I'll toss in my .02. I can see spray paint or 'regular' paint eventually crackling and crunching from all the 'give' in the fabric. I will offer this though. I have painted (decorative tole) on fabric before and although stiff, it worked. At craft stores there is a special sealer you get for fabric, then apply the decorative paint over that, then seal again. It's been a long time since I did that, so maybe better products are available? The folks at decorative/tole board here might be able to offer more (link below). Since that was so easy, I started searching for other companies that do the searching for you. I found three more and sent emails off to them also. Now I'll be checking my email 20 times in the next few days hoping for a positive response. Thank you! And thank you too for saying the fabric is 'charming'. Emagineer, While searching I've found the same as you.....I find Waverly Villa but it's nowhere near the pattern I have. Other than colored circles representing the colors in the pattern, there is no other info on the fabric edge. I think I'll unfold the fabric all the way later today and see if I'm missing some information along the other edge. I had been searching for 'Waverly Discontinued Fabric' on Google, Ask.com, About.com, Yahoo.com, you name it. Last last night/early this morning I removed the 'Waverly' and I've found several more sites where I can email and request a search for their patterns. But you're right, without a number, they are probably going to come up with the same 'Villa' patterns as we did. Thank you! I'll wait one week for any/all replies from those websites where I asked them to help with my search for this fabric. If I don't get any positives, that's what I'll do! Maybe a band of solid along each long edge, or maybe a solid band at the top, about 10" worth from the curtain rod. Oh, so many possibilities now...Thank you!!! SDkitchen, Ya know, I have been unfolding and folding this fabric so many times and each time all I did was look along that edge with the Villa name and colored dots, never thinking to look along the other edge (Duh Me). When it gets light out (haven't been to bed yet-using the quiet, uninterrupted time to work on the wood slats of my new-to-me chairs), I'll open the fabric up (again! lol) and look along the other edge. If I find anything at all, I'll come back here with a pic. Thank you!!

I don't know if you have done a lot of faux finishes, but bar stools is not a good start for a crackle finish. It would be difficult to explain why but it has to do with the legs and the rounds. I would spray paint bar stools an decidedly different color and no crackle here. I think it not only is very difficult but will bring down the look of your room and devalue what you are trying to accomplish. I don't think that is true of all crackle finishes as they are great in some locations, just not this one. JMHO, flame me, flame me but I think you need to go with a strong other color in solid paint. Do I see black on your frames on the wall? Black will give your room another dimension and bulk it up as it needs that. It will give it the look it deserves.

I don't know if this comes too late, but we have Walker Zanger Gramercy Park crackle subways in our backsplash including behind our gas range top. After over 3 years of heavy use they look as beautiful as the day that they were installed. They were sealed at install, but have not required any additional maintenance. The area that takes the most abuse is behind our sink and there isn't a mark or stain on any tile indicating that they are porous and need to be resealed. I also have not seen any additional 'crackling'. I can highly recommend them to be used in a backsplash.
