for upholstery, you might achieve the look you want. If you're like me, it may take until next September to reach a decision anyway!
