Need advice on taking a bus to Boston from NYC

I am reading reviews of the Chinese bus lines and can't really get a handle on which of the bus lines I should take. For every good review of a bus co., there is also a bad review. Can anyone who has traveled to Boston from NYC via a bus offer me any advice or info that would help me make a decision on which bus line to use?

I haven't taken them, but I hear that Megabus and Boltbus are nicer than the Lucky Star and Fung Wah buses.

Have you considered taking the train? It might get you there faster and would be a bit more comfortable.

I'd go with Camlan's suggestion about taking the train. We've done it several times. The last time we even took Amtrack Metroliner first class from Boston to Philly and my DH found it more enjoyable then flying. He hates the hassle at the airport and the crowded flights and loved being able to get up and walk around on the train. Plus it was roomier.

can put a gas range in, but gas freaks me out. Any opinions on that? You could wait until just before you sign w/ a tenant, and get that they want,if you like them. My sis had a landlord who, when her stove started to fade, sent her to look at stoves. He gave her a very rough ballpark in terms of money, and said, "go see what you like." She came back w/ a list of 3 she liked in different spots in the price range; he bought the most expensive one and paid for it to be installed by the store. His reasoning: she was a good tenant, and she'd STAY a good tenant if she felt well-taken-care-of. And he was right--they make extra sure to take care of the property. (the *clothes* may have been all over the floor most of the time, but the carpet got vacuumed twice a week, the bathroom deep-cleaned weekly, etc.)

Sandlll, Okay I am going to sound mean. STOP! Stop putting pressure on yourself. No rushing. Don't settle. Be good to you. (I think I sound like my mother, forgive me) Hold off and get what you want. You may be able to find the appliances you want a little cheaper. Don't settle for the electrolux when this is not what you want. If you are not sure, find out first. Don't let anyone rush you. If you have to eat off the floor or get take out for another month this is far better than making a mistake. And the weather is perfect in Boston a little hot but beautiful to take a stroll to legal seafood or the north end. You can get take out until your kitchen is ready. It is going to come together but don't be rushed. You may feel like you are down to the wire but the truth is if you HAVE to stop everything and wait they will need to wait. They will try to tell you they have to bump up the price. In this economy this is a lie. Do not let them pressure you. THis is your kitchen. Your KD, GC or cabinet guy is going to have to be patient and helpful not trying to make a sale. You are at the control and if you want to take your own sweet time to figure out which kind of a range or which kind of an oven you do this. (Please forgive me if I am sounding mean here, I am trying to be supportive and encouraging) ~boxerpups

ALOHA RDogg.. Welcome to the joys of gardening in the city... I assume you are saying 3 to 4 hours of sun... bot blessed with 3/4 hours or 45 minutes of sun .. Can yo u build the greenhouse off the window or door of your apartment... you can keep the door open to provide some heat... but perhaps a heater should be factored in a greenhousewwould free up the inside space... and provide more light than inside aganst a window..with supplemental light... I grow alot of Z 9 plants... plenty of plumeria... and brugmancias... by the score... inside is lovely all planted out ... but other family members often have a diffrent otlook.. don't look to us first... but your living mates.. Will you want to dismantle the greenhouse next summer... but get started right away... fall has a way of comming faster than you imagine.. Gordon

NYC Apt Renovation - Need Advice on Appliances

We built a house and bought a Maui condo in 2001 -- new appliances for each. I just replaced a GE sXs in the condo with the same. It was fine, but I was worried it would fail, and I would wait six weeks for another to get to Maui. Two slim doors are real space-savers. I dislike the flapping French door fridges; you are mostly opening both doors. The condo doesn't have space to pull out a bottom freezer anyway. (Dishwasher is opposite -- also GE.) I've had three or four GE sXs fridges w/water in the door for over 40 years without any problems. Our 42" GE Monogram sXs works perfectly. At our home, I've just replaced my Fisher & Paykel dishdrawers with same. Quiet, convenient, water and energy-savers. My bottom-of-the-line Frigidaire front load washer and dryer are working fine. A house-sitter overloaded the first washer. I replaced it with same. I could replace again and be money ahead over having started with a Samsung or other widely advertised washer, with 'features' I don't use. I do not plan to 'build in' any more appliances. Appliances fail, and the new models will have different styles or dimensions.

I often take the Vamoose bus from downtown Bethesda to NYC. I meet a friend who takes the Vamoose bus from Boston to NYC. We go to a show, or an exhibit, spend the night, and go our separate ways the following evening. I highly recommend Vamoose. It's comfortable, dependable, and fast. And much cheaper than the train! I convinced my husband to try it in March. He was very dubious, but is now a convert. My bus had WiFi, and many business people. Try it!

I loved my train ride from Baltimore to NYC. Roomy, comfortable and scenic.

The bus trip costs $13, Amtrak Acela costs $95. Big difference, especially if you plan to do it regularly.

I've taken the Megabus between Detroit/Ann Arbor and Chicago, and so has my mother. There is only one stop en route, as compared to several stops when you take the train. This bus is the absolute fastest way for me to get to the city center -- faster than flying and faster than the train by at least 2 hours. The Megabus stops right near Union Station in Chicago and picks up near universities in Michigan. The bus is clean, comfortable and safe, but depending on where you board there's no shelter and/or no parking. And there's no ticket booth. Last time I took it they still had a system in place where the earlier you reserved/the emptier the bus the cheaper the seat. I got home for about $1
