I am looking for a new sofa, a sectional. Our last sofa was from Ashley and it is a POS. Its very uncomfortable and I would like to avoid the same mistakes this time around. I'm looking for something simple, like pottery barn style. I'd like firm cushions. And I want them to maintain their shape. What brands should i be looking at? I saw a sectional at a local store recently and the brand name was England. I asked the store owner about the quality and she couldnt say enough good things about it and she stressed their 10 year cushion warranty and lifetime warranty on the frame. Then I searched online and found only bad reviews for England sofas. So obviously you cant trust the salespeople! Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

Definitely not high quality but we just bought our leather sectional from Jcpenneys and they have some that fit your description to a T. The ivory track arm style that sits lower to ground but comfortable and not weirdly on the floor as some of these new styles are was simply beautiful. I went for the light tan and its soft as butter and actually very well made. We simply love it. You could spend the money saved on other decorating items. Everyone that sees it compliments on it. Yes, I will get a host of texts after this commenting on Jcpenneys lower quality which I agree but this particular sectional that comes in TONS of optional colors was really my best purchase of 2011. loveeeeeee it.

It's interesting that you say the feel should be more or less the same if the dimensions are the same on a given manufacturer's sofas, because I was expecting that to be the case and it DEFINITELY was not when I went on my reconnaissance trip the other day. All of the La-Z-Boy sofas I sat on had the same seat depth, but the cushions felt remarkably different between styles, as did the pitch of the backs and seats, overall springiness of the support, etc. Same deal at Bassett, although in their case it was due to the fact that they offer several different options in terms of cushions (memory foam, innerspring, down, etc.). This couch is our main living space seating so I really want to be sure we love it! I appreciate your list of other quality brands and I'll keep an eye out for them when we go shopping. If you have any furniture retailers in the NYC/NJ metro area to recommend, I'd be grateful for those recommendations as well! DH hates furniture shopping so the fewer places I have to drag him looking for a high-quality, varied selection, the better!

We ordered a Southern Motion, West End Sectional in January. It was delivered in April and we love it. These are made in the US and we ordered ours through Green Mountain Furniture in Ossippee, NH. Fantastic customer service and they do their own deliveries in New England.
