leather sofa with fabric chair

we have a very dark brown leather sofa with rolled arms. I am looking at getting a rich red fabric loveseat and a geometric pattern with reds and other colors for the chair. The arms of the new pieces are more contemporay and straight. Is this going to look goofy together? I thought it would be great but am now having second thoughts. HELP

We have a tan leather sectional with rolled arms. When we bought it we also bought a fabric multi colored chair which is rusts/browns/reds/tans. So the colors definitely complement each other. When I asked the salesperson if both would go together, she pointed out yes because of the colors (obvious) and they both had the rolled arms (which I never noticed on the chair) and the same feet (but in different wood tones). Had the chair not had the rolled arms, I still probably would have bought it since they go so well together and we needed the additional seat.

I think you should get what you want but I would look at magazines to see if you see the same kind of look (style) that you would have and see how they mesh.

Thanks for the input. Of course, my husband wasn't too crazy about the chairs. He thinks we need a recliner and really liked a mission style one we looked at, which is ok, but not what I was going for.

Carolina Chair is a fine company, but I was not aware they made sofas that size. I hope that you have carefully measured your doorways, halls, stairs and anywhere else that the delivery people are going to have to pass to place your sofa. This is going to be a very expensive custom built sofa from whomever you use, and they are not going to refund your money if you can't get it through your doorway. I do know a very good custom upholsterer in Sophia, NC who can build a sofa for you to your specifications He can even build it with removable arms and backs if that is needed. How old are your kids? The reason I am asking is that their age and size may influence your furniture decisions. I am also confused. Is the pix you are showing of the family room now? Is that where the tv watching will happen? If so, I am not sure what buying a new leather couch and two chairs does for the seating capacity, since that is what you have now? Have you considered a sectional? Your wallpaper and window treatments are formal, so I am guessing if you go with chairs, you want them to have a similar feel. I think I would look for a pair of upholstered chairs with matching ottoman some kind of pattern that picks up the colors in the window treatments and border. Perhaps a stripe or tweedy fabric with the jewel tones in them, and I would concentrate on a rich green as a predominant color in the fabric.

Yes, it certainly CAN work. The throw that you have over the back of the leather sofa unites the two colors. Maybe try to find pillows that have both the leather sofa and the gray(?) sofa colors in them. Some pics shown HERE. Note the two prints that you have above the gray sofa - Here are more prints, but of stormy beach scenes. Look for fabrics/pillows in those tones. (If you can lower those prints to about 8" above the sofa, they'll look much better.) Stormy ocean prints

When you say "chose"do you mean you own it or still thinking? I think leather will be hot and blue fades so easily. I'd do an indoor out door sofa and chair, in a performance fabric like Crypton or Sunbrella.
