dining room buffet as a TV console?

I was thinking of putting a 42" plasma TV on top of a traditional dining room buffet (Mahogany?) or wall mounting it just above a buffet. I'd put the stereo receiver inside the buffet, if it had 2 doors in the center and drill holes in the back for the wires. I know I'd have to leave the doors open for the remote to work or put the cable box outside the buffet. The AV receiver & components would need about 18" of depth. I'd like to stick the TV on top of a piece of furniture instead of putting it into a large entertainment center.

Anyone try this before?
