I put in a link for a company that makes high-end furntiure pieces. Some of the pieces look like a buffet type piece, but on their pieces, the television is hidden and raises up for watching. Long story short, I think your buffet idea will work just fine.

Hi, I recently did this. I used a Guy Chaddock sideboard to house all of the components. We then hung a 55" plasma on the wall above it. We have a powerful universal remote that works with the doors closed to the sideboard. I worked with the stereo guys to customize the piece -- meaning I had to get the dimension of each piece of tv/AV equipment that was going into the sideboard to make certain there was enough room. Also, many of the tv/AV components generate heat, so we had to be certain that there was enough room for ventilation. Finally, they had to drill holes in the back of the sideboard for all of the wires. It looks really good and you would never know we had so much equipment in there. We also have 4 drawers in the sideboard which is great for housing dvd's, etc. Good luck!

A buffet would work great. I am using a sofa table for my equipment and flat panel. Looks great in the room, less expensive and much nicer than what is offered for electronic/TV units. It was so good to get rid of the huge entertainment center and amazing how much room was given back.

I removed the back to allow air circulation. Just make sure your buffet is deep enough and openings sufficient to hold equipment....and all of the above suggestions.
