Question about Cherry and 'Asian Cherry'

I have been looking for a cherry dining table and we saw one yesterday by Tradewinds Furniture, whom I have never heard of but it was a very nice looking table and supposedly solid cherry, except for one thing, It had what looked like a crack near one end, when I asked the store decorator about it she said it was a mineral streak and was common to cherry and that such cracks just open up sometimes. she said it was not there on the piece when they put it on the floor three weeks ago.

also the wood itself is not listed on the tag but on their website it says they use "Asian Cherry" I do know they are an importer.

I was wondering if any of the resident experts here could comment on the mineral streak thing and the Asian cherry as opposed to what other manf. use?

Thanks
