Cost Plus, Inc. plans to close 26 of its World Market stores and exit eight markets. Cost Plus will still operate 270 stores in 98 markets covering 30 states following the store closings.

The eight media markets the Company plans to exit include: Cincinnati OH, Fort Lauderdale FL, Fort Wayne IN, Memphis TN, Minneapolis-St. Paul MN, Rochester MN, Omaha NE, and Rockford IL.

It's sad news for the cities losing stores because World Market carries some hard-to-find international gourmet items. Cost Plus also operates an online store at worldmarket.com but the gourmet items are only sold at its bricks-and-mortar locations.

Oh boy. I sure hope they don't close the stores here. I love that place. Wonderful wine selection - all price ranges. And yes, dishes, glasses, lots of interesting accessories and some gourmet foods. I've also bought jewelry and furniture there.

When we remodeled our kitchen I looked in a ton of furniture stores for the perfect bar stools. Ended up buying some "on back order" at one store even though they weren't perfect but the closest we could find. Then, serendipidously, we just happened to go to World Market one day, and there they were, in stock, the PERFECT bar stools. And they were about 2/3 the price of the ones we had ordered. Bought them on the spot and canceled the back order.

I better go there soon and spend some $$$ so they know they are appreciated!

They closed the store in the city we just moved from.

Their dark chocolate selection was pretty good. We bought a kidney shaped computer table from them and an outdoor planter. They also had some decent priced and smaller sized spice and herb collections.

They closed all their stores where we live. I miss them. :c(
