Comments (8)I'd be interested to know which tables you are considering. I love country french and just bought a table myself. We were looking at various manufacturers, also. Drexel-Heritage and Hickory-White were in the running. No kiddies for us though. I would caution against the Better Homes and Gardens set. We bought a cheaper set from Macys for our kitchen. You just look at it and it scratches. Unless you plan to replace it at a later date, I would stick to something of quality. With French Country and children, I would look for something as distressed as possible. Then a few nicks here and there won't be noticable. Drexel is a better price point than Century and Hickory White, but the other two are (or at least used to be) heirloom quality. My only familiarity with Artistica is in their metal pieces so I can't be of any help there. Let me know what you decide...I ended up going with "French Heritage" only because the Hickory White table I loved had no leaf....See MoreRestoration Hardware at a Discount??
Comments (56)Check-out RH Modern. This kinda makes me sick... The bed is Bob Williams, but in black-- you'll notice on the Bob Williams site that it's seriously marked down, so I think they are phasing it out for RH Modern. Soho Concept and Nuevo have pieces similar to the dining table, and the Milo Baughman chair looks like it is from Thayer Coggin, but in black leather. I think we should be trying to figure out these sources BEFORE they do their huge national launch of their new stores over the next 12 months. I know I've seen dining chairs similar, but can't seem to find them now. At least you guys have warning to start looking for similar products at the various trade markets. They are also hiring a TON of designers to have on hand. Halo, GJ, and Four Hands used to be the main wholesalers for Resto, but the guys at GJ were really unhappy at High Point Market when I asked them about it this past April. Something went down......See MoreOT?: local Ethan Allen *and* Stickley *both* closing
Comments (14)I too am amazed at how most of the better furniture stores have either radically changed or just gone away. Visited ( for the first time in years) the local Henredon, Drexel-Heritage store and was aghast at the huge, ugly furniture and accessories . Of course, there were exceptions, but OMG! Monster carvings, ornate tapestries, *gaudy silk with glittery baubles. The former Homestead House has a new(er) owner with same quality as HH, ONLY if one were to judge quality by the prices. Same hideous stuff as above. I walked out swooning. Seems can find little beauty outside of Baker, etc.showrooms. EA looks pretty nice, still, but we've all heard how their quality has gone waaay down. I don't mean to offend, but I see very few, or no examples of this gaudy stuff on any of the photos posted here, nor is it in any of the home mags, or decor books (such as C. Faudree sp.?)so many of us admire, so I feel safe here. So who ARE the people that drive this taste? And who has the humongous rooms for the giant sectionals, chairs with arms the size of large tree trunks, etc.? My home is over 4500 sq ft.with nice sized rooms, 10 ft. ceilings, and would not hold this stuff. I just don't get it! Oops! Did I just hijack this thread? I hope not :>/ It is a question that has been bugging me for sometime now, and seemed a good place to respond. Please forgive if I should have posted separately. *btw: not all silk and glitter is gaudy :>O...See MoreMade some LR decisions--but need input (pics!)
Comments (36)She thought the style was too boxy to pair with the drexel chair and that it didn't bring in enough of the french curves she knows I like. The more I think about the whole room, I think these are a better pairing for the rustic quasi-elegant look I am shooting for though. I wish I could see it in other fabrics/finishes.. I am having a hard time picturing it in something other than the striped cheetah (BTW Drexel Heritage has a great program to allow you to change the fabrics/finishes.. this is Hickory White though). I also wish I could sit in them.. they are not on the showroom floor. I do know that I want exposed wood on the fireplace chairs-- but other than that, I am all over the place still. More reason to wait on that decision. I am also thinking that I could use the Drexel chair elsewhere-- dining room or bedroom-- but the new CL chair will likely go to one of those spots (or my office)....See MoreLarry Wasson
