Southern Furniture Co. or Southern Style Fine Furniture quality?

Is anyone here familiar with a manufacturer called "Southern Furniture Co." based in Conover, NC?

I saw a few of their sofas at the Southern Style Fine Furniture store at the Hickory Furniture Mart. I'm thinking of buying one from there or ordering one from a dealer, but can't find anything about the brand or quality online. They have a website, but not a lot of pics/info and most of the dealers near me don't carry their products anymore.

They seemed comfortable and well-made. Serpentine instead of 8-way springs, but the arms didn't give, they are pretty heavy, and the cushions don't sink in the middle/pop up at the ends like I found with comparable sofas from Mitchell Gold (the brand I was originally looking at).

Any advice about this brand is appreciated!

Did you ever buy the Southern Furniture sofa you considered? I, too, have found a sofa from them that I am interested in purchasing, however, I have had no luck finding reviews of their products. If you did purchase the sofa, would you mind giving me your thoughts on the quality? Thank you so much!

Southern Furniture is a well established company that has been in business since the 30'or 40's and I think it is owned by the Bolick family. They make a well priced good product in the mid price range. Many of their employees have been their forever. The owners are nice people. I think they supply a lot of product to Overstock.

We recently spent almost $30K in Ethan Allen, Pasadena on a dining set and two sofas for our new condo. To make a long story short, the dining tabletop had significant flaws, blemishes, chipped corners and holes filled with putty. Don’t fool yourself with in-store samples. Once they have your money, you are stuck with what you get and no one takes responsibility for what has been delivered to your home. The accent pillows that came with the sofas did not match our selected material and did not include the surrounding fringes. Tiffany, the sales lady evidently had not placed the correct order according to our selected material. Despite sending pictures of our selected material to Greg the manager as well as Tiffany, both of them still refuse to take any responsibility and accept their mistake. After spending some $30 K in this store, they refuse to even replace $200 worth of pillows due to their own mistake. When you are in Ethan Allen, you think you’re dealing with a reputable company until the furniture is delivered. If you’re in the market for anything with after-purchase services and warranty, you’ll be better off avoiding Ethan Allen. Their sales tactics are just like entering car dealerships. Never again will I or anyone in my extended family shop at Ethan Allen. Don’t give them any of your hard-earned money. Horrible service, no accountability and their prices are very expensive. They deserve numerous negative stars, if any star at all.

Panel beds are an option. We like the lower footboard in this style. Pottery Barn's Hudson is nice: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/hudson-bed/?pkey=cwood-beds-headboards Durham makes nice options but I have no idea on pricing. The Lorraine is nice: http://www.durhamfurniture.com/collections.php?category_id=1010 Kincaid seems to make quite a few queen size beds, but fewer kings. Hmm. What I can remember (so take this with a grain of salt as it's been eight years) is that our simple set (table and chairs), inc. delivery and set-up (they assembled the table -- I tried to get out of that because I knew we could assemble it ourselves but they just said it's a provided service) and tax, was ~$800. From the local outdoor furniture / christmas showroom place a comparable Brown Jordan set, inc. all the above, was a little over $2,000. I still start to choke remembering it! That $800 felt like a stretch to us then, so can you imagine how the $2,000 felt? Yikes. I still love that set. Yes, it looks exactly the same, but what is still my favorite feature is how comfortable the chairs are. The edge of the seats, where it would hit the back of your thighs, is rounded down, so no edges (sharp or dull) ever catch you. I also like that I don't have to have cushions -- I do have some throw pillows I put on the chairs when I remember (which means the throw pillows are almost indoors). Obviously everyone's priorities are different, but for what our priorities were / remain, our RH set met every one. I'll be interested in hearing the price breakdown -- so far this year, RH has been v. loose with their promos -- are you planning on taking advantage of one? That can make a difference! There was someone on the Kitchens forum who used the $100 back for every $400 spent: she had something like $800 of purchases to make, so she split them into two purchases and was really excited about it. (I don't blame her.) Just a thought ....

Look at Room and Board as well, for wood furniture. And check Mitchell Gold: http://www.mgbwhome.com Yes, a designer will open the doors to many more options. They do not necessarily mark prices up; they get a discount and will charge you retail. I went this route when I bought my apartment 12 years ago. You will get access to the designer-only showrooms if you live near those (D&D Building in New York, etc).

Just had a sofa delivered to my client from Southern Furniture Co. It's not Baker, but mid priced & delivery was very quick. They seem to produce a product that is no longer sold in the big box furniture stores, ....classic styles with attention to details at a reasonable price.

I'm not looking for seating that will last 30 years for clients, because the fabric will wear out long before that, and no one wants to pay the high cost to have something recovered.

I did see that Southern Furniture is sold at a small story
near us. My chair has pink roses all over it here's a picture. I have my
grandma's quilt on it and cover for the foot stool.

If you have the chance to buy one of their pieces, you should! I bought a sofa and loveseat at Macy's in 2002 made by Southern (for $1400 on clearance!!). It has lasted thru two little kids and all their friends as the primary family room set, two standard poodles, and two cats. Not only do we still have the set, the seat cushions are still completely puffy! We regularly remove the covers on the cushions and wash them (they are chenille) and they don't shrink, fade, and have just now developed a slight hole along a back seam.

While the set looks somewhat dated and I'd like to replace them, I just can't get past having to pay $4000 for a comparable set that will probably only hold up for two or three years. Ours are still insanely comfortable and a quality I haven't seen in modern furniture stores (Lee, Rowe, Restoration Hardware, etc).

Southern still makes the sofa set I have, only now it is upholstered in linen. My husband just said to buy from them again or have someone slipcover it in a heavy linen. I wish I could find a dealer by me in Florida! And trust me, I've tried.

Ohh. That sucks!! I have a sofa and love seat that I bought from Haverty's approx. 25 yrs ago. It is a very well made sofa!!!. I think I paid about $2100 ro $2500 for the both. It's been reupholstered once, and the genteman said it is a very well made sofa and it's heavy, yet luxurious looking. I mean when you attemp to lift it from the side, it does not sway. I'm about to recover it again. I have no kids and for the last 17 years it has gotten very little wear due to the location it was placed and because of my poor selection of fabrice the last time.
