Hello everybody and thanks for all of the birthday wishes. I had a wonderful birthday surrounded by family and friends. I celebrated with both DS's, DIL and DH in Virginia and then celebrated with friends on Saturday. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people such as all of you. I hope my next 50 years are even better!

Good Monday all,

And boy does it ever feel like a Monday!

I had a good weekend even though I worked my buns off. I really got alot done and it feels good. There is so much more to do! One project at a time.

Raeanne, Hostas and lilies how neat you were thinking of them. Now think of several million dollars. LOL

Hi All,

Besh, glad you enjoyed your birthday weekend, looking forward to pics.

Suzanne, even though you worked the buns off at least you had gorgeous weather for it, right?

Met a friend in Cape May last night for dinner at a local place right on Delaware Bay known for it's view of spectacular sunsets. To say the sunset was in fact spectacular is an understatement.

Vacation is over, back to work tomorrow, boo :-(

Everyone check in!! Watching H3ll's Kitchen tonight, I am hooked.

Good afternoon! It's 91 F. and sunny here in SE Texas. Where did our "Spring" go??? Everybody has been so busy this week! I'm impressed with those of you who have stayed on your eating plan, worked out regularly, and are feeling positive about things. That's the kind of incentive and motivation I like! I attended our community center's Mother's Day luncheon today. We had a style show first, clothes from Palais Royal, then a lovely high tea/luncheon. Very much "lady foods", but it was all scrumptious! Today I sat with a table of people I've met briefly during this past year, so I had a chance to get to know them much better today. I was the "baby" at the table at 61, and the oldest one was 93. Most of the other 6 women were in their high 70's and 80's. These women are very active in the community and never seem to slow down. They are such an inspiration to me. Tonight I'm going to spend the evening with our friend Susanne helping her get things ready for our ESA state convention next week. I had promised her when Larry was so sick that I would go with her to this if he wasn't up to it, and I will. I'll be staying at night with my son and DDIL while in Dallas, and that will be the only time I'll get to see them while there, but it's better than nothing! Dee, I hope they don't dump too much extra work onto you. Time for another cruise, isn't it? LOL I'm going to see my granddaughters and son and DDIL tomorrow after cohosting a youth banjo concert at our church. Pray for me in the morning because I have to bake 5 dozen chocolate chip cookies!!!!! The doorbell just rang, and it was FedEx with a gift from oldest Dson and DDIL - 3 living, blooming African violets and a wooden collector's box. My DDIL really knows me well and Dson always trusts her taste. If I don't get a chance to post tomorrow or Sunday, I wish everyone here a Happy Mother's Day, whether you're a bio-mom, stepmom, or furbaby mom!

