I initiated a post on the Cooking forum regarding a yogourt I started to eat (Yoplait Source) a while back, and thought this info may be of interest here. A portion of one of my previous posts is included as a disclaimer.

"I've been researching what yogourt was all about and found the interesting article linked below. You can disregard any inference that it's only Yoplait that gives the benefit, but if the concept is factual, this is good to know for people working on weight control."

Interesting article naturelle. Okay I confess, I have never been able to eat yogurt so is this Yoplait Souce much better? I would really like to find a yogurt I could eat.

Beverly, here's what I posted earlier. The words in parenthesis I just added. I was always aware that yogourt was supposed to be good for you, as I referenced the really old people in the Balkans or Siberia, and the digestive benefits in the thread.

I have never been a big fan of yogourt, and I saw other people loading up on yogourt and have always thought I was missing something good. I have had various types previously from time to time, but the taste never appealed to me.
Out of impulse (and reading the packaging which suggested what I thought was good stuff), I bought Yoplait Source, but did not expect much. I figured this was my once every 5 years experiment with yogourt and would not even finish the package. It comes in a four pack, blueberry and peach at bottom. Well, it was really good.

I have never been on a diet, so I really don't know what all this means, or if it's all good, but here's the nutritional info:

Energy: 73 cal
Protein: 4.1 g
Fat: 0.1%
Carb: 13.9 g
Sucralose: 17.1 mg
Calcium: 13%
Vitamin A 6%
Vitamin D 17%

Splenda not Aspartame

Too much calories? carbs? anything else? The package says it's endorsed by The Diabetic Association. The one thing I do kind of watch for in my foods is fat, and particularly the saturated fats, and the 0.1% seems to be pretty good. I'm wondering if plain non-fat yogourt (which I can't stand)is totally non-fat, ie. 0%.

All I know is, this is better tasting than any yogourt I had before. It fills the bill for a quick snack and I now have one a day. I'm lactose intolerant, but yogourt never adversely affected me the few times I had it, or at least not to the degree to cause distress.

I will also add that the portions are a nice size to make for a light, but satisfying snack in the afternoon or evening. The fruit part is nice too.

I live the Virgin diet every day. It should be called the Virgin Lifestyle. This is a good diet for people with intolerances and who have a very difficult time losing weight, but it's great for everyone I think because it makes complete sense and is super natural. It's a ten-week plan to lose weight and discover intolerances. Take out 7 foods for three weeks then reintroduce them one at a time for the next seven weeks. Below I've explained the reasons for taking out these 7 foods. Gluten: contains lectins that bind to insulin, which creates insulin resistance and can make your blood sugars rise, making it hard to lose weight. Gluten is also an inflammatory. Soy: a phyto-estrogen, a plant source of the hormone estrogen. It's also heavily genetically modified. Dairy: like gluten, acts as an isulin resistant. It's nearly impossible to find hormone-free milk. So, hormones and rising blood sugar=acne and fat. There are studies out there that show countries with the highest dairy consumption have the highest levels of osteoporosis. On the contrary, countries that rely on calcium rich foods have a much lower rate of osteoporosis. I've read that the pasturization process of milk breaks down the protein that allows our bodies to absorb the calcium. I believe all this but there is still a huge debate about it. Corn: inflammatory and a high-glycemic food Peanuts: inflammatory and high in lectins. Eggs: inflammatory. If you have sensitivity to corn and soy, eggs might affect you because the chickens are probably fed corn and soy. I have a huge intolerance to fat so another reason eggs bother me. Sugar: we all know that's bad! And don't be fooled by agave necter...higher in fructose than high fructose corn syrup. I'm 5'8 and was 148 lbs. I'm now 135 and holding. In two weeks, my injured knee from subluxation over a year before wasn't hurting and felt stronger. My ankles reduced by 1/2 inch, something I thought was genetic but I guess was just excess fluid. I never really had bad acne, but what I did have cleared up and my blackheads reduced significantly. Also, my menstrual cycle went from seven days to three. My head felt clearer and I had more energy. I rarely have wind or bloated belly as well. The cellulite on my legs reduced by about 50%. I made a point to not exercise the first three weeks to see how effective just changing my diet was. ALL these changes happened without exercise, though of course after the three weeks I went back to yoga. I don't think everyone needs to cut out all of these foods. I also know some people won't have as many changes as I did. But I don't see how it will hurt to try, just to see what changes might happen to you! I think JJ knows what she's talking about. In regards to sticking to it, I cheat every once in a while but I usually feel so bad when I do that I find myself cheating a lot less. Good luck!

