I always thought that those machines method of operation was self-explanatory! first, ya start the engine. second, place the blade outside the edge of the sidewalk, or where you want to edge. third: Push the edger along, trying to not touch the concrete. fourth: At end of sidewalk, pick machine up out of the slot you cut, then do the other side. After you have it all edged, turn the machine off, and store away until next time! fifth: If you intend to try to edge a round flower bed, i'd think a spade would be less troublesome. But, you can try it! sixth: watch yer feet and toes! Don't want to edge them, too!

Thanks for the replies. I agree it would be really silly to build the chimney if you couldn't burn wood. Apparently, the last people who lived here never used the fireplace (according to the neighbors). They did leave behind a cord of wood though. It seems they thought you couldn't use wood either. I thought about leaving the ceramic logsjust to make it easier to switch between ambient fire (gas) and heat producing flame (wood). Now that you mention it, it would look strange. I think Xanndra hit the nail of the head. I did a Google for gas starters and they look nothing like to large tray type set up we have. I guess we'll have the chimney folks out to give us an esitmate on a good cleaning and retrofit. Thanks again. BTW, I got in a flurry since the furnance went out and we have to wait a couple of days for a repairman. It's not below freezing just yet, but the kids and dog aren't at all happy. The gas fire does nothing but send hot, expensive air up the chimney. We were looking forward to an actual warm fire.

Find a gas fitter who installs fireplaces and have them uninstall and re-install the fireplace properly.

OK, so I looked through the installation manual for your fireplace and the mistake that has been made is the black metal (access panel) should have been covered with drywall. Drywall can cover all of the black metal on the bottom and sides of this fireplace. The top must be covered with a non combustible material, which apparently is supplied with the unit. Did you install this yourself? Anyways, cut a piece of drywall and cover up that access panel as long as all of the wiring has been done. You can always access the junction box from above by removing the logs and burner. This is mentioned in the installation manual. Hope this helps.
