best looking 'no-reveal' gas fireplace
Comments (6)Our architect specified the Heat N Glo Escape and it IS beautiful, but we didn't realize when we agreed to install it, that the cost was $4500. That's a couple thousand more than almost any other fireplace we could have had. Be sure to check on the price if you are interested in this one. Also, the tile guy and the trim carpenter said they had never seen such a difficult unit to work around. We do love it, but probably would have opted for a different unit if we would have realized the cost....See MoreBest looking gas fireplace
Comments (2)I remember being told by a retailer that Valor is the gold standard and probably the most expensive of the direct vent systems. But the gas logs by Eiklor, which are not direct vent but vented (NOT VENTLESS) produce the most dramatic dancing flames I have ever seen. But we opted for a Jotul direct vent gas insert and are very pleased with it. The flame is real-looking but the really dazzling appearance of the Eiklor. But the Eiklor is not energy efficient. It depends on your priority. If you live where the climate is mild and you do not need really serious heat from your fireplace, consider the Eiklor. But if you're comitted to "green" issues, get a direct vent system....See MoreDecorators - Opinion on Gas Fireplace: no hearth ok?
Comments (23)We have a nice Mendota gas fireplace, installed last year. Builder said "doesn't need a hearth". Installed the wood floor all the way up to the fieplace...and turned on the fireplace, and the floor was hot. Contacted Mendota. They said fireplace has to be 6" off the floor in order to not need hearth. Since ours is flush...now we have a hearth stone. So if you are doing flush, you will likely need one....See MoreNeed opinions linear gas fireplaces
Comments (1)Valor makes great fireplaces, but the L1 doesn't work too well on propane. If you have natural gas, you should be fine. I am not familiar with the Enviro unit, but we handle Fireplace Xtrordinair, Mendota, Majestic, White Mountain Hearth, Napoleon, Sierra Flame, Valor, Astria (used to be Lennox), Town & Country and a number of others. I can give you some relative advice on what they have, particularly if you are looking for certain features. If you're trying to hit a lower price point, you might want to look into Sierra Flame. They have some nice-looking but price-conscious linears available....See Moreballyroebuck
