Here is the information related to this product at the current moment 5/17/2014 some 6 years later. The stove top still performs well. I now think an open burner model is the way to go if you are serious about your meals as home-cooked. This oven's power is above average but not hot enough for me. Cleaning is pretty easy however you are gonna scratch the metal when you do so. The burner elements need the holes cleaned out from time to time but the igniters have never had a problem. The knobs are now denuded of markings. After replacing them once I scratched in the temp settings on the oven temp selector. I did this because I mistakenly chose 300 instead of 500 once; this was because the lettering had disappeared. I ruined 4 hours of work as the preheating wasn't the level required. The oven is the biggest disappointment. 1) the broiler stopped working and was not repairable by the serviceman sent out at AR's suggestion. I have not had a working broiler for over 5 years. 2) oven temperatures affect the knob temperature with the knobs so hot you cannot touch them. 3) the oven door has never opened well a. the door slams to the floor and will hurt your foot if it lands on it b. the door gets really really hot and if you mistakenly grab the door rather than the handle you will burn yourself. 4) the grates are very hard to slide and will not come towards you unless you pull really hard. 5) the window is so obscure you cannot see inside 6) and this is the worst; the oven has slowly gone downhill. I currently cannot heat above 300 degrees a. the flame sputters b. uneven heating even with the convection oven loaves must be manually turned c. poor venting with combusted air remaining in the oven zone. Thus if you open the door you cannot breath. So after 6 years my 4500 dollar oven is 'toast'. I will try to repair the oven burner so I can bake. Needless to say I will not own another American Range.

Not the OP but I'm still on here and a lot of water has gone under the bridge. I had the Wolf DF for about 4.5 years and the cobalt blue enamel came off of the bottom after running the self clean. This has been an issue, if you look at the lawsuits on these ranges built as far back as 2006. Quite a few posters had issues of chipping with as many a three ovens in a row. The all gas versions do not seem to have the issue (no blue interior) although they are mentioned in at least one lawsuit. I like Dacor platforms that were bigger too but the ovens I had were worthless. Mine were with the Discovery controllers at the time, different from some of the other ovens. They have since been bought by Samsung and been through model changes through the years. I though maybe they fixed them but there was recently a poster here that bought a wall oven and returned it quickly because they had issues with it. What type of cooking do you do? The Ilve has a few things that might cause concern for some people. The burners are all underpowered for what most people want now. Ranges like BlueStar and Capital have 22-25K on at least two burners. The Wolf all gas also tops out at 15K and you may have had 15 or 16K on your Dacor range So maybe that works for you. I have 15K on my Wolf DF and it is OK but it is on all burners except one. Many people complain that a griddle with 15K is underpowered so 10.5K would be even less. They also mention that the griddle is stainless so it will not season like rolled steel on Wolf. Stainless by itself is one of the poorest conductors of heat so would heat unevenly unless it has aluminum or copper sandwiched in. The French top is also only 8.5K BTUs compared to 18K on something like BlueStar. Also check out the oven size. Look at the usable rack size. A lot of space is taken up by the warming drawer. Look at the broiler size. This is the manual. We had our 30" American Range installed yesterday. I thought I'd post about our experience so far in case it may help someone else. I really appreciated being able to read through everyone's posts as we worked through making our decision. We did the oven burnoff last night. It sure put out a lot of fumes. I'm wondering if our hood is working the way it should be. Didn't seem like it. I had the hood going full blast, two windows open, and a fan blowing. What experience did others have during the burn off? I read through all of the threads on this range on this forum and was nervous about this purchase due to the issues with the gas smell from the oven and hot knobs , but we really wanted this range. It met our requirements better than anything else we looked at and was less expensive than a lot of the other pro style ranges. We just couldn't find anything else that we liked. We seriously considered Bertazzoni, but we didn't like the burner configuration, and I didn't think I'd be happy with the oven performance. I called American Range before we made our purchase to query them regarding the issues owners had posted on this site. I was told that the gas problem in the oven was caused by bad valves and that they had remedied the problem and none of the current units should have the issue. They told me they hadn't heard about the problems of the hot knobs. Our appliance store hadn't received any feedback on it either, and they sell a lot of these ranges. Here is what we found while doing the burn in. No gas smell issue, other than the first minute or two the oven was on, which is apparently normal. The sides of the oven got very hot and the cabinets next to the range were warm, but not hot. Hopefully this won't cause any damage to our brand new cabinets over time. The oven door got warm/hot. The door handle stayed cool. The shield that hangs out below the knobs got hot enough to burn skin if it was touched for more than a few seconds. The knobs got warm when we ran the oven, and were hot when the broiler was going. They weren't so hot that I couldn't use them to turn on the burners, but it was uncomfortable if I left my hands on them for very long. The longer the broiler was on the worse it got. The bullnose got pretty darn warm too after the 2 hours of running the oven and 20 minutes running the broiler. I wasn't about to touch the oven vent. We put in the 4" riser vent. We did this because we put in engineered quartz counters and used it as our back splash. I had concerns about the heat venting straight up out of the standard vent onto the splash and possibly damaging the quartz over time. With the 4" riser the hot/warm air vents out the front and the wall stays cool. The air coming out of the vent was quite warm, particularly when the broiler was on. My husband and I are vegetarians so I don't expect we'll use the broiler very much. I purchased a mercury oven thermometer and when set at 450 degrees the oven temp was dead on. I'll be checking lower temperatures over the coming week as I do some baking. So far we love the burners. We have a pressure cooker and the simmer on the small burner didn't go quite low enough for the pressure cooker when setting it the normal way. My husband ended up turning the knob back to the right past the light position to get it low enough. I'd read that suggestion on this forum somewhere. Hopefully there aren't any issues with doing that. I don't know if I'd put one of these ranges in a home with small children or pets that might hang around the range due to the external heat issues. We don't have kids, dogs or cats, so it's not an issue for us. We do have a bird, but she doesn't wander around the range. We locked her up in a room upstairs while we ran the oven last night. I am a little disconcerted about the external heat build up issues, but hopefully the function of the range will make it worth dealing with it. I may call American Range next week to see if they think all of it is normal. Since others have experienced it, it seems like it may be normal for these ranges. Although they did deny the hot knob problem when I asked about it before. That's it for now. If anything else comes up or I learn anything new if I call American Range, I'll post again. Thanks again to others for sharing their experiences on this forum. It was a huge help.

