ready to go....new haircut too !

This is my 2011 pre-ride pick. My hairdresser and I decided to go with a "buzz" cut to simplify my life and help keep me cooler. I love it...feels very soft and free ! DH likes it too :)

My fully packed trailer weighs 15( trailer empty) + 35# "stuff"- tent,sleeping bag.clothes,food , bike stuff...tires/tubes etc. I weigh 122 today so we'll see what happens there. Lost 8 # last year. Gained it back :(

My friend and I leave in the AM for Sarasota and then Wed. for Ft Meyers, where we take the ferry to Key West. We camp for the night on Stock Island and then meet up with 3 other group members . We start pedaling on Thurs. at 7 AM +/-.

I will try to send some newsy notes this year. Not sure what form they will take. DH will get pics emailed to him from me and will try to get them from email to photobucket. Not sure how that works so we'll see if it happens.

I hope to hear from some of you as I go along. I'll be back in my garden sometime in July. Bye now ! c

I remember when the afro was popular and I asked my Mom if I could have one and she said no. I was in the 7th grade and thought how mean. Well when I was a freshman(14) in high school, I asked again and she told me that I could do it IF I was responsible about it and kept it neat and always looked presentable. I remember it as one of my first big decisions and I was so proud of the fact that she had enough faith in me that I would do the right thing and I did. Fast forward a gazillion years later and my D son asked if he could grow his hair out so that he could wear it braided. At the time he was 14 and I remembered the encounters with my Mom and I said the same thing to him. My hubby immediately said no and we had a family meeting and we made it clear that if he didn't take care of his hair AND save up the money to pay for getting it braided himself, then it would be cut off. Well my son is now almost 22 with hair below his shoulders and he is very responsible about taking care of his hair. Actually he is almost obsessed about it :-) That was one of the first real mature decisions for him, just like it was for me. I think depending on the maturity level of the kid, 14 is not too young to start experimenting with hair. As long as it is made clear to the kid what the potential ramifications are, then I think it is fine. I think we as adults have to remember what it is like to be that age and struggle with individuality vs what's popular and how hard it can be for teenagers. It is just hair and it will grow back. I have had every imaginable hairstyle under the sun,afro, long, short, asymmetrical, mullet and braids. Each style represented me during a particular period and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to do different things. We have to support, be honest but let them discover who they are. Oh yeah one other thing, as soon as my son started growing facial hair, he loved it and I hated it. He would let it grow long and I would beg for him to please shave and my hubby gently reminded ME about letting him express his individuality :-) To me he looked like Grizzly Adams but to my son it made him look older. Ughh.... So the running joke between us was that I would call him Grizzly but if he wanted to look like a mountaim man, that was his choice. Again fast forward a few years and he has a very nice goatee that is now well manicured and he looks great. I remembered my own experience and let him be and he eventually grew out of the Grizzly Adams look. Thank goodness!

Natal, I think the previous owners got bamboozled by some decorator who must have had stock in the spotlight lighting industry. There seems to be a gazillion of those spots in the house. I haven't even begun to figure out all the switches. In my ideal world, I'd just take them all out in the LR/DR can't picture ever wanting 2" halogen spots turned on. The cabinets need painting - there's some water damage on the front of the sink base and some dings here and there. So I think a nice cream will really brighten the area up. Allison, yes, you noticed another bizarre decorating statement that "decorator" did for the owners. One the end of the peninsula cabinet run is a big piece of black granite. Also can be found on the end of the cabinet run by the kitchen sink. Really not going to happen in my house!! But, now I need to have a panel made to cover that area! On the other side of the peninsula facing into the DR are cabinets/drawers. So, it's just the end that needs a new face!

