To preheat or, um, to preheat?

We just purchased a Kenmore range. There is a "Preheat" button and a "Bake" button. They seem to provide identical functions- heating the oven to the desired temperature and then beeping when that temperature is reached. "Bake" appears to preheat just as certainly as does "Preheat," and "Preheat" does in fact bake just like "Bake." When would you use one over the other? Is there a difference that I have overlooked?
