Hi everyone,

It has been a long, long time since posting here. I have justed returned home to Canada after a long stay in Scotland. With the last 4 months of getting ready to move, living in kaos, entertaining with friends and saying good bye - my waistline has exploded. My choice. Now I am back to my weight watchers program and having to shed 40 pounds.

I am starting at 167 pounds, size 14/16. My goal has always been that notorious 130 pounds. If I can succeed at getting to a size 12/14 and hold on to it for 6 months - I would be extremely happy.

I hope everyone is doing well. Now that I am back online again, I look forward to posting regularily.

Good Morning!
I have my book out and calculator today. Starting fresh.
My calculator is UK based - does anyone know the point value for 1 cup of 2% and 1% milk?
It's cooling down to 26 degrees today - a good day to get out for a walk. I hope everyone is getting out and enjoying some fresh air today.

McPeg---good luck on getting back into WW. I am still hanging in there. Need to get back to Journaling on a regular basis--helps me.

2% milk is 3 points, fat free and 1% are 2 points per cup.

Good Morning and APRIL FOOLS DAY TODAY!!! Soups I like to make: Yellow Split Pea & Lentil or Carrot, Onion & Zucchini Basically I take the largest cooking pot I have and the heaviest...for the pea/lentil soup, throw in about a cup of split peas, 1/2 cup lentils, chopped up onion, bay leaf and gently simmer for half an hour, add more water if needed and as many chicken broths cubes as I fancy. Let sit for an hour, boil again for another half hour, let sit and do this on and off a few times and then let it sit to cool - the sitting inbetween lets the peas swell and soften more. I figure for WW about 3.5 for a large bowl. My other soup is fast, easy and 0 WW points. I mince an onion, shred the zucchini and carrot, throw in a pot, throw in water and a couple of chicken broth cubes and simmer gently for 20 minutes. You can add milk to this just before serving but then you have to adjust the point value. I prefer not to and just enjoy the flavours. I also enjoy adding 1 point by adding a teaspoon of low fat margarine to my bowl (great flavour boost). Those are my favourite home made soups. I do the pea soup on the weekends and alternate what soup I make so I don't get board. I loved stewed tomato but usually use them to make lowfat pasta sauces by mashing and gently simmering with onion, spices and throw in a beef cube and pour on my pasta followed by a LIGHT sprinkle of parmesean cheese (low fat if I can find it). Wheeewwwww, am I GLAD Monday is coming! Friday night - out with my aunt...ever feel that you are participating just to appease family politics? Don't get me wrong - she is a wonderful lady but body language speaks volumes...she looked at her friend all night and barely gave me a glance. Last time for me. Called DH today at his folks and told him as much as I enjoyed myself I really felt like she was having a night out with me to check in on things. Okay, call me bad, but I would have been happier at home. It's keeping DH happy and the family. Turned my phone off - 7 phonecalls last week with everyone checking up on me - couldn't even sit down to eat and that darn phone kept ringing. Sat. afternoon, got invited for a light lunch with our new neighbours - very nice folk - enjoyed it and sat out. Today had dinner with friends (b-day for them). Enjoyed it. Somehow managed to get the bathroom painted. Now have the kitchen to do. Threw 7 bags of compost down on the front lawn, raked it in with 2 bags of grass seed and did another planter in the front. Having all out war this summer with SLUGS - they have been unusually bad - so bad I have been out with garden tools and SALT hunting them out. Actually got bio-friendly, less chemicals, slug pellets. I have worked too hard and have invested time and money enough not to have those critters eat my plants. So that has been me and I have been neglecting this post. Tomorrow I will be getting ready to start another week and SEND OUT CINNAMON FLAVOURED TOOTHPICKS!!!!! Send me an email with your details and I will send you a lovely little packet of toothpicks to chew on...they are sheer heaven! Really happy to hear of great doctor appointments, weight loss. Hi all, I'm still here too. Inspite of the ammount of food I ate this week, I am another pound down. This is a psychological breakthrough for me as it puts me in the 40's. Knowing I have to fight to keep it will hopefully give me incentive to say no to the little extras I let slip in. McPeg being idle is hard. I don't know where you work. Could you bring something to keep you fingers busy like quilt squarers, needlepoint or a crossword? It helps me that I made a rule that I cannot eat anything while doing something else. Reading,television,at the computer,outside, talking on the phone....if I eat I must focus on that alone unless dining out with others of course. Otherwise I would be thoughtlessy inhaling my food. Erica, hope things perk-up for you DH (and you) soon. Kathy, use your time with DH gone to do something nice for yourself. Oh how we love them, but sometimes I dream of how easy it would be to be single. Then reality hits and I realize how much we both need each other in so many different ways. Fortunately we are both ones who need alone time and understand that. Alice I just discovered Diet Rite sodas are now made with Splenda and have no calories or sodium. It sounds like you really like your gym. Which do you belong to? I would like to go but I don't like the way most are run today. Everyone have a great holiday weekend. Hi Everyone - can't believe it but I have finished digging the garden, laid gravel along the outside of the fence along its edge (area was full of weedy grass 3 years ago - I took an AXE to get most of it out - it was embedded in clay/gravel/builder rubbish - been weed killing the area last year and finally felt I was beating the weeds/grass so I could haul the gravel to tidy up the area. Have also finished the second coat on the kitchen walls - still have a second coat needed on the plaster ceiling. Rushed to get this done before DH returns home Friday morning. The bottoms of my feet hurt. Tomorrow - back to work - also my grass is poking through the front lawn where I top dressed and put more grass seed. Rain tomorrow and for the next few days! Even got a few more plants in the garden, put up trellis and will vacuum tonight and then collapse in a nice, soaking bath. Meals have been very, very erratic and NOT ON PLAN - but I have more aching muscles this week from heavy yard/house work that it feels something everywhere, everytime I move. Looking forward to settling back into routine and just doing my stepping machine for exercise. Kathy, will take you up on that offer of heat - what is heat to you?? I consider anything at 80 degrees and up. Our friends are moving into a newly build house in Oct/Nov. I have been invited to help them with their garden. Will be splitting some of my plants and shifting them across. Also teaching their daughters a little about taking care of plants too. Have also managed to get a couple of cook ahead meals in the pressure cooker and oven before sitting down to eat. I think I am missing DH - not good at sitting still for any length of time - have to keep busy and doing things. Take care everyone! Have to get a few things put away and get my bath running! McPeg

Hi Susy,
Many thanks for the update. I agree that journaling helps a lot. Posting on the forum helps me a lot to stay on course. I see you are also a quilter - so am I. I do a mix of machine piecing and hand quilting. Keeping my hands busy keeps my mouth out of the fridge!

Didn't win the lotto last night. But I am winning at sticking with my goals this week. Loaded up on the lovely fresh veggies now available and really enjoying them.

Hi McPeg. You sticking around this time? Well I have fallen badly too. I had a change of BP meds and sat for a month and was sad and cried (definitely not the usual me!) and ate and put on weight. I kept waiting for the side effects to go away but they did not. Uck! I called and am on new meds but the weight wants to stay and many vacation days are not helping. Heading to the doc next month so I need to get busy. I'll join you for awhile. I have salad waiting too and bought some green beans someone grew and picked for 50 cents a bag at a yard sale - I was "doing" 6 big bags of green beans for hours yesterday. Shouldn't need to buy more for a long time. Oh one more thing I have Discovery Health channel now and there is a show about people who have lost a pile of weight. It's called Losing It and is on right before lunch here - great timing! Just curious did you see the movie - Supersize Me? Well worth watching. Kathy
