That's a loaded question. I love the Mission Revival style of the house. I love the big rooms. I love the big lot (I think). I love the view (I think - is that water on the other side of the park?)

Issues:

Layout - does it work for you? Do you have particular pieces of furniture that won't work? And would you mind covering a window with them?

Finishes - paint is easy, though not cheap or quick in a house that size. It looks like some of the flooring is a laminate (or is that in the garage apt?) How does that work for you? Kitchen(s) and bath(s) are rudimentary. How does that work for you?

Location - don't know if it is good or bad. Looks like it is close to the water. But it might be on a very busy road. And big front yards to me are useless. They look impressive, but just require care and get little use by pets, kids or adults. Is there a good rear or side yard that would work for your personal needs?

Rental Unit - Are you comfortable with a renter

I might! I also love the style of the house, and St. Petersburg is a great place. I was hoping our daughter would choose to go to Eckerd College there this fall so we could visit, but she didn't!

I'm not the one looking; a friend is. I wouldn't buy it and said so, but was curious about what others thought.

The floors are hardwood, not laminate. The bathrooms and kitchen + pantry will eventually be remodeled and enlarged. Closets will have to have built-ins. But for now, everything works.

I love open and bright rooms, but I'd like to have bookcases and shelving somewhere in my home in place of some windows. I'd like a BR with wallspace for a headboard and chest of drawers or armoire.

I don't care to be cut off from company when I'm in the kitchen and friends are in another room visiting while I'm cooking.

They'd only rent the apt for a year so the income could help off-set the remodeling costs.

I couldn't find any info on the room sizes, so I can't say for sure. I love all the windows, that would be a huge plus for me.

But the kitchen is horrible, and small. Everything would have to go in there,including the stainless steel appliances.

I don't mind being in a separate room when company is there, because it is usually only for a short time, and I am not a fan of major open concept spaces so that the kitchen(and the mess therein) is visible from the place where guests are eating or visiting.

It's not a style I would consider but I also don't like what's been done to the old place. Plastic floors, the painted facade, in green, the painted fireplaces, the kitchen. The windows are beautiful and it does have large airy rooms. No, I wouldn't want an apartment overhead for a number of reasons. But it's also just so darn big. So much to take care of generally, restoration aside. It has no charm or appeal to me but maybe for others it would. Seems most of the big old places in town around here have been turned into apartments.

I would absolutely buy it, in a heartbeat. I think it is completely livable and kind of cute in its current state, and could be positively spectacular if restored -- that sunroom on the side must be amazing inside!

I'm not a fan of the roof detailing - kind of castle like - but then again, it's definitely unique and I suspect it would grow on my after a while (especially if it wasn't mint green). I can't tell about the road - if it was busy, that would definitely give me pause, but if the house and lot were charming enough, I could deal with the road -- did it in my last house and, assuming I didn't have little kids/pets or could put in a good fence that wasn't hideous looking, I'd do it again for the right house.

I live in a house now with tons of windows on every exterior wall, but each room has at least one if not two or three interior walls as well -- there's plenty of space for tall furniture. I suspect this house would be the same way. Have you toured it in person?

I've toured it in person and the non-window walls in the Br's are closet walls.

The public rooms downstairs jut out so they also have windows on 3 walls and the other wall is an arched opening or framed double doorway to the adjoing room(s). It's quite difficult to explain the layout.

I think it's going to be a nightmare to figure out furniture arrangements.

The DR does have one windowless wall, but it has a built in storage closet at one end. So a china cabinet could go there, but the windows are so low in all of the rooms that even pieces like dressers and sofas and buffets are higher than the window sills.

I know the floors look like laminate,but they are real hardwood. The original tiles (1925) are cracked in places and some are missing, so those cannot be saved.

spring, the apartment is over the detached garage with a separate entrance at the side of the garage. It's not part of the house at all.

I haven't read the replies yet, but oh my gosh, it's almost identical to the house I grew up in on the outside (except for the fancy stone work), even the placement of the windows!