Good luck finding a hairdresser that will/can cut it like you want it! Whatever you do walk,or better still,run right on by Wal-Mart,Supercuts,etc! LOL I have had at least 5 hair cuts since we have been in NM,showed them pictures,verbally explained in detail to them how I wanted it,practically showed a couple how to hold the scissors.Even shampooed and blow dried in the style I wear before I went and told them I wanted a shorter version of THIS! Haven't found one person that can cut it like I want it and have had some really BAAAD haircuts.I even stopped a lady in the parking lot at Wal-mart the other day and asked her who cut her hair because it looked like the way I like mine.LOL The last 2 times I cut it myself.Figured I could chop it up as bad as anyone else and it was free!LOL Stacy-I have seen pictures of you with short hair and long hair and I love it short! Makes you look young,not that you are old or look old but there's just something about it short that is very becomming.I'm with you when it comes to long hair and heat/humidity.The shorter the better for me.Good luck and post a picture when you're done.

I’ve had some of those “take over the world” perennials, too:) This delphinium is one of those New Zealand delphiniums, bred by the Dowdeswell family. They are very heat tolerant and reliably perennial. They’re the best delphs I’ve ever grown. They do need plenty water, but they are gorgeous! I sure do love Love Song. I’ve seen yours Diane, absolutely gorgeous! Ownroot or grafted? I think you told me before, but I’ve forgotten. I do remember that most people had best success with it grafted, but there was someone who had a real beauty that was ownroot I wish Poseidon’s blooms held up so well in the hot sun. Violet’s Pride holds up fine, and I’m hoping that Quicksilver will not fry in the sun. I will soon have some idea, as my Quicksilver is getting ready to open its very first bud. I just love those purple roses. Ingrid, I hear lots of good things about Plum Perfect. I’ve had it in and out of my shopping cart more than once. How long have you had yours? As far as I know, it’s supposed to do well on its own roots. Maybe when the weather cools down, your PP will leap into growth. I hope so. Speaking of weather, today was SO much better! That’s the good news. The bad news is that it’s forecasted to be even hotter and drier this coming weekend, than it was last weekend. I had 13% humidity, and Ingrid 3%. It’s hard to imagine it getting even worse. High winds are coming too. I sure hope we don’t have wildfires. There’s plenty in Northern CA to keep the firefighters busy. It’s just terrible there. Sabby says thank you very much. He really does seem cool and delightfully free, without his heavy coat. I’m afraid I’m with Ingrid about his tail. I know lions do have that kind of tail, but I keep thinking of some sort of rodent. Maybe it’s the kangaroo rat, that has that sort of tail? Anyway, I have an absolutely ridiculous phobia of rodents, so I’m not real crazy about that tail. He’s had it done plenty of times before though, and it’s amazing how quickly it grows back. I love it...I have always wanted a tatoo and used to think I would get a wolf on my leg....but now...Eagle Woman... fly you make me teary...thank you. I don't think I have ever been so complimented.

Each mile I ride you all will be with me in spirit. Each person I meet along the way will change me in ways I have yet to discover. Just as the "knowing " of you all has done. Life has so many twists and turns and we never know where we will end or what we will see...who we will meet. The experience on the road is so special . The best part is leaving oneself open . Thank you for being open to me and allowing me to share with you. c

I just didn't know how to get the pics from email to my Photobucket...DH said he wasn't sure how to do it. Maybe the "upload" feature will work. faron: glad you will be cycling too ! It sure is a great way to see the world...10 mph. I did my first tour last year when I went from St Augustine to San Diego in 62 days. We were 4 of us at the finish. As a matter of fact I will be in Kalispell WY this August and we are going to go all over the area so ND may well be on the itinerary too. Will let you know.

Les I will wave at your Mom.....:) I feel well and ready so should be a good trip. Only concern is the heat. Our first day on Thursday is 75 miles so a long one to start. If we do OK with that then the rest is a piece of cake . haha..

Your note along with your powerful and kind thoughts of each of you will carry me along over the roads. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart....c

and, there couldn't be a better haircut for such a journey!! looks cute too! i used to cut one of my boy's hair in a buzz---loved rubbing his head with my hand--must feel great!!
