HELP! Masons start tomorrow but.......

Hi,

I am adding a stone surround to a three sided fireplace. I am concerned since I am using real stone the weight will exceeds what the floor was designed to support. To hire a PE will take many weeks where I live and I need to move in (already 4 months late). The mason is cutting each stone to be 4" or less. He says I have nothing to worry about. I am unsure. The corner of the fireplace happens to be located in a large load bearing wall supported from the basement. This load bearing wall also supports the loft above the fireplace so it already has extra bracing and reinforced in the basement. I have the engineer floor plans that shows maximum loads. What is the best way to calculate weight of the stone per sqft? thanks!
