Any florists out there?

The gardening club I run at my school is growing 40 pots of zinnias for a big event. I'd like to buy speed covers (those preformed colourful foil pot covers) for them, but there is no where in our town that sells to the public. I can order online, but was hoping to get a suggestion for a reputable site that ships quickly. Any ideas? Other suggestions on covering the basic (ugly) plastic pots would be appreciated too. Thanks!

How about cellophane in a variety of colors and use twine or raffia to hold tight to pot?

For a quick pretty, add some colorful decorative masking tape on the pots.

Are these for decor or to sell? I'm going to plant the miniature Zinnias this year because they grow profusely here.

Speaking of Garden Clubs, our GC bit the dust this week. I was an original member. Sad.

Yes, charge a delivery fee. I have a florist that instists on it. They charge their customers a delivery fee. Make sure you tell your customers up front. If you have two deliveries in the same town and you can deliver the same day then maybe you can give them a break on the fee. I would tell them that if they wait until a certain day and time it would save them $5 on delivery I'm sure that they would be happy. KB

eaj - you are getting the results of the relocation shock. Your gloxinia was grown in a greenhouse with high humidity and cotrolled temperature, got sprayed and fertilized on time. It started blooming - and got packed in a dark box, moved across the states, was displayed in a store - in less than perfect conditions - may be was not watered for some time...Got infected with thrips - and they got into the bloom and into the unopened buds. Then you sprayed it. So basically it is suffering from the shock. You take care of your plant, I would remove the blasted buds so the plant wouldn't spend energy on them. Fertilize it with a weak solution of AV fertilizer. Eventually it will go into dormancy - and after it wakes up again - it will be happy to be adjusted to your house - and will be blooming its head off. Since you grow AVs - just imagine - you went to a Show, saw a gorgeous show plant 20" diameter, 100 blooms, you fell in love with it, found the owner - and got yourself a plant. Do you expect it to stay gorgeous for you? The peak of bloom was achieved at th Show - now it needs to rest. What you got - a florist gloxinia forced to bloom its best at the moment of sale. Hi, qshopper and gadgets, Guess I forgot to say that I DO fund my Roth IRA faithfully, for the full amount, annually. Thankfully, someone wiser than I set me up with a TSA person years ago. Of course, after a while, that person's quote of "they don't put teachers in jail" made me wonder just what kinds of monkey business he was doing with my money, so I got a new TSA person. I'm always telling new teachers to pay themselves first by getting a TSA. I'm still trying to get my sister to set one up, but oh, she is soooo busy! Well, now she's 48 and maybe she thinks she's gonna win the lottery, but really, that's not likely! I was wondering about dollar cost averaging and investing in no-load funds--stuff I can do myself, and wondered if anyone else had some advice about things like that...I just learning and one of my cyberpals is talking me thru it...just wondered what everyone else may know... You could wrap them in burlap & tie with a ribbon, or make wrappers from scrapbook paper & ribbon. I've seen adorable pot covers made that way.

Great ideas all. The kids are doing it so it has to be pretty easy. I'm thinking maybe cellophane. I'll buy a roll and try it. Our dollar store also has rolls of tulle right now. I could get a lot cheap and would probably look nice tying up the cellophane. If the pots are too visible thru the cellophane, maybe we could wrap them first in the scrapbook paper. I'm worried about doing scrapbook paper on its own in case it got wrecked with the watering (10 year old helpers don't make for the neatest greenhouse). Thanks for the help. These ideas are cheaper than the speed covers and that's always good.

How about downloading some pix of zinnias and zinnia seed packets (or photocopy real seed packets), have the kids cut them out and glue onto the pots with ModPodge? Just a few, randomly placed around the pot will do it.

Then wrap raffia around the collar of the pot, if there is one, and knot the ends, and trim.

les, I'm going to keep that idea in mind for next year. We've already planted the pots for this year and it would be pretty hard for them to do it now. I think that would look great. We could even do it with nice scrapbook paper.