We had NO problem with furniture placement. In the summer I'd move my bedroom downstairs to the room with nothing but windows. I loved it! Mom kept a twin bed in there, and I'd take it over each summer. I loved the light!

Heck yeah I'd buy it. I still dream about the house I grew up in it was that great!

Oh, and see the front second story in the picture? "That" whole side of the upper story was my parents bedroom, and me and my friends would climb out their window when they weren't home and just sit on the roof. lol

Oakleyok, "that" is the MB and it spans the entire front facade of the home. What did you do about tall pieces of furniture? And bookcases?

I don't see any problems with furniture arrangements in that home. You can float the furniture, have bookcases under the windows. As for having the kitchen shut off from the entertainment area, I'm all for that. When I entertain, I have food prepared in advance or cooking away while I'm hosting. I don't find dirty pots and pans to be conducive to entertaining. I prefer to shut that away until the guests depart.

Not a fan of it. I, myself, would see problems with furniture layout. The types of furniture I like, that is. So, I'd pass. I'm not too hip on the exterior, seems a little over the top for me. But then again, my dream house is a Spanish Hacienda style.

Pictures 8, 9 and 10 are the ones that look to me like laminate flooring (look at the transition strip in the doorway). Maybe that's the garage apartment, but maybe not. Perhaps a portion of the house has had some laminate clicked down over damaged hardwood or subfloor.

Doesn't every room in that house have inside walls? That's where tall furniture goes.

I live in a house with a ton of windows on the exterior walls. Furniture placement is no problem at all - tall pieces are against inside walls.

At the time that home was built, the windows and the corresponding tree placement outside were the air conditioning system. One needed cross ventilation - windows provide it.

If I had the opportunity to buy that home, I'd restore (not rehab or renovate) the main living areas back to original and I would definitely get rid of the ugly kitchen but I would not knock out walls. The bathroom vanity would be history as well . I love that home and it has just the right number of original double hung wood windows!!

The living room had one unbroken wall (the only wall in the room that didn't have a door!) with a FP and built-in's on each side. In white. Loved it.

Tall furniture. I'm thinking here. Mom had a china cabinet in the DR. That room had 3 doorways. lol

The desk had an antique organ top on it which was high, and it sat on a short wall in the LR. She put high pieces on short walls, and floated the sofa in the LR, I remember that.

My bedroom was upstairs and very large. It had a closet full of shelves only, a walk-in with two "rooms", and a regular coat closet.

Both hallways in the house were octagon shaped.

I noticed the house juts out on the side. Ours did the same. In the DR there was a window seat in that area where we kept the telephone.

The TV was one of those tv/stereo consoles that set against the front curtains. Remember those? lol

I'm sitting in my bed which is blocking a door added in the 20s because I have so little wall space in my master due to doors and windows. No biggie :) we put beds on angles and use inside walls for larger items. In my dining room (5 doors, one of which is 7' wide) the buffet is in front if the window and yes it is taller than the windows by about a foot but looks great. All of our sofas are floated as would have been the case in the day. There are walls, you're just not seeing them.

It's a gem that needs a loving restoration. Never a kitchen open to the rest of the house (horrid in a home of this period) but yes, I'd buy it and enjoy learning how to live in a home if that period. It's wonderful if they can afford the work.

Igloo, I remember our kitchen well in the old house. It was my job to keep it clean if I wanted my allowance. lol.

It was a "galley" kitchen, very narrow. I spent so many hours in there wondering why they skimped on the size of the kitchen when all the other rooms were decent sized.

This is sad. About 15 years ago I took my sons to the town where I grew up and we drove by my house. The neighborhood is still stunning. The house sits on Main Street, in the old part of town where all the old stately homes are.

Our house was a corner lot, and the "side yard" is where we played touch football, and at Christmas my mom would put the big Caroler's up.

It has a detatched garage in back, and parking on the side street is allowed. Mom parked on the side street, dad parked in back. Plenty of parking.

Well, some bozo had the audacity to build a large concrete SLAB in the side yard for parking! I almost cried when I saw it. Who does that?
