What paint colors cheer you up?
Comments (10)When we purchased this home, I stood in each room and made a list of words describing how I wanted to feel in that room. I picked my colors using that list. (Granted, I had NO existing furnishings to worry about!) I have a ... golden-yellow laundry room red-orange kitchen (I wanted a yellow kitchen but that color clashed with the oak cabinets!) orange dining room blue-gray study green den brown powder room (I didn't repaint this room.) raffia beige foyer and stairwell (I originally wanted a happy, welcome-to-our home, yellow foyer, but this the only space with high, hard-to-reach ceilings. I took pity on DH and used beige. I love this shade of beige b/c it looks like a well-washed, much-loved piece of linen.) and that's just the downstairs. I love color. I wish I could change my room colors every season like I change my clothes! Our walls are only 8-feet and DH is a good painter so he told me to do whatever I wanted. Life is too short to not use what you love. Sometimes I think I might repaint the den to beige. Sometimes I wish I'd gone with apricot for the laundry room and kitchen. Oh well, maybe next time! I'll let DH rest his painting arm for a few years! Nin...See MoreCheap and cheerful oddball dining room help
Comments (43)Thanks for the rug feedback! The colors turned out great, bright but vintagey feeling. Perfect for me. nosoccermom, I don't NEED all that furniture...but I kind of WANT all that furniture. Especially the freakin sweet coffee table. sueb, the main reason is that the main traffic path of the house cuts through by the table there. And kitchen stools back up to it. So it seems that ending the rug with the table kinda works? Also I have having a problem with getting enough rug in behind the chairs on the right without ending a rug right in the middle of the path from the laundry room to the kitchen. So it seemed to work to pull the rug all the way over to the wall on that side even though it's a bit oversized really. My house has no center hall or staircase, really no hallways at all, so all traffic goes through the rooms on either side. It's kind of confusing and people always get lost, which is impressive considering our main floor is less than 1000 square feet. My non-declawed cats destroy all upholstered things and most rugs, but they are cute. This post was edited by robotropolis on Thu, Apr 17, 14 at 14:33...See MoreA laundry room named cheerful w/pix
Comments (33)Wow, it's hard to believe this thread was dug out of the depths! I'm sure by now it had to be on page 20 or 30. LOL California dreamer, the piece had plain cabinet doors on it. DH took them off, built an oversized front lined with cork and hinged it from the top and then we just screwed in little hooks from the bottom. Wahlah a multipurpose thingymagig. Our came from Lowes and they don't carry them any more but I bought one for my Mom from Sears, they call it a laundry valet. Thanks for the compliments! Neesie, I love wall words and have them on my pantry door. I had considered using one in the laundry room and I really like the same one you do. Thanks for the suggestion, I may go ahead and do it now... Alicia, my sweet friends came from Stein Mart but we have owned them for 6 or 7 years now. I just checked and it doesn't have a stamp or makers mark anywhere on them, sorry... patricia, Thanks, thanks and thanks! The pinky thing is actually a light terra cotta, I wonder if I sealed it with and enhancer if it would look more orangey? Anyway I have changed a bunch in the room but still haven't gotten around to the valance. Here's the new pictures minus the cover I made for the electrical panel, what do ya'll think? I decluttered a bunch and got some new baskets for underneath and moved a few things around. Any improvement??...See MoreThis might cheer you up!