Here's what I made: Fettucini with Lemon and Cream - Cook's Illustrated's variation on their Alfredo, basically just adding some lemon juice and zest to the mix. It was wonderful; it's been quite some time since I made homemade pasta and I forgot how easy and worth it it is. I also topped it with grilled chicken and shrimp for good measure. The lemon squares that Canarybird posted. As promised these were very sweet and heavy - and delicious. I did make what I think was a critical mistake though; my only 9x9 was a pyrex dish, so the crust never really cooked right and was soggy and dripping with butter even after 30 minutes in the oven. So once cooled, I cut the squares and let them soak into some paper towels, and those of course stuck. So overall a less than perfect presentation, but we enjoyed them no less. Thanks Sharon! Time permitting I'll gladly try a new menu on Saturday. Lemon Risotto 6 cups vegetable stock 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 medium onion, minced 1 1/2 cups Arborio rice 1/2 cup dry white wine 1 teaspoon grated zest and 2 tablespoons juice from 1 large lemon 6 large fresh sage leaves, minced 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley leaves 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, plus more for the table salt and freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional) 1. Bring the stock to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Keep it warm over low heat. 2. Heat the oil and 2 tablespoons of the butter in a heavy-bottomed medium pot. Add the onion and sauté over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, stir in the rice and cook for 1 minute. LECHE ASADA or Roasted Milk, a Canary Island recipe, tasted more like sweetened scrambled egg to me, although my DH thought it was quite alright. I would suggest it as an ideal dish for someone who has teeth or stomach problems and needs a bland, soft, custardy egg dish. It won't be making it to my try-again list! Here it is though: LECHE ASADA - Milk and egg pudding Ingredients 1/2 liter milk (1/2 quart approx) 4 eggs 3 TBS sugar salt 1/2 teasp lemon zest - grated rind of 1 medium lemon 1 teasp cinnamon 1. Preheat oven to 350F 2. Beat eggs, add milk, lemon rind, cinnamon, sugar and salt. 3. I made the Lemon Risotto, plus I picked some beets and the greens from my garden and made a roasted beet and carrot salad to top the cooked greens. I was planning on making a beet salad and the beet greens, but there weren't enough beets for 5 people, so I added the carrots and just topped the greens with the salad. I also broiled some tofu I marinated in some lemon zest, lemon juice, olive oil, soy sauce and some herbs. My daughter and I made a couple of loaves of ciabatta to go with the meal, plus we made some World Peace Cookies for desert. We all had a great time. Early on, I took some pictures of my freshly gathered beets, but my battery went dead. So, I put it in the charger, planning on having the camera ready for supper when the Risotto and everything was ready and dinner was served and I could take some pictures. Well, the best laid plans....... we were half way through dinner when I remembered about taking pictures. Sorry guys, I'm just not good at the picture thing. The lemon risotto was really good, not that hard to make and it was really lemony. I liked the fact it was not too fattening. I didn't use any butter, just oil, and just the amount of cheese specified without extra for the table. I will make it again. Lemon Lover's Cookie is made entirely in the food processor, so it's super easy. I first made these in August 2004, to try out my new convection oven, and they were an instant hit, light and delicate. Keeping an extra cookie roll in the fridge or freezer is nice to have on hand. I recently visited some friends in New Mexico and took them a bag, along with a few for ourselves. They cookies keep beautifully, and still tasted fresh after 10 days on the road. I like a lot of lemon flavor, so I punch it up by adding the zest of two lemons, which I didn't include in the recipe. Lemon Lovers Cookies A delicate cookie, from The Lemon Lovers Cookbook. Plan ahead, as you have to leave the dough in the refrigerator for several hours before baking. 1 large lemon, zest of 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup butter, chilled and cut into pieces (2 sticks) 2 1/3 cups cake flour, sifted 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt Process the lemon zest and sugar in a food processor until the zest is as fine as the sugar. Add the butter. Process until fluffy. Scrape down the bowl. Add the flour, baking soda and salt. Process briefly until mixed. Form dough into two 1-1/2-inch-round logs and wrap each in wax paper. Refrigerate until firm. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Slice each log into 1/4-inch thick cookies and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden around the edges. I'll have to add those to my list to try. Just a little addendum on the lemon risotto - the recipe I use calls for butter, and optional cream, although I don't use the cream. It also allows for additional parm at the table if you choose to. The way Theresa made it sounds intriguing, since she cut out the butter. I like the idea of making it a little bit healthier and it still tasting good.
