Pad Thai help

I need some help please! This recipe for pad thai caught my eye and I'm thinking about making it. I'm pretty sure I've never had pad thai in my life, but I'm trying to expand my culinary borders and this looks good. Anyways, here's the list of ingredients. What in the world is tamarind from a pliable block? I live in a small town with a Kroger and a Walmart and I'm wondering if I'll be able to find this. I'm also thinking the noodles might be a problem so if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it :)

Vegetarian Pad Thai (epicurious)

12 ounces dried flat rice noodles (1/4 inch wide; sometimes called pad Thai or banh pho)

Â3 tablespoons tamarind (from a pliable block)

Â1 cup boiling-hot water

Â1/2 cup light soy sauce

Â1/4 cup packed light brown sugar

Â2 tablespoons Sriracha (Southeast Asian chile sauce)

Â1 bunch scallions

Â4 large shallots

Â1 (14- to 16-ounce) package firm tofu

Â1 1/2 cups peanut or vegetable oil

Â6 large eggs

Â4 garlic cloves, finely chopped

Â2 cups bean sprouts (1/4 pound)

Â1/2 cup roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped
