I would be careful rating current products based on experience with those purchased years ago. Many manufacturers have squeezed price points by lowering quality and/or have closed US plants and sent production off-shore. I think you have a right to ask where a product is made. I have a chair in the shop now proudly stating "Built in the USA," but if you look elsewhere you see "Manufactured in Malaysia." This means someone in the US took it out of a flat box and assembled it with a few bolts.

Janine, I don't think you can get EA furniture anywhere but Ethan Allen--it's part of their vertical marketing strategy. However, I would advise keeping your eye on what you want. In the current economic climate of collapsing consumer demand stores like EA are definitely getting severely squeezed. It may very well be that they are going to need to change some of their strategies-and pricing-to survive. I definitely recommend getting on the mailing list, electronic or snail mail or both. I am on although I'm not in the market for anything they have been sending out a LOT of special sale and financing opportunities. So you might be able to get your EA sofa after all. Don't give up. Loving my gorgeous Crypton Nomad Snow fabric on my reupholstered family room sofa. My husband spilled red wine on it about 3 weeks after we got it home <aaaahhhh!>. I cleaned it immediately with a very light spray of hydrogen peroxide and then a light spray of a fabric cleaner, wiped with a dampened face cloth. The wine came out immediately. No sign of it now. We've also had numerous dirty dog paw prints that came out easily as well. BARGAIN HUNTING TIP - After scouring the internet, I found a GREAT DEAL on the Nomad Snow fabric online at Hobby Lobby for $13/yard! That's the sale price, but the regular price is still ridiculously cheap at $22/yd (it goes on sale often). Bought an extra bolt just to have for future projects. If your are in the market for a new upholstered piece of furniture, it's worth finding out the manufacturer's COM (customer's own material) pricing and supplying your own fabric. I'm in the process of doing that now with a new living room sofa. Also, if you find a really reasonably priced reupholsterer, a little know secret is that most manufacturer's will ship their furniture unupholstered, covered in a muslin base and ready to be upholstered.
