Waves are an issue which floor finishers have to deal with on occasion. There are lots of causes why waves appear in a sanded floor, but it is occurs during the belt sanding.

Find a finisher who will use a Trio or an Alto 3ds machine as the machine to use after the belt sander. These machines will eliminate most waves from a sanded floor. Hardplating with a rotary buffer works also, but the other machines (and those like them) are far superior in getting an almost absolutely flat, swirl-free and wave-free result.

Bona was very generous to bail the finisher out...in my opinion the orange peel had nothing whatsoever to do with the Traffic product, but more to do with applying Traffic over uncured of Mega. But I'm guessing here based on my experience finishing floors with these products.

Thanks for the info. I will ask some of the companies in our area, Virginia Beach, if they have the reccommended machines.
I also find it hard to believe Bona paid for the refinish.

It would seem reasonable that we would not have to pay the finisher as the job has not been completed anywhere near to any standard I can find. However, is this an instance where a companies insurance would apply?

If your floorguy has standard general liability insurance that does not pertain to his task at hand. That type of insurance is if he damages something else trying to do his work. He/she would have to be bonded or have performance insurance to cover their own workmanship.

You may need the services of a NWFA or NOFMA certified wood floor inspector before it's all said and done.

We do need the services of a floor inspector, how is such a person located???
We asked our builder to get an independent opinion on the work, he asked some guy from a flooring supply company---who, by the way,provided the finishers with the sanders that most likely caused the waves--HELLO!!!!! His thoughts are he sees a few problems and the waves(which he says he doesn't know what they are from, but it was a good sand job.

The finishers did sand the front legs of a cabinet and the kickplates of many in my kitchen, I guess this is where their insurance will apply.

Hi i bet the sanding machine he is using is a 110 volt ez8 they are notorious for that. Also the waves are the same size as the lines in the drum on the sanding machine . witch are expansion fins to keep the sand paper from slipping
