Pellet stove vent and hearth

chapru

I recently built a small hearth (4'X4') for a pellet stove. I placed and leveled some nice field stone on it. There are some gaps between the stones, but I don't want to use caulk or grout. Any ideas? I was thinking about sand.

Also, the chimney only has lift blocks, but no liner. There is a terracotta thimble leading from the inside wall to the chimney. I was thinking about putting in a stainless chimney liner, but not sure of the size (stove has a 3'vent). I was also wondering since the pellet stove emits low heat, if I could let it vent directly into the chimney without a liner. Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
