Mantels for Fireplace Xtrordinair 44 Elite?

We're building a new home and will have a Fireplace Xtrordinair 44 Elite wood-burning fireplace. The biggest challenge seems to be finding a traditional-style mantel with side columns (other than Grand Mantel) that's acceptable for use with this fireplace. The clearance requirements in the installation manual seem so extreme that none of the other brands (J.C. Huffman, Pearl, etc.) appear acceptable. The toughest requirement is, "Mantel side columns that protrude more than 3/4" must maintain an 18 inch clearance from the faceplate." Basically that drives you to a mantel that's about 8 feet long if you want side columns, and we don't have that kind of room. Even the stone mantels won't work because they exceed the tolerances. Has anyone else had luck finding a mantel (other than Grand Mantel) that works with this fireplace? (And does anyone know what it is that enables Grand Mantel to be certified, since they don't appear to meet the dimension requirements?) Thanks!
