Anyone have 'Do It Best' hardwood flooring?

At our local True Value store, I found some very nice prefinished red oak flooring made by Do It Best. The price at the store is $3.89/sq. ft. and I can get it online, shipped to the store, for $3.75/ft. We are looking at the 3 1/4 in. Galveston Oak.

We are planning to install ourselves, so this is a hardwood we can fit in our budget, finally! Is it too good to be true? Anyone out there have this floor?

I would go with the snap lock wood laminate flooring. It is a little more work but doable for a woman or guy! The good thing is that it will last much longer and actually add value to the home. ciciliotandson

Wait, that goes against everything I've heard. I was under the impression that hardwood flooring will last longer than any laminate (yes, it may need to be refinished.) Also, that hardwood will add more value than a laminate floor.

And a laminate floor that is more difficult to install than a solid hardwood? Am I wrong in thinking the reverse? Please enlighten me!

Anyone install hardwood to match existing hardwood?

Of course the easiest way to do what you want to do is to install a different width in the kitchen and use something to act as a transition between the two floors. If the kitchen section will be at the same finished height and you can and want to weave new into the old, then you will have to have oak milled to your 2 1/2" size. Not impossible, but will cost more than factory runs at the usual widths. I don't have pics for you, so I hope someone does and can post them for you.

Chinchette, thank you for your input. I sure hope my floors become more red. I really was in love with the Mirage samples but their price was more than the BR-111 so I went with the company that I though was good but more in my budget. I am trying to choose a painter and then I will install the floors and take pictures.

If you like the wood go with that. At least you can repair your hardwood and you most likely won't be able to get replacement laminate should it need more laminate to repair in the future.

alicia, personally I would recommend that you do the hardwood and avoid a laminate. That oak sounds like a great deal! Please post some pictures of your project when you finish it.
