A surprise from Peppi

Yes, I got a package in the mail from Peppi, she sent me an item that she said was supposed to come to Michigan with me for my wedding "party", but she got flooded in Illinois and didn't make it.

Although she mentioned it could be used as a mitten dryer, Elery, Ashley, Ashley's boyfriend Adam, Amanda, David and I all tried to think of uses for the device.

Amanda mentioned that I could hang my bras and pantyhose over it to dry, instead of over the shower rod, LOL. David thought perhaps very frugal people could reuse condoms, rinsing them out and hanging them to dry. (Ewwww...). Ashley thinks it could be used as a loom, but I didn't think so, so she sugggested maybe a wine rack. Huh???

Elery even tried using it, he thought it would make a good pasta drying rack, LOL:

I finally broke down and told them that the purpose for this particular device was to dry plastic bags, the sandwich or ziplock type, so they could be washed and reused. I even demonstrated:

Thank you, Peppi, you've provided a useful device, but also a very entertaining afternoon of suggestions for the use of it. (grin) I only mentioned the really printable ones.....

LOL @ David!! I wash and reuse bags all the time depending on what I've used them for. I get laughed at by most of my group. Oh well, Mom says I'm too much like my DGM...a pack rat for sure..I save everything it seems. Just like canning jars, I asked for my bags back when sharing baked goods. LOL

I want to hear about the ones that were not printable...I can only imagine given what you've shared here.

Nice surprise Peppi...entertaining to boot!

Annie, as always you seem to be the cornerstone of visits and arrangements. Peppi...awwwww. Well we'll be at Residence Inn Chicago Downtown/River North on North Dearborn so if your plans change, give us a call. But Sherry...baby that new job while you can. I am so glad it came thru when it did. btw, at the BlogHer conference I just attended, I met a life coach who lives in Michigan. She really is dynamic and I liked her a lot. I hope to meet up with her again - potentially at an Inaguration. Your recipe is the same as mine. But to clarify.... -the mustard is Dijon -the pickle is a kosher dill, whole and then quartered for easier rolling -the onions are sliced and then I cook them a bit in the micro to soften. Makes rolling easier. -when braising I add extra onions. I had close friends over for them about 6 weeks ago. This women said (swore) she had my Mothers recipe so 2 weeks later we were at her house for rouladen. Turns out my Mom gave her a recipe where the sauce has tomato paste and nutmeg added. Both Dad and I know Mom never made them that way but I did find the recipe in one of her old German cook books. They were OK, but not my Moms. I guess Mom was more devious than I thought.

It is crazy. We were so wet, and flooding, and with fungal and bacterial diseases breaking out on every shrub, tree, weed and grass. Now the green has gone brown and dry. This happened a few years back. I think it was in the summer of 2008. We'd had all that rain (and flooding, sound familiar?) in 2007 and the 2008 started out pretty decently. We seemed green and wet and it was nice enough, and then it was like we hit a brick wall and suddenly were hot and dry. This month reminds me very much of that year, and from what I remember of 2008, we ended up miserably hot, dry and back in drought with tons of wildfires through April 2009. I really don't want for this year to end up like that year did. I did water the garden today. I left the gate open and the chickens were all over the place. They like the damp mulch, and they weren't really bothering anything. Since I've been letting them into the garden for a few hours a day, the grasshoppers are disappearing. If they start pecking tomatoes (which they haven't done at all yet), then I'll have to keep the gate closed and ban the poultry from the garden.

Great gift, and love the thoughts behind the usage of it..lol. I rewash my bags all the time, and that is one handy little gadget.

That's such a nice thoughtful present and very clever. I wash the zip-lock bags and have them hanging on the kitchen faucet, the paper towel holder and the handles for the faucet. I need one of these!

Nice suggestions -- excpet one! Best not to reuse those if you want them to do their job!

Annie, I am glad it made for some fun conversation, but David, teh SIL, needs a good whack on the head! Wine rack? You got short pantyhose? But I like the pasta idea, which I will share with the family of the gentleman that made them for me.

I was drying my foodsaver bags on empty wine bottle and the faucet when I saw this at my freinds house. She told me to sweet talk her DH into making them for me.

Condom dryer? Not unless the Brudder and the Monkey Princess want a sibling!

I like the pasta rack idea also. I have to admit that I also reuse plastic bags, and in Mexico it is common practice to wash plastic bags and reuse them. I think that's where I got the idea.

I've been drying my pasta on a broomstick propped between two chairs!

Yes, I admit that I wash and reuse the plastic bags, and my kids tease me incessantly about it. I usually hung them over the kitchen faucet or over Diet Coke bottles in the sink. It never dawned on any of them that the "gadget" might actually BE for drying plastic bags!

Makayla thought it would be a good fence for her toy horses, that's my farm girl. (grin) Bruvver thought it was a lot of hammers, he could pound on lots of stuff.

So you see, Peppi, you didn't just send a single use item, it can be used for LOTS of things. Elery thought it would be a good device to "store clean socks". I asked what in the heck was wrong with the drawer? Amanda said it would also be good to wrap string or yarn around to keep it from tangling or storing it to reuse it. Hmmmmm....

How many other things could this be used for, do you think?

Hey, I got one too! Peppi sent it to me a couple of weeks ago as part of a get well package.I love it but have to admit I didn't think about using the "thing" as a pasta rack! Great idea. I guess I could dry my socks on it right along side the bags!

It should be noted, without confusion, that this is a Annie1992 generated thread. We Annies of an older generation are wearing our pink Maimie Eisenhower earmuffs! (Except for those of us who are somewhere in between and are caught up in the baby boomer/hippy era -- right on Annie!! Use it for whatever!)

I have to say that I knew as soon as I opened my thoughtful package from Peppi that it was a bag dryer. I thought that perhaps I had mentioned to her that I have been reusing bags lately, especially FoodSavers.

Annie's family members are more creative than Raymond; he thought it was a bed frame for Lily's dolly.

What a cool gift! I love the imaginative ides for it's use! And I know I am not the only one that thinks David's idea was the MOST imaginative! LOL (He sounds like my kind of guy!)

I am another that washes and reuses bags, and like most of you I have them hanging on my faucet and anything else that will hold them!
