Those do look like oak. However, if you replace them, the two main issues are: 1) if they are tongue and groove boards, it is going to be a hassle to remove them without doing damage to adjacent boards; and 2) getting a finish to match. 4 boys, yes the photo above is very similar to what I have. The parts you found at the the grand brass website is very similar, but I haven't seen the threaded base. I have 4 of these (2 per bedroom). We'll remove one of the lamps from the wall tonight to take a closer look and perhaps I'll go to a lamp store on Tuesday or perhaps order on line. Here in the US, I have found wonderful things at ReStore, run by Habitat for Humanity. People donate all kinds of things, kitchens, furniture, appliances, boxes of tile, curtain rods, sinks, etc and Habitat uses the money to build homes for low income families. You could also talk to the real estate agent who sold you the house as she might be aware of homes being remodeled and you could help demo for the kitchen. When we remodeled, our son took our old cabinets for his house. Some communities have bulletin boards. In farm country, the local feed and farm stores have bulletin board and you can post there. Contact demolition companies and give them a flyer with your needs and phone number. One of my employees was at a very expensive home when the owners said they were throwing away their kitchen. He got the whole kitchen, without appliances, free for the hauling. Don’t start tearing apart your kitchen until you locate the “new”.
