Luxury vinyl plank flooring

I have been looking at flooring for quite awhile.
I have been looking at the laminate wood lines mostly, have ruled out hardwd and engineered woods because of maintenance and cost.
Recently came across "luxury vinyl planks" that actually surprised me. After a bit of internet surfing, discovered that there are many mfgs. Armstrong, Mannington, Dupont, etc.
Found 2 more that look really good; Reward Toasted Oak and MetroFlor Engage Seal Rock Hickory.

Does anyone have any pics or any experience w/vinyl flooring planks? Would love if you could share.

Or do a search in the forum for Novalis peel and stick. Hope that helps.

I did use peel and stick in my bathroom and I love it. Just make sure you fit it very tight together (otherwise there could be contraction gaps) with 1/4 in away from the wall, for expansion.

I preface this reply by saying that it may step on some toes and is not for the easily offended... Think of your floor cleaning like your teeth cleaning: you can brush, floss, and gargle on your own to your heart's delight. But at the end of the day, it can't replicate the cleaning performed by a hygienist in the dentist office. In other words, you need to have a professional cleaning company periodically clean your vinyl floors. I know, most of you DYIers had it installed to get away from carpet, tile, and other flooring that has traditionally required professionals to maintain. Truth is, you DO NOT own the equipment needed to get these floors, particularly the ones with a textured profile, completely clean like they were prior to install. And while the flooring companies didn't outright lie to you (calling it low maintenance rather than no maintenance), they certainly led you astray by letting you to believe that a little hot water or their overpriced, product-specific cleaner was all you needed. So, find a reputable local cleaner to professionally clean your LVP floors. Got kids and dogs? Do you go barefoot or wear outdoor shoes in the house? Get your floors professionally cleaned every single year. The rest of you? Every 2-3 years. In the meantime, stop using steam. Stop using acidic (vinegar) and high ph (ammonia) products. Dump the bleach, Murphy's Oil Soap, Rejuvenate, Bona, Mop n Glow, Orange Glo, and all types of polishes. Only use a neutral cleaner in between professional cleanings. Oh, and those area rugs you put down to cover up the unsightliness of your floors? They're likely voiding your flooring warranty (probably not a big deal because many have already done so with their unapproved cleaning methods and lifestyle).

The floor likely has a 'wear layer' of UV cured very hard aluminum oxide clear from 12 to 20+mil thick. You will need to sand the finish to get the next coat to adhere. That coat(s) would be a primer. And then multiple coats of a topcoat. I'd guess at a roller applied boat paint. It's meant for this type of application. Kinda self-leveling. You must use products by the same manufacturer. And follow the recommended procedures. Perfection Pro topside paint by Interlux. A lot of work and the products are expensive. . . .It will not be as durable as the original finish because it will not be as thick. . . .So you may want to pull up the flooring and replace it with a rigid vinyl plank that you like the look of.

I have used LVP flooring in my basement. I had to replace old carpet. I don't think you want to find a brand as much as you want to make sure that the product is good. I made sure I got one with a good backing and that helped with the feel on your bare feet and noise. I have found that vinyl flooring is very slippery for dogs. Too slippery for a larger dog. If you have a lab he won't walk well on that type of flooring. My daughter had to lay rugs all over an apartment she rented for her dog. The dog was afraid of that flooring there. The vinyl flooring can not be repaired, only replaced. I have both hard wood and now this LVF and any day of the week I would go with hard wood. The hard wood is the best. You can get the wood sanded and resealed if needed. My reason for using the vinyl in the basement area is the waterproof factor. It is great for the basement. I am not sure you will like it after seeing the difference between the hard wood and the vinyl on your main living areas. 'Why don't you extend that hard wood and have the scratch repaired. I bet you will be happier than mixing the vinyl and wood. sorry..

Yes, we chose vinyl plank for our townhouse last year, to replace carpet. I installed it myself as a first time flooring project, it was very easy to install and I have been told it looks pro. It cost 80 cents/sq ft (Lowes Surface Source, I think we got it on close-out as it's no longer available).

We are very happy with the floors, they look good - better than most laminate - and there is no noise such as squeaks or crackles. They clean so easily! At first we were careful but now we drag out furniture across the floor etc and have no scratches or marks. I did test various sample planks and chose this one partly due to it's especially durable nature. It's almost a year old now and looks the same as when installed. It is firmly in place not one issue with coming up, gaps or anything. I did follow instructions for installation to leave space under baseboards for expansion an installed in hot weather (it was 80 in May in CA). I put the planks in tight since it was about as hot as the house was going to get, and I don't see gaps now in the winter.

It went over old plywood subfloors upstairs and concrete slab ground level. I sealed the concrete with drylok before putting the floors in.
