Sofa and fabric selections- vintage looking?
Comments (21)I too have heard wonderful things about Flexsteel quality, but- I am not sure if it is still the way it was. Melly says hers is older, which reinforces my questioning on this. Not trying to be too much of a skeptic but I was in the market for family room furniture and su:rfed the web tirelessly- and found all sorts of conflicting opinions.......... I have had Broyhill which I know is a very moderate line, and I also know that might not be an option now as they have had a good deal of financial woes but the furniture was great. (also very old so not sure of what is made now) I had Thomasville which I believe is supposed to be a better quality than Broyhill and is more $. It was ok but it was not any better than the others. I ended up buying Rowe, which I believe is probably comparable to Broyhill- anyway it's only a few months old but it seems great and it is made in USA. I didn't spend a lot, as that was what the moral of the story seemed to be- there was no longer a correlation between quality and price. This may still be valid for much higher end lines but for what I was considering.... that's my 2 cents. I still do love your wallpaper though:)...See MoreLeather sofa w/ fabric seat: tacky or chic
Comments (16)I saw a Ralph Lauren photo somewhere where they put a single long, fairly thin pad on top of the cushions. Like a velvet maybe and there may have been some light tufting. It looked really great. I'm keeping it in mind for when the wear on my leather sofa cushions finally gets to me. I liked it because then the leather around the edge still showed, while the addition of the fabric pad on top made it more intentional and less like a big bag-o-cushions. The look of fabric on the seat top only is something I love from the lodge style and antique look I try to go for. I sewed a fabric to just the top only of an antique leather chair (has a thick cushion like a sofa) and it looks like it was originally there, instead of being a "fix"....See MoreBrand new sofa stained - crypton fabric - help!
Comments (18)Omigosh @jhouse I didn't see your comment 2 years ago and just got notice of this thread being revived and saw it. I am completely in love with my Crypton. No pills, spills and stains (tho I am careful) are easy to remove with a damp cloth and some dish soap. I wrote about what I bought in the previous comment, but I guess I didn't link to the actual fabric. I'm sure it's too late for you but maybe someone else can use the info B5605 Parchment the herringbone is very small and barely noticeable as a pattern. https://www.greenhousefabrics.com/fabrics/category/crypton_fabrics I think the pilling problem might be caused by the blend of the fibers. This is mostly rayon, which is very soft to touch and doesn't pill. I can imagine if you selected a blend with mostly poly or acrylic, pilling could be a problem. It also has a 63,000 double rub durability, which also might affect the pilling, not sure. It's also USA made and is water cleanable. I imagine if you got one that is NOT water cleanable and used water on it, that could affect it also. This fabric has no pills at all, even when I've rubbed it removing a stain. Even that doesn't affect the appearance of the fabric....See MoreCrypton fabric - how easy to clean
Comments (11)I have written this before: I had my sectional recovered in Crypton. I don't really understand what Crypton is..some kind of treatment - but they don't seem to call it that - which is used on many different kinds of fabrics. I am unsure if the kind of fabric makes a difference on clean-ability. I bought mine from Greenhouse Fabrics; it's a blend of rayon and a small portion of poly with just a splash of nylon. This Crypton is made in the USA, has 33,000 rub rating and is cleaning code W, meaning it can be cleaned with water. From what I've seen some places, other fabric combos and cleaning codes (solvent clean) might have different results, but I am not sure. Lots of it comes from China, which I didn't want. So, within the first two weeks of getting it back from the upholsterer, I caught my toe on my coffee table and spilled a full glass of red wine on my new cream colored piece. OMG. I seldom drink red wine and have NEVER spilled a glass on the sectional in the 20 previous years, lol! I quickly googled what to do; it said to use a small amount of liquid dish soap in water, wipe off the spill, wipe again with clean, clear water until the soap was out. I did that and it was like magic. The red wine disappeared with nary a trace. About 2 weeks later, I noticed a spot I had missed on the front of the couch, so I did the same treatment, never expecting it to come out after that long, but it came right out. My grandson got some chocolate on it not long after and it wiped right up. I love this fabric because it's soft as anything; nothing like that hard, stiff feeling sunbrella fabric I've had on outdoor furniture. You would never guess this was a stain resistant fabric. I'd call it stain proof, based on my experience with this particular one. I think this is mine: https://www.greenhousefabrics.com/fabric/b5605-parchment Hope this helps. I'd ask for a sample of whatever you're considering and try getting stains out of it first. I'm sorry for your husband's health challenges. This is a pic the upholsterer took for their website:...See MoreRelated Professionals
