Well, as an afterthought (duh!!) i googled it and one site said that it's just genetic for some breeds and/or it could be due to being obese in the past OR pregnancy. since hers is so large and she's so pretty i'm wondering if she was used for breeding and she's actually an older lady. Hi Tom, I can tell which ones I started by seeds and as soon as they bloom, I do tag them. Others I get from other people and those I have to wait until they do bloom but with all of the ones that I have I still have lots of flowers to enjoy. I have bought mystery ones from a few people online and those I had to wait also, and then tag them. We had the pool a long time and finally it got to the point that I could spend twice as much and have it repaved and replace the tile or we could fill it. I called around and each city had different rules but at least this city it was very easy to have it filled. A neighbor down the street gave me a good deal and the rest is history. Now I have much more room to enjoy my plants. Barb

Thanks guys. I wanted some confirmation that it was what it was because it doesn't look like the oranges pictured in the research paper. I had a feeling the taste was due to the age, but the size and nipple threw me off, as did the bumpy texture of the fruit. Both fruits were identical to the one pictured. Does the Miho really get that big? It really is nearly the size of a navel orange. I used to have an Owari, it unfortunately died due to a surprise overnight frost outside, but the size comparison is night and day to these guys. Owari had cute little guys that fit nice and snug in the palm of my hand. As for ripeness and overripeness, the pictured satsuma was almost half green just a few days ago. Also, my Owari had its absolute best fruit right about now. December is a perfectly good time to pick Satsumas here in north Texas in my experience, and the extra cold gives them a great flavour. My Owari was the best orange I had ever tasted. I hope the Miho is as good.
