Weekly Weigh-in, Week of 7/17/09

Good morning. The results from last week are as follows.

Harold - Weight 213, lost 3, total lost 62

Silver - Weight 131, lost 0, total lost 24. Silver is in maintenance mode, so this is good.

Eklektos - Weight 138.5, lost 0, total lost 13.5

Jasmi - Weight 137.8, gained 0.8, total lost 10.2. A slight uptick from some birthday parties and such, but came down later in the week.

Betty - Weight 159, lost 3, total lost 19. Great job, breaking into the 150s.

Helen - Weight 162.2, lost 1.2, total lost 37.8. A good week.

My results this week

Weight 211, lost 2, total lost 64

Average Calories - Food 1728, exercise 423

Hooray, I'm overweight. That's right, my body mass index is now 29.8, which puts me out of the obese range and into the overweight range.

Congratulations, Harold, on yet another 2 pound loss, and on moving out of the obese category! 64 pounds to date is just terrific. And changing categories is really satisfying too.

I have not weighed since last week when I got a 137 on the scale. We'll see what Tuesday's weigh-in says. I am feeling smaller. Today it's kind of cool here, so after church I decided to put on jeans. I got out my Old Navy "the flirt" size 10P jeans, which were my "skinny" jeans last fall. I was so excited to be in them last fall. And today, I can pull them up and down without having to unbutton or unzip them. It is very exciting to think of buying new jeans in a single digit size this fall! I want to wait until I'm down to 135 or below before buying more, though, just to be sure I get the right size. Who knows? Maybe I can skip the 8s altogether and move no down to a 6.

I have eaten a little bit broader range of foods this week. I'm trying to move on up the carb ladder to see which foods I can assimilate well and which ones (like watermelon) I just simply must avoid. I had my first dark chocolate in quite some time. It was scrumptious. So, we'll see how this all affects me come Tuesday. I find, though, that I just don't want to eat anything but the smallest portions. Seconds no longer have any interest for me, so there are definitely some adjustments and new patterns taking hold.

Eklektos, you scared me for a minute there. I thought I made a mistake, but then I remembered your 137 came after the official weigh-in day.

Congrats on the loose jeans. I'm still wearing my old size 42 pants, and they'll fall down if I don't wear a belt. I've skipped size 40 at least, and bought a pair of 38 shorts. That was a while ago. I'm not sure where I'll end up.

Harold, glad to hear the surgery went well. Recovery is pretty quick, isn't it? Don't strain your eyes while you wait. I had LASIK about 9 years ago and remember having to be very careful for a few days not to get poked in the eye or anything, wearing sunglasses even inside for the first day or two. Silversword! You are just rockin', girlfriend! I am amazed at you. 129--one TWENTY nine! Woo-hoo! Here's something some of you might be interested in. There's a site at www.weightview.com where you can upload a photo of yourself (in somewhat form-fitting clothes) and plug in your current and goal weights. Then they will adjust the photo to give you an idea of what you'll look like at your goal weight. It's free, but you have to have a Facebook account to log in to their FB page where they will post your altered photo for you. (They don't post your weight or any info about you, and even though there is a weigh-loss community there you can join, you don't have to do it.) I did it today (it's totally free) and got my photo a few hours later. Of course, I don't know how accurate it is, but if it is on target, then I might want to drop my goal weight a little more. I don't know. My body type is really weird. I wonder if I'll ever really be happy with my end results. I doubt I'll ever look sleek or svelte, always "matronly." Good Morning, Wish I was camping with Ekl. I bet she would really push me with that paddle. Reminds me of the time year before last when DH and I were camping and decided to float/paddle down the river. About halfway through, the sky blackened and I could hear thunder in the distance. I am terrified of lightening, especially anywhere near the water. Have had, locally, on 2 separate occasions in the last few years, a young boy struck and killed by lightening, near water. I grabbed the paddle and let me tell you I had an upper body workout that day! I think DH got a real kick out of watching me kill myself trying to get down river and off of the water before the storm hit. It wasn't a bit funny to me. Thank God, the storm turned and didn't hit us. I never could have out paddled it as far upriver as we were. SS, Thanks for the vote for the award. But remember, I only lost 5 lbs last week. The other 2 were from the weeks before. I've also found a big difference in weight with different times of day, different clothes, and after meals. I only go by 1st thing in the morning weight in my nightgown. Counting calories would be too hard for me. I am so lazy. I have found it easier to just forget the bun completely at BK and have the meat in a dish with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I have to have my mayo. I've never been big on bread anyway. Lots of meals I cook I just forget to fix any bread. Drives DH crazy because he feels he has to have it. But, he will settle for WW sliced bread with butter spread on it when I forget! Harold, How are those eyes doing? Can you see us yet?!?! Sorry we are confusing you with the multiple weigh-in days. Weekends aren't good to me, so it is best to have a day to get back on track before posting an official weight. 48 lbs lost! WOW! Such tenacity! If I can hang in, that would put me right around my goal weight. I shall set my sights there. Peg, 3 lbs! Great job! I can't wait to get below DH in weight. I HATE HATE HATE weighing more than him. That's why I get discouraged when I only lose 1 lb a week now. I think he hangs around high 150s -low 160s. Once I get below him I will be ok with "slow and steady wins the race". Can y'all tell I'm from the "I WANT IT NOW" generation? That's how I got so large. I wanted those 2 big bowls of chocolate ice cream everyday while I forgot veggies and exercise. Now I'm paying for it. Those chest pains were my gift from God to wake me up. It worked! Karen, I'm glad you held steady while being sick. Are you feeling better? I bet you are weak as a puppy. Take it easy 'till you get some strength back. I know what you mean about night snacking. DH eats stuff every night after we get in bed. Can't fall asleep because of all of that eating noise on the other side of my bed! Some nights it's peanut butter crackers, others it's 2 peanut butter sandwiches, chips & dip, whatever he can find in the kitchen. If I can't resist, I will do celery with a very little PB, or 15 or so pistachios (sp?) shelled and eaten very slowly while he pigs out. I try to resist "Roseanne" that is giving Silver such a hard time!!! Helen, Everybody needs some fun with friends occasionally. And to still lose a pound, how sweet it is! Jas, About the WW. If it helps you get where you are going sooner, it is worth the $8 weekly. I did WW for a while once. My meeting was about 40 miles from home, so I quit going. Being right at work would really help you. My friend does it and it has helped her. It's just about finding what works best for you. If you have friends who are doing it at work with you, that would really help you stick to your diet. Nothing like having that up close and personal encouragement. If it would still be you working alone and you can get yourself kick-started, Save the $8 to use at the grocery store on healthier foods and spend the time you would spend at the meetings working out, walking, etc. Check in here more often for encouragement and our tried and true diet tips that have worked for us. Hi everyone!!! I didn't step on the scale this morning...oops. Will do it when I get home. But just wanted to say good morning to you all! Still not back on my diet, or exercise regime. But worked in the yard for 12 hours on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Yes, we finished at 10pm on Sunday...had the spotlights out and everything! I figure pushing a wheelbarrow full of concrete for two hours should be better calorie burning than anything else I could do!! Will weigh tonight :) Skinny (goal-jeans) are still able to be zipped and buttoned but are not comfortable. Still want to target my hips/thighs area. But, all other clothes are fitting great, which I feel is the real testimony to weight loss rather than the actual poundage. Also, many are recognizing my weight loss. And they want to know my secret... LOL! 1. Eat fewer calories (not less food!!!) 2. Burn more calories Of course, it can't be that simple, but it is. One of my office mates started her low-carb diet at the same time, but does not exercise very much, and deprives herself of food so is hungry and binges. Also, does not count calories... hmmm... six months later, she's still the same weight. She offered me her low-carb cookbook, but with recipes in there that call for six tablespoons of butter I declined. :)