Hi guys! I'm here again. Already been to a Scottish Highlands celebration---VERY FUN! and an airshow---big stuff here---very talented pilots! "Big" earthquake wasn't anywhere around here, but there are frequent earthquakes in this area. The REAL threat is the mosquitoes! YIIIIII! I bought HUGE citronella candles, DEET spray, and citronella plants---and STILL they come! Combatting the bugs is a joke and constant hobby here. I was potting some plants for my porch yesterday and thought I was going CRAZY--getting bitten and buzzed out there! I will take my large candles with me next time! The greenhouses here are very casual and freely run. The plants are mondo sized and CHEAP! Nearly everything is under 10 bucks. It's downright dangerous for me! lol. QOD: the 4th: We're headed out to a small fishing village that has a gigantic celebration on the 4th. It's a 5 hour drive and then a ferry ride, but I'm told it's worth it, so off we go! Then coming back to a family casual dinner with all Americano food probably--kosher dogs, salad, and whatever else people bring. Tikanas~ I am STRICT about keeping a food diary and try to eat healthy choices; lots of fiber and veggies and VARIETY! I don't eat a huge amount of protein-usually only for dinner-and an occasional egg for brekky. I was weighing in every day at home and then once a week at Weight Watchers, but since I arrived here for the summer, I have not weighed. I probably will cave and buy a house scale and there's a WW place nearby, so I will start weighing in again. I use the scale and book from WW to keep myself accountable to someone! I have lost a large amount of weight since October- about 25 pounds or so. It is a SLOW weight loss (about 2 or 3 ponuds a month), but it's finally staying off and no big fluxuations any more, so I'm finding this to be the way for me to go. Well, we are having a guy DH met over for dinner tonight. He's Korean and homesick, so I am making Korean BBQ, rice, and cabage salad with sesame oil and chili oil. I better get hopping tho', cause I have to marinate the beef! I'll check in tomorrow! Magickitty~ Up, up, and away with the restart! Take Marci's hand and go for it! Hi! I am here, just in a funk and slowly coming out of it. DD moved last week to Lousiana and it hit home that I now officially have an empty nest. At least while she was at school, I knew she could come home any weekend she chose. Lousianna is just so FAR away. But they made it safely (in a U-Haul towing her car!) and I have kept in touch with her almost daily. So the comunication is there, but I miss her. I have been keeping busy reading, scrapbooking and cleaning out DD's empty room. It has been so HOT here, that I have been content to stay inside with the AC on. It is supposed to be nicer tomorrow and I am going with DH to a car show (he will drive his 62 Nova). Besh - I have read so many books this summer that I would have a hard time listing them all. I did read "The Glass Castle" and loved your comment about it being a "real" memoir! LOL I too thought it was an amazing book and marveled that she and her siblings survived at all. I am reading "Thunderstruck" by Erik Larson right now. I love his writing and attention to detail. I also read "Isacc's Storm" and "The Devil in the White City". He must do an incredible amount of research before he starts a book. I just finished listening to "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer. I have to say I cried. Other notable recent reads are, "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen, "Left to Tell" (about the genocide in Rwanda) by Immaculee Ilibagzia, and "The Butterfly House" by Marcia Preston. Next up, "Lean Mean Thirteen" by Janet Evanovich. DeeMarie - I have been doing exercises to strengthn my back and keep the muscles stretched and it seems to be helping. I can't sit for too long at the computer, so I haven't been logging on as often as I used to. I can't even sit and read for too long without needing to get up and stretch and move around. I love getting books on tape at the library and listening to them where ever I am. I am considering getting an MP3 player and using my library's resources to download books. Have you read LM13 yet?? Jen - Poor Erica! One time my DS broke his finger and I didn't take him to the doctor's until the next day. He also needed 2 pins to reset the finger. I felt like the worst mother of the year that day. Glad to hear she is on the mend. Patti - Glad Dave got a good report and you can go forward with your trip to TX. I never did get to see those pictures of your DGD! If you get a chance, email me. NHSuzanne - We had such severe storms the last few days too. Trees down in the neighborhood all around me, but we didn't suffer any damage. I am glad you got the brakes fixed and were able to go to VT. I don't have much of a backyard, but I did get some pictures of our local wildlife last week. Can you tell what this is a picture of? DH's is letting me know he is hungry, so I am off to the kitchen. Good morning! I've been up since way-too-early-for-me-usually. LOL I was invited to visit the Methodist church here in town, so I went to the 8:30 service, then attended my friend's Sunday school class. I felt right at home even though it's been 40 years since I last attended a Methodist service. Ironically enough, all the hymns today were old familiars to me! I enjoyed the women's Sunday school class, too. I'll definitely return next week if all goes well around here. McPeg, so glad to read that you're healing inside and out. I think it's natural to remember things about your mom. My mom passed away almost 9 years ago, and there are times when I feel like it was just the other month. Memories are sometimes painful, but mostly, they're cozy and comforting. Patti, sounds like you had another good crafting weekend! I need to pack my bag with my tools for this afternoon's card-making class. I'm so looking forward to going, learning new techniques, and making new friends. This making-new-friends business is really growing on me, and I'm very thankful. Internet friends have always been so special to me, but it's nice to have RL friends, too. Today is the beginning of 2+ weeks of keeping grandchildren. (until the 15th of July) Aubrie and I are going to have such good bonding time together, something we've never really had before now. (Alexis comes to stay beginning next Sunday.) Today at church, I was introduced to the nursery lady in case I decide to take Aubrie with me next week, just for a change of pace. She may miss being around other children, so it's nice to know I have that option. QOD: Is there an area in your life that you would like to unload to help you with your goal? I think forgiving is a tough one for me to let go. I did great being around my xh and his wife at my son's wedding last fall, but it wasn't easy. We're supposed to have lunch with them next Sunday, and a tiny part of me felt angst when I heard about it, I have to admit. I am trying to grow up finally at age 60, but there's this small child in me who feels that until someone says "I'm sorry", it's not official. Silly, I know, but there it is! I have let go of much of my past resentments since moving here, and coincidentally or not, my desire to lose weight began around the same time. Maybe that Peter Walsh book, "Does this clutter make my butt look fat?" really pegged it. Sending restful, peaceful Sunday wishes to everyone. Have a great one!

Good Evening!

Besh - Nice picture of your family! Where did you have your Birthday dinner?

One of the gals I work with quit and her last day is Friday. I am bummed about it cause she is a real nice gal and was fun to talk to and work with. I don't know if you remember a few months back, I was having problems with another co-worker, well, she is the main reason this great gal is leaving. It is sad. She has had an exit interview with one of the owners already so I am hoping some changes will be made, but I doubt it since these reasons have been brought to the owners attention again and again. So it is one of those take it or leave it situations. I am taking it for now until I become her target again.

Enough of my whinning!

Where are the MIAs? Come on out and make this a birthday WEEK for good 'old' Besh! lol!!

Work has been hectic. I took off last Friday and Monday, but it feels like a week away with all the projects that piled up in 2 days. Whew!!!!