Unbelievable! Moo had an ultrasound yesterday. I left him for the day and picked him up late, after work. My vet had the day off so I was told she'd call me first thing this morning. The phone call of doom in my mind. She finally called while I was sitting in traffic this morning. The Ultrasound came back FINE! No tumors, No cysts on the Kidneys, No Obstructions. The urinalysis also came back fine although with a little unexplained suger. I think its those darn Party Mix treats he loves so much, and I give him all the time. (I know, I know but I thought it was his last supper!) I can't believe what wonderful news this is. I cried anyway. So now I still have the problem. Why would he be loosing too much weight? Could it be from switching dry foods a lot this year? Purina one Chicken and rice, to Prescription allergy formula from the vet, to Nupro weight loss formula (I have a very fat cat too)and when Moo got sick, I went back to Purina Chicken and rice. And what caused him to have such a high fever on Saturday? I have to stay in my office all day before going home and giving him the biggest kiss and hug. (NO PARTY MIX!) I have to keep a close eye on him and make sure he gains and not looses the weight. The vet is going to give me another dry food to try to prevent any stomach upset.

Mtn-- I missed your post above until just now. I had very similar experiences through covid-- and they mostly went unnoticed because for a good portion of the pandemic, I was 120% focused on work. I was not nearly as active-- I was indifferent to food and inconsistent with my meals (very likely the reason i lost weight). I didn't take a shower or get dressed every day and I didn't have good sleep patterns -- I would fall asleep around midnight, if i was lucky and then back up and working by 5am. This pattern continues to some degree even now. I never really experienced either depression or anxiety in my past but I definitely had mild forms of both through the pandemic-- and recently a short run with anxiety again. Like Mtn, I didn't know the signs to recognize it or see it creeping in. I think my disinterest in food was likely a sign-- also my inability to sleep or focus on reading. I know now, in hindsight, that when i turn to a run of mysteries, it's a sign that I am not doing my best. Mysteries are my comfort food. My hope is that eating well and taking better care of my sleep and physical self will make me less likely to experience the anxiety and mood shifts. Kswl's post really struck me-- of course, she has more serious challenges and concerns with her DH's and mother's health issues but she is right. Now is the time to take good care of ourselves so that we can face the challenges ahead-- our own and those our dear ones and our communities are facing. THIS keeps me much more motivated right now than anything. (Also the jeans in another size smaller that are waiting for me to try on!)

All weight loss comes from eating less calories than you burn. That is it. HOW one goes about doing that doesn't matter. Weight loss meds suppress your appetite, often to the point of queasiness. in order to reduce food intake, creating a calorie deficit, and therefore weight loss. Doesn't really matter the number. If you are not losing weight, you need to reduce your intake. There is a terrible genetic condition that is called Prada-Willi Syndrome. This condition is doubly cruel. It causes the afflicted to always, and I mean always, feel starving. They go to extreme lengths to get food. They eat out of the trash, eat non food items, steal, whatever. There are a number of cases in which the person afflicted has literally eaten themselves to death, by eating and eating until their stomach burst. To add to the horror, these people usually only need half of the calories an average person without the condition needs. An adult woman with this syndrome only needs 800-900 calories a day to maintain their weight. You can see how a combination of these factors would cause these people to be overweight. There is a facility in the UK, called Haydock house, which is a residential home for people with Prada Willi syndrome. They have a REMARKABLE record of reducing and maintaining the weight of these people. You know how they do it? You're not gonna believe it........ They do it by monitoring their calorie intake and encouraging physical activity. I know, SHOCKING right?!?!? If the people saddled with this horrible condition are able to lose weight, anyone can. Sorry about it. While I understand there are some people who blame trauma or mental illness or whatever on their inability to control their food intake, it is my position that there comes a time to grow up and get help. If you are unwillingly to do that, its not a valid excuse. And yes, I take the same position for other harmful addictions. It is YOUR responsibility as an adult to handle your own problems. Obesity in particular is not just a personal problem. It is a burden on the healthcare system, a burden on society, a burden on the environment. Its a huge problem. I also think that in a decade or so, the adverse affects of using meds like Ozempic ones body does not need just in order to lose weight till rear their ugly heads. And I think that the people who chose to use them instead of just not eating as much, should not be able to seek legal ramifications for whatever consequences come from it. Just like I do not think that people should be able to sue fast food places or junk food companies for them getting diabetes or heart disease.

I have read about that study before. I'm not a big fan of yogurt either, but I do like frozen yogurt and it contains the active ingredient. I bought banana split yogurt today. I'll have to try it out in a little while. LOL

MaryAnn, I also like frozen yogourt. Have you tried the various Gelatos, they are very good. It's Italian style ice cream I believe, iced milk instead of cream. The Neopolitan is classic, and there's the one with pistachio, I forget the name off hand. The reason I sought out the yogourt and the Gelato types is I like the ice cream idea, but I am lactose intolerant and these do not affect me. It does not hurt also that they have less fat also. But other than that, they have a clean refreshing taste, the real ice creams are way too rich tasting for me.

The fat amount in the Yoplait Source sounds just right. Now if I can only find some to try it. I looked at Target last night but they did not have that particular Yoplait. I will try other stores this weekend. Thanks for all the particulars Naturelle!
