Who manufactures Macy's furniture?

A friend of mine is in a hurry to purchase bedroom furniture and is considering two sets he found at Macy's. One is the Tea Trade Collection, and the other is the Corniche Collection. He says when he asked who makes the sets he was told only that they are both "exclusive to Macy's" and that Donald Trump helped design the Corniche Collection. The saleslady could give him no further information.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea who the manufacturers might be, or any advice regarding purchasing furniture from Macy's. I've never dealt with them, and I'm worried my friend is making a poorly informed, hasty decision. Thanks for your help!

I am not sure who manufactures Macy's furntiture, but I suspect several companies do. They probably do have "exclusive to Macy's" lines. I can tell you that all of the furniture they sell if middle of the road, not the cheapest there is but not quality either, about what you would find in your "average" furniture store.
As for Donald Trump. He is dabbling in furniture design. I have three of his Office chairs, the Briarwood is the model, I like them quite a bit and got them all on clearance. I don't know that I would have liked them at full price.
If your friend goes with the Macy's items he will not be getting heirloom last a lifetime furniture, but he should be as well off as most furniture buyers out there.
If he is IN A HURRY he probably is not looking for long, long lasting furniture anyway.

Macy's furniture is average? Shock to me. Who has good furniture then that doesn't cause bankruptcy?

Thanks! Interesting that they keep the name "Baldwin" for different vendors (seems so many manufacturers play name games). I like Ballard and have bought case goods from them before, but I think I prefer the sectional. I will check Arhaus and see if they have it on the floor. I also started looking at a new sectional at Macys called "Cologne" by Jonathan Louis. The single advantage is that the arm ends are actually corners, giving more flexibility. I may get this for the Rec Room, which is suited to a contemporary style, and get the Baldwin for the family room (after we finish paying for the Rec Room!). BTW, after reading the forums, I go to the stores and find that I know more than the salespeople. These forums are a valuable resource for consumers.

Update - Thank you all so much for your great ideas. I never expected this kind of response and so appreciate it. We are till working on this...debating whether to try to repair the chair ourselves or raising hell in the ways you all suggested to have it all sent back. First things first...the salesperson who waited on me hasn't been back to work since the delivery. She will be in on Tuesday. She has been on vacation. The store manager has been in NY. The asst. manager won't make a move until the manager returns from NY. So...it's on hold until Tuesday for sure. I did file a complaint with the TX atty general's office. They are looking into it and have notified Macy's about the complaint. I;ve only been in TX a couple of years and was not aware of the TX Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Thanks a lot for that info. And, to clarify a few comments.Yes, I did buy from a real Macy's store that has a furniture department. It wasn't an outlet store. Yes, I did use my macy's card at the store when I purcahased the furniture. They do take credit cards here. I did not order it online. Of course, hindsight is everything, but by using my Macy's card I got a discount. So, I bit. I may call on you all to help in the ways you suggested before it's over with. I truly feel thankful for all the interest and suggestions...the members of this forum are the best...always so helpful and friendly. I would have never thought of half your suggestions. A 2 piece sectional under 5,000.00 if its in a heavy duty performance fabric? First you wont find any solid hardwood frames or 8-way hand tied coil springs with any of the 3 companies mentioned above. Down & Feathers is meant for a soft relaxed look and is high maintenance not something that will hold up over time. No Sag seat springs are fine for your budget and will hold up for as long as an 8-way hand tied coil springs. The problem is that if not engineered correctly they will break a plywood frame. So buy only if they warrantee the frame and springs for no less than 10 years. Also the type of seat cushions as for your budget I would stay away from a coil spring cushion as the surrounding structure will break down in this price range. A solid ultracell foam seat cushion in a 2.0 pound density or higher is the best cushion you will find in this budget range.

I wouldn't even call most of it average.

We bought a kitchen/dining set from them. While it is heavy, that's about all you can say for it. The finish scratches when you dust. The black paint has a weird haze on it and you can see Chinese red bleed through on the pedestal. One little knick and a whole chunk of wood came out on the side.

People used to spend more of their budget on good furniture. Now, with all the 'service' spending (cable, internet, cell phone, etc), there's not as much money left to throw around.

It's going to get worse. Shipping is going to go through the roof so those great Chinese "bargains" are going to get pricey, also.

Believe it or not, I'm not trying to attack another nation or trying to wave the flag here, it's just that most of what's coming over, isn't too hot. That includes most of the middle/high end retailers, too.

Many furniture manufacturers/importers sell to Macy's. Typically, Macy's will ask the company to make certain changes to an existing line to make it more "exclusive" to them.

As you might expect, the quality and pricing varies from supplier to supplier.

I was furniture shopping in Macy's a couple of weeks ago. The sales gal told me that most of Macy's case goods (non-upholstered furniture) comes from Asia, and most upholstered furniture is U.S. made.

Dont waste your time with Macys funiture. You pay a premium price thinking you get good quality and its not. I spent over five thousand dollars on a Marthe Stewart bedroom set and it it falling apart. Not from use or abuse, but the glue that holds the laminates together is failling and the top veneer of my dresser is actually peeling off. I called Macys and they told me i was out of luck. Never again!!!
