We had 2 men that live in an apt. comlex on the other side of the lake decide to go swimming this past Saturday.

Never mind that they had been drinking....one couldn't swim and the other could barely swim...no life jackets...and both were wearing jeans and heavy work boots.

They "borrowed" an abandoned, flimsy kayak and proceeded onto the 25' deep lake. Within minutes, the kayak began sinking and both men were in the water and struggling for their lives.

My neighbor across the lake saw what was happening, jumped in his speedboat and raced to the rescue. He dragged one of the men into his boat and dove overboard to locate the other man who had disappeared under the surface.

He tried several times but couldn't find the other swimmer and had to give up his rescue attempts. The body was recovered an hour later on the floor of the lake.

Now, he did this all in spite of having severe, painful back problems that limit his mobility in walking.

I am so proud of our neighbor that he put everything on the line to try to save lives.

But why, why, why would 2 grown men do something so stupid and so dangerous? At the very least they should taken off their work boots.