Still have not had enough exercise and I'm feeling it big time. My MRI results came back and the doc said it's "spinal stenosis". He wants to see me in person on the 6th to go over treatment. I know this is a common disease, but I really need to be able to get back into a program that will help me lose this weight.

Lynn, sorry about your work problems. It is so hard when one person can ruin it for all. I have been in that situation a few times and it makes it hard to get up in the morning. Thanks, I thought it was a good picture too. That was taken at a restaurant called Fishbones in Newport News, VA. Really nice place, but I would have been happy any place as long as I got to celebrate with my family!

Dee, what is spinal stenosis? Sounds scary, but I am hoping that it is not.

DH is still on vacation this week. Yesterday we did a day trip to Provincetown. We took DS and 3 of his friends. I love it down there. Today we are going out on the boat and doing some fishing. DH will probably fish, I will read and get some sun. :-)

Speaking of exercise, we put in 400 bales of hay on Tuesday! Great work out.......and I feel it. Only 100 to go now.

Besh, you must be getting mighty brown with all that boating! I love Provincetown too. I have been to a Fishbones restaurant in Virgina before - it was good.

Dee, what is spinal stenosis? Is it preventing you from exercising? What causes it?

Lynn, it's hard to lose a pal at work. Too bad for the unfortunate circumstances. One rotten apple.

I'm sorry I haven't had time to post this week. Busy, busy, busy. It has been a lot of work and a lot of play for me.

Suzanne - that little peep is something that you would find and BJ would love it. Believe me I am always working on manifesting that million dollars LOL.

Besh - I was going to ask you if you had been to P-town yet this summer. My friends want us to join them at the Cape this fall. Beautiful picture of you and your family, thanks for sharing.

Dee - I have heard of spinal stenois before but I'm not sure what it is. Fill us in.

Donna - a beautiful sunset can bring tears to my eyes. We have mountains here that block most of our sunsets, but when we get a good one it is special.

QOD - We have had friends from FL up and that has kept us very busy. DD#2 is coming home tonight, and if the weather cooperates all our free time will be on the lake.

BJ, come back and eat some peeps with us!

QOD: Tonight we have dinner at MIL. Should be a diet disaster again (never any green on the plate...all carbs and protein). Tomorrow we are supposed to help out at the annual hot air balloon festival. We usually have a party of about 30 on the airfield from 6am until about 10pm. Exhausting day if it's hot, but it's supposed to rain, so who knows if it's cancelled. I know that I made enough sausage, peppers and onions for 50 people! That's a lot of freezer space if we don't go, so let me know if you all want to come by and I'll get fresh Italian rolls and some red wine. Yahooooo!!! Sunday should be another day or working (painting) our master bath.

Beautiful balloon Dee. We used to go to a balloon festival every year in Gilmanton, NH. Every year that we went it was too windy and the balloons never went up in the air so we stopped going. I am sure it is quite a site.

I miss BJ too. I think about her all the time and wish she would come back. BJ if you are lurking, please know that your insight and your humor is missed.

Raeanne, I love the Cape in the fall. Less traffic and tourists and everything is still open. Go for it. Try to go to P-town if you can. A great place to start your Christmas shopping.

I went to WW today. I gained 5# during vacation! Time to get serious again.

QOD: Tomorrow I am in a fishing tournament with DH and 2 of my girlfriends. Just the girls are fishing and DH will be our "Boat B**ch"!

Dee, I will join you for sausage and peppers! Yum. I am starving now it's worse! Have fun -hope the rain doesn't ruin your day.............I am imagining you at 6:00 am on a big field grilling sausage and pepper subs!! LOL You still have to fill us in on the spinal stenosis.

Besh, have fun on the boat. How fun to have your very own Boat B**ch!! I hope your weather cooperates. The Cape is fun in the fall - much more so than right now!

Raeanne, I wondered what happened to you! You are usually so busy entertaining! Hope you enjoy your weekend.

I have no plans but if it isn't raining I have to do some field mowing........again. The fun just never ends around here!

Hi all,

I've included the link to spinal stenosis below. Nothing unusual; just old age and extra weight!

Well, the day of ballooning was hot, Hot, HOT!!! Did I mention Hot? OMG, we were supposed to get thunderstorms and we were praying for them, but just sun and humidity. It was, of course, in an air field so not much relief. Not much wind, so that balloons literally hung up in the air above us and came back down right in the air field, so not much "chasing" to do. Spectacular sight. Blues traveller played at night and than fireworks. We had loads of fun, ate too much, and were exhausted when we got home after 11pm.

Got laundry going (3rd load!), so must get to it.

Dee - the ballooning sounds great. DH and I hope to take a ride in October in Napa, CA. I really like the band Blues Traveler that you heard!

That brings me to ask Tikanas to come out and say Hello!!!! DH and I will be in CA in October....SF, Napa, Tracey and Sacramento......are you anywhere near these cities???

I am off to do Laundry and take a quick dip in the pool before I watch Big Brother 8. Yes, I am hooked.
