Is there a reason you want to knit them on 2 needles instead of double pointed or circulars? Knitting this way (in the round) is so much faster and you don't have a seam which is uncomfortable. If you haven't tried to knit in the round before, it really is not too difficult to master, once you give it a try. Also-- when you're doing stockinette stitch, you don't have any purl rows!

Hi -- Thanks! For the eyes - I just poked a big socket and then made the eyeballs and placed them in - then added the lids upper and lower. I think the white speck of highlight makes them look more real. I haven't sealed the head yet in anyway - but might just do the eyes to give it the "wet" look. As for clothes - I think I'll make him a puppet like I said and use material - I'm not the best sewer but if I plan it first, I should be able to make something. I'll need to make myself a pattern. No, I don't think I've seen Katherine Dewey's site. I'll go google it. I'm no mail at PCP too. I get tired of the pasta machine questions! LOL Lia - The face you made is wonderful too! I don't think I could do it like that. I think we all have our way of seeing things spacially (sp) and we sculpt from that view. I love your face. She is just beautiful. MryRose -- He's all clay except, there is a foil and wire armature underneath. His head is not solid clay inside. You should just dive in and try sculpting. You'll redo a few times, then it will come to you. Look at your own face to understand the different structures. Its fun. -- Michele

Hi, Dottie, I agree with Rebecca. If you're making something wide, like a baby blanket or afghan, and you try to do it on straight needles, you'll end up abandoning the project because it will (literally) be such a pain to try to hold the needles up. Some patterns call for circular needles because of the width of the project, but other projects truly need to be knit in the round. I've never attempted to knit in the round using straight needles so I can't accurately say how it would be, but I can't imagine that it would be much fun at all. I highly recommend the Harmony Wood Options set from Knit Picks. It's $75 for the set, but you'll get everything you need -- needle tips in sizes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10.5, and 11; four cables (two each in 32" and 24"); end caps (so you can take the needle tips off one cable to use on another, while keeping the stitches from coming off the end of the cable); and a clear vinyl zippered case in which to keep everything. You can also, if/when necessary, add to the set with needle tips in sizes 10.75, 13, 15, and 17; and with cables in 40", 47" and 60" lengths (you always receive a set of two of the cables in whatever size you order). And, you can always put one of the end caps at one end of a cable and a needle tip on the other, to make a really long "straight needle," if you really, really, want "straight needle knitting" on a wide project. Hmmm... maybe that's why you always get two of each size cable - so you can make a pair of long "straight needles." LOL! Knit Picks also has quite a few free knitting patterns, including some nice hats. :-)

I love circulars. In fact, the only things I don't use them for is scarves and dishcloths. As for your project twisting when joining, that can happen even with double points. You just have to be very careful when joining. I learned socks on double points and did quite a few pair that way before learning to do them on one long circular. I twisted many when joinig. If you notice it when you finish the first round, you can fix it without tearing out. After that, it will show, and must be taken out. To stop the cables on circulars from curling, I was taught to "cook" my needles. Heat a cup of water and put the cable in the hot water for a few seconds at a time, removing and straightening, and doing it again if needed, until the curl comes out. The curl is from being coiled in the package. Tami
