Goodies from Peppi, Annie and Linda

Last week I received some extra special goodies from some friends on the CF. I've been a little under the weather with having an Anterior Cervical Fusion with Dissection. Fancy smancy name for fixing a broken neck! I really feel good/better than I did before the surgery.

Linda (doucanoe) is our resident crafter that makes the most beautiful things. She made this card! It's just beautiful! I've recieved a very special angel she made from stain glass before. I'm not a crafter so I appreciate the patience and time that goes into such things.

Next came Peppi's surcie! I've never seen anything like this. I'm now doing my part of being green and thrifty at the same time. It's a ziplock/glad bag drier. You wash your bags out and hang them to dry on the rack! So cool. And of course the chocolate (already gone) Charles says thanks! But my favorite is the silver bell. I have been using to call my DH to do for me :-) At this present time I can't pick up any thing except a newspaper and a cup of coffee. Heck, I'm already board but it's fun to see him peeking around the corner after I ring the bell.

Next is a Apple wine from Annie and Elery. It has a bit of maple syrup in it. YUM! I put it in the back of the beverage fridge hoping no one else finds it. When I can cook again I have it with a special dessert and I'll be sure to post pics.

Thank you my friends for brightening my down time. I'll enjoy each and every thing. The pictues may be dark but I don't know how to lighten them. I hope you can se how generous our friends are. I think I may frame Lindas card and put it in my bathroom. The picture does not do it justice.

Here you go. This recipe is super easy and delicious. My British DH loves these, he does not however like most scones you can buy. Too dry. 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup dried fruit chopped (I use dried tart cherries) 1 1/4 cups heavy cream Glaze: I never use the glaze. It would just compete with the jam I might put on 3 tablespoons butter, melted 2 tablespoons sugar Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Use an ungreased baking sheet. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl, stirring with a fork to mix well. Add the dried apricots. Still using a fork, stir in the cream and mix until the dough holds together in a rough mass (the dough will be quite sticky). Lightly flour a board and transfer the dough to it. Knead the dough 8 or 9 times. Pat into a circles about 10 inches round. For the glaze, spread the butter over the top and side of the circle of dough and sprinkle the sugar on top. Cut the circle into 12 wedges and place each piece on the baking sheet, allowing about an inch between pieces. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown -Robin

That bowl is so cool. Talk about the perfect thing to cook a chicken in. I'll buy one in a heartbeat if I ever see one. I had to laugh when I saw the magazines. My best friend in tech school when I was in the service was from Sandpoint. He and I had my only involuntary visit to a police station in Lake Village Arkansas in 1975. If your ever there don't flash your high beams at a Chicot County police officer. Very nice package Katie.

I'm so glad it made it all in one piece! The bean pots didn't have boxes, so I was concerned that between those and the glass maple syrup bottles we might have some breakage, and a mess!! Glad the mess was avoided :-) So, no, I didn't cheat! Really. My your choice category was "New England Foods" - so Indian Pudding and Maple Syrup. That's one item. (Let's pretend you eat them together LOL!!! ) The grades of maple syrup are: Vermont Fancy Vermont Grade A Medium Amber Vermont Grade A Dark Amber Vermont Grade B you can get more info on the Vermont grades (which I guess are different from other maple syrup grades?) at this link: Vermont Maple Syrup Grades and Jessy, I thought about the beano, but I figured Gina could take care of that herself... or use one of the non-bean recipes in the cookbook! Indian pudding is a baked custard with milk, butter, molasses, eggs, spices, and cornmeal. Here's more info and a recipe for it... Indian Pudding. I've only had this canned variety... cooked in a double boiler. and if I had a dog, I'd want those bowls, too. Target, can you believe it?? Yes, I admit that I wash and reuse the plastic bags, and my kids tease me incessantly about it. I usually hung them over the kitchen faucet or over Diet Coke bottles in the sink. It never dawned on any of them that the "gadget" might actually BE for drying plastic bags! Makayla thought it would be a good fence for her toy horses, that's my farm girl. (grin) Bruvver thought it was a lot of hammers, he could pound on lots of stuff. So you see, Peppi, you didn't just send a single use item, it can be used for LOTS of things. Elery thought it would be a good device to "store clean socks". I asked what in the heck was wrong with the drawer? Amanda said it would also be good to wrap string or yarn around to keep it from tangling or storing it to reuse it. Hmmmmm.... How many other things could this be used for, do you think? Annie

Karen, I'm telling you, that wine is for breakfast, with beignets, LOL, Elery says it "needs pancakes" but I liked it. (grin)

I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm really glad that bottle got there unbroken, I was a little concerned.

I'm still laughing at the bell to "summon the staff". (snicker)

Let yourself heal so you are up to playing again. Are Maggie kisses helping?

Annie, I know what Elery means. Just tell me sweet wine and the headache starts.

And frame that card from Linda, it is wonderful. I too was lucky enough to have some of her glass work as a hummingbird feeder after Mom died. It is gorgeous.