Hi Harold Nice to see your before and after pictures. You are definitely a motivation for all of us. I see how much your mid section has changed.You look much younger and healthier now. Thanks for posting your pictures. My weight yesterday was 133.6. Thats a 0.4 pound less than last week. I am kinda stuck in the lower 130s from past few weeks. Time to do something different to break this plateau. Silver,Thought I am ~134, I dont feel good about my weight. I feel I am still looking fat which I am in a way. My thighs are the areas which needs lot of toning. If I could get to lower 120s I may actually feel comfortable with my weight. I am happy that you are comfortable with your weight rt now. I think you did more work outs than me and hence more toned though we both are almost at the same weights. Ivamae, there are so many snacks in the isle which are fat free or low card and are just 100 calories. But I think all these processed , ready made snacks are not part of healthy life style. The closer we are to the unprocessed foods, the more healthier we are. I also noticed I could keep my weight off when I was snacking on strawberries, blue berries and oranges. Betty and Helen , congrats on your weights.

Oh, I am NOT giving up. I am staying the course !! I have a way to go yet. Besides, I just got a "Wow, just look at you girl, where did you go you sexy thang? " from a friend that I hadn't seen in a few months while she was out in Texas looking after some of her kin there. That plumped my wheretofor and I am not about to just give up. This is probably just some sort of weird thing my body is doing to get back at me for turning down that Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, fried okra, biscuit and Gravy a few days ago. LOL

YEA, HAROLD!!!!!!!! Don't cha LOVE it? How "sweet" are the pants falling down! ;~))

Helen, Been there - Done that. It gives you a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach to see those scales go up instead of down. But, it's just a 'thang' and will be gone next week. And the friend's comment really helps your resolve.

Ek, Seems like the foods you are adding back aren't hurting you. Good job!

I may have lost a pound, but the potato soup and fried apples I had for dinner are high carb foods and made my scales refuse to move down this morning. They are 2 of Aunt Bern's favorite foods and I was just too tired to fix me anything low carb. At least I resisted the corn bread muffins she wanted!! (She fell 1st thing yesterday morning and scared me to death. Thank God nothing got broken, but I was on my feet all day and gave in to the not so healthy dinner.)

This week - still 159.

Good morning everyone!
I'm bouncing from 130-135 all week. Was 132 this morning. But am not worried. Doing a lot of work in the yard, not eating healthy at all. But def. burning calories!!!! Can't wait to get back in a more regular exercise regime but when I'm so sore from digging fence post holes it's really hard to get my body to do even more :)

Silversword, I think digging fence post holes counts as exercise. That extra weight is probably all muscle.

Congrats to Eklektos and Jasmi for some very nice weigh-in numbers.
