Oddball question for carpet pros

Greetings,

We have a comically odd situation in the midst of our reno. Carpet subs showed up last Monday to demo out old carpet & pad. The two fellows stripped the great room, cleaned up, and proceeded to install new 1/2" 8 Lb pad. Just then, GC phones me to inform that the carpet we ordered was not coming in that day, Mohawk final QC rejected the lot for being off color. So until next Thursday (3/5), we are using the room as normal (TV, etc), sitting on chairs on the pad. The carpet subs (Latin American gentlemen) were not able to clearly communicate when I asked them about using the pad, and the GC didn't act like it was a big deal either. We are keeping it clean, but is using an uncarpeted pad going to compromise it's longevity or quality in any way? Thanks in advance for advice!

It will not hurt it as long as you are careful not to abrase it or rip it. Be careful and you'll be fine. The QC statement sounds like a coverup for a foul up...somebody didn't order and now its on its way. You'll be fine come Thrusday.

Thanks, Echo. You may be right about a coverup...I have my suspicions, but it isn't too big an inconvenience, so I'm not pushing the issue.

I am not sure the question? Are you asking if the carpet roses are as good as Knockout? Or are you asking is Carefree Sunshine as good as Knockout? If you are asking about carpet roses, the answer in the south would (for me) would be far different from Knockout. Carpet roses tend to have cercepspora, anthracnose, blackspot, botrytis blight, grow in a strange way like half-bush and half-creeper, wanna-be-climber, but ground halfcover. Knockout grows like a shrub, no disease, no deadheading. If you are asking about Carefree Sunshine versus Knockout, then that is different. Carefree Sunshine is as healthy and carefree as Knockout. The yellow roses just keep coming day after day and though I have never seen any blackspot or other diseases with them, they have a more natural look than Knockout, in that their foliage is so apple green (as opposed to the dark emerald of Knockout) and blends perfectly with the sweet little yellow sunshiny flowers with the pretty reddish-orange eyelashes.

That special finds suckers every time!!! If you really think the installer is getting only $139, I have some property in the everglades for sale. Your really paying for the majority of the installation, in the carpets selling price!!! It is marked up that much at HD & Blow's. Everything is extra, even removal of your existing flooring and disposal of it. A rotten piece of tackstrip... extra. Transition strip... extra. If it sounds to good to be true...

Jij, Maybe sometimes, but I know I don't always pull up my scatter rugs to clean underneath as often as I should, and often find grit underneath. It's interesting as I don't have pads under any, and never ever are shoes worn in the house. I appreciate that I can throughly clean under my rugs. Also, I've had both and now I like only hard surfaces under beds because too much dust can accumulate very quickly. After vacuuming and or dust mopping hard surfaces, I can see that it is clean if I want to look. Editing to add: I don't want to give the impression that I rarely move and clean under my few small rugs and that I find piles of crap under them, LOL!

Mike - I am not sure if Laura has been using LEDs but I bought these daylight (~5000K) LEDs last year - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YEMKJE2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Plus I had some of the soft white 2700K as extras from when I bought a couple packs for some floor lamps and small table lamps. The price this year is about $10 cheaper for the bulbs than what I paid last year. Mine are all non-dimmable which is cheaper, but the key is to go for the "100W equivalent" (~14W actual). The actual watts are a bit less than 1/2 the CFLs (14W for LED vs 23W for CFL). I can only speak for the Philips brand but I noticed that Amazon has their "Basics" brand with 6-packs of either daylight or soft white for around $20 for a 6 pack, which is not bad (am not sure of the quality though) - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Equivalent-Daylight-Non-Dimmable-6-Pack/dp/B01MSMKBG3/ref=pd_sim_60_14?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=5J7B762QBAH2KS9PVGV9&th=1 I have the LEDs mixed in with the CFLs in my basement setup (and in the middle are 2, 4ft daylight T5 HOs). What I just realized is that the "daylight" LEDs are 5000K and the "daylight" CFLs are 6500K, so by putting those along with my 2600K/2700K LEDs & CFLs, I apparently created a nice range there!

My problem is that you could not communicate with the installers, telling me they were not legal citizens of the US.

This is a very big deal in the flooring industry, as more and more illegal immigrants, destroy the trades, where they are no longer respected and only thought of as a commodity.

They should have not installed the cushion, if the carpet was not going to be covering it. The good thing is, any damage to the cushion, it can be fixed. If any food spills, you may get mold growth under your carpet, once installed.
