Tomato Cage Size
Comments (41)Since we've got CRW cages, and PVC cages here, I was wondering if anyone has tried this: three or four bamboo sticks (say 5-6ft tall above ground) with galvanized steel wire hoops attached to them somehow every 10 or so inches up the poles. The wire would be that heavy guage, rust-free stuff you can buy in coils for like $6 or so. I have a lot of .5 in thick bamboo pools which I got for free. I am only going to plant about 4 or 5 indeterminant plants that would need these tall cages in my limited space, so I figured this was more cost-effective than buying a huge roll of remesh, or concrete remash mats for $7 each. Do you think that bamboo stakes with steel hoops attached would make a decent cage? If tying the hoops would be weak, maybe drilling holes in the bamboo and threading the wire through it? Then again, that might split the bamboo. Whatever, If it works out, I'll try to get some pics of these contraptions....See MoreFireplace Advice - Wood & Gas
Comments (21)We also have a fpl at our lakehouse, in NY, and that is about what the vent looks like. But for whatever reason, in my renovation here in CT, look at what I ended up with! And as I said, everyone tells me that it is due to code. The mfr, the vendor, the architect, the GC. As I told them, no one would expect that and someone should have known and let us know ahead of time. Not sure what can be done now. Thankfully it is in a part of the house where it is out of the way, but, still .... Yours may look like all the ones pictured, just saying I would ask first....See MoreAnyone care to post gas fireplace photos?
Comments (31)Joanie38, We are in the process of putting a direct vent gas fireplace in as well. We went with a Regancy and it's sitting in our living room waiting to be installed this week. We looked at the Excalibur as well. Although I liked both, the Regancy's flame (we purchased the extra ember kit) looked so real to me. Our cabinet maker is adding custom cabinets next to the fireplace to house our tv components and other items. It's going to be a long process. Comments (11)@EricHeisel, that sounds fairly normal (although worth considering akamainegrower's suggestion too). Keep in mind: since you have a fireplace you vent through that chimney, you may need to ensure it gets inspected / looked at by a fireplace specialist (or that your masonry contractor has the proper qualifications). You wouldn't want to have that work done and then find out something else needs to be done to meet code/safety regs for venting your fireplace (like getting the structural work done and finding out later it now needs a liner). Your masonry contractor may know this all but check - the structural issues may be different from the fireplace/venting requirements. Of course it's possible your current chimney has a steel liner inside it now, too....See MoreJOELHUNT
