I had this issue and after discussion with GC and tile co., it was all ripped up and reinstalled. If you are uncomfortable now, just wait a few months until buyers remorse hits. Also, if you were to sell the house, potential buyers would notice. Walk on it barefoot and then ask yourself if you are willing to put up with it forever. If possible, get it done right. Jerilyn, it's very unlikely it's defective material. This type of tile needs to be installed like marble, so they tell me and I went to the distributer to meet with the manager over this issue. She explained the whole thing to me. She was well aware I changed my mind on another bigger project using the very large planks. Not every tile setter can do marble but since this plank is in style right now, they all are trying to keep up. She said they offer classes to the companies who buy their supplies there but no one comes. They all think they know....sigh. After going through the process, I can't see where or how, removing a few tiles and reinstalling is an option. But I am not there. There are 4 points where adjoining tiles are going to meet up. If you adjust one, what happens on the adjoining edges. I am not a tile setter. I guess with enough experience they can make magic. This sounds like a quick fix and then what happens in a month or 6 months? Is this work guaranteed? But if you do this, before you tell anyone its okay, wait until it's dry and you can walk all over it. I saw on TV show they used a hockey puck to slide across the floor. If it's not even, the puck will bounce (lippage). Now, that might just be TV but you need to be double darn sure the job is what you want. In the end, even with a total rip up and the floor was floated to be sure it was level, I still have a few places where there is a tiny bit of lippage. It's not bad or in the walking path and I can tolerate it. The first install was like walking on very sharp edges and would even catch the sole of my shoe. When I ordered new window treatments, the woman who came to measure commented on the tile and then told me of her nightmare in a condo. It's all lippage, so much so she has rugs everywhere. It cost her a lot of money and because she didn't know any better, now she has a lot of rugs and a floor that will be a huge issue at resale. Make your stand, ask questions, go talk to the supplier without dissing anyone. Ask the GC if he would call this acceptable in a different job. I know right now it's about the cost of correcting it and ripping it out and starting over would be awfully hard for him to swallow. Did the GC sub out the tile work because that can get testy? But in the end, it's the GC who needs to work with you, you did hire him, right? I am sorry you have to go through this and I wish you all the best.

Some are just satisfied that you did a decent job on time for the price you said you would. Some want Manolo Blahnik shoes but only have have the cash for Nordstrom Rack shoes and think the tradesmen should pony up the difference because they are lucky to still have their jobs after the big melt down. Still others are so particular that they cannot be satisfied at any price. In order to compete tradesmen will use a 4 shutoff made in the far east that has questionable quality and longevity instead of the $12 shutoff that is made domestically and will last 25 years. They'll not own or upgrade their tooling and cutting blades so that the seams on those counter are crappy to you guys looking at the big city showhouses that have countertop budgets of $20k. They won't invest in their education and training to even know that their diamond blade is crappy or that failure of just one of those $4 valves will negate their entire year's savings. Let's look at it another way. What do you suppose makes up the vast majority of the fee difference between two plastic surgeons on a facelift ? Because one has a 2nd home payment in Aspen and the other only has a fishing cabin at the local Lake ??? Think any of them have done every done a "crappy" job on someone's face ? Think the fee for that job was more than your month's lunch money ? Why do you suppose some lawyers with 20 years experience charge $800+ an hour and some are only $250 ? Both can talk a judge's ear off and know where to find the Court Clerk to file a suit or a deed.

I can't believe how many comments there are suggesting that this problem would go away just by various corrective techniques. It's obvious that the tiles are bowed and that no amount of clips, or changes to grout lines, or better plumbing of walls will change that. Many tiles, even some expensive ones, suffer from this firing problem. The first thing I always do when I find a tile I like is put two pieces face to face to look for any gap or bowing. If there is some, it's a problem I don't want to deal with. If I see no problem, I test a few more pairs to be sure. The last shower I had done used 12" X 24" tiles that were dead flat. But I still had them laid in a stacked pattern, with no overlap, just to avoid any lippage possibilities as large format tile always is a challenge: I agree the OP's photos look bad, but the job appears uniform and consistent in its badness. To me this means the tile guy did the best he could with bowed tile laid in an inappropriate pattern for it. His fault was not stopping at an early point to discuss with the contractor and the owner what this was going to look like when it was done. But let's not keep speculating about non-existent solutions for tile that is so severely bowed. This is only going to be fixed by a redo using a different tile that is flat.

Sean - I’ve previously had mosaic tile installed that is EXACTLY the same re: tile extending past the edge of the mesh backing - and no lippage issues created. Also, I have two new mosaic tiles that I’m using in two bathroom renovations - and they BOTH are made the same exact way. I think this is typically how mosaic tile is installed on mesh backing. They are simply making an excuse - and hoping that you will accept it. These are the two new tiles I’m having installed (the spacing between the individual tiles looks uneven in some spots because the mosaic sheets are not laying on a flat surface) Notice that the tiles extend past the mesh backing along all four sides This sheet has some individual tiles removed - using them to replace some tiles on the sheet I’m actually having installed - but you can still see how the tiles along the edges extend past the mesh backing The mesh backing isn’t very thick - adjusting the amount of thinset used will make the edges even anyway.
