new weigh watchers

I noticed that weight watchers has a new program now along with the old, Can anyone help explain that to me?

I need to follow some plan AGAIN & will look at all. Till the 15th I will be at my sons so won't have as much time to look till I get home. Maybe some of U already know about WW.

I don't know about it except that the ad says that it is an alternative to counting points. It always seemed to annoy the leaders when I refused to keep track of my foods. that just didn't work for me. I lost 15 pounds, and love Weight Watchers, but to write down foods and track points was an obsessive thing to do. I would live those points, and crave food. Except for that Weight Watchers is great.

Did you see on the news that Weight Watchers is the only program proven to work and last for more than 2 years?

They need to keep new methods coming so they keep new members coming in.
I am guessing this new diet is low carb/low fat and very limited in your list of things to eat since there is no counting. Or maybe you weigh and measure everything like the "old" WW. Hopefully someone will set us straight (Dee?).

I've hit a plateau and so haven't been excited to post. I'm holding steady at 32 pounds - up one then down one each week. I can't complain about the program though because I haven't been following it. It's all me. I stopped writing it all down, stopped counting points, etc. Even the exercise has lagged. I can look back at the past 6 weeks and know that I just got too comfortable with where I was! It was so good to be fitting into clothes and even buying a few new things. The success should have motivated me to keep working but instead I just sat back and enjoyed it.\ I had a couple weeks of business travel then a family vacation since I last posted too. That really made it hard and I missed a couple meetings because I was out of town. I guess I should be glad that I didn't gain a bunch of weight during that time! But the good news, for me, is that I got serious last week and feel much more on track. I started back with the homemade and point-conscious soups on Tuesday. This morning I did a 2 mile walk around a local lake, stopped at a farmers market on the way home and stocked up on good veggies, then came home and worked in the garden for a while. (After that I lounged in the pool for 2 hours, finished a book I haven't had much time to read, and am now on my way to a neighbors for late-afternoon mojitos! Didn't want you to think I had turned into a saint or anything!) Finally back with the program, I'm working hard to drop another 13 pounds by the end of June. On the 4th of July I want to be able to say I've lost 45 pounds. I think I can do that if I stay serious. Congrats Happy Girl on reaching goal and staying there! Kate

hey donna, I'm in south Texas, very hot weather already this is tthe first year I get Orioles so I'm very excited about it. I saw the female do it again, so I will be looking for a shady spot this afternoon to move my HB feeder and I will be putting orange slices for her.I have so much action going on in my back yard today, one of my feeders is right by a window so I've been abel to see the hummingbirds pretty close, and they are curious, they look straight at me. I saw one with a red chest and one with a purple chest. green on the back, I saw two duller lookng ones , I don't have time to search for them on the internet but first thing tomorrow morning.

As many have said - you've got to be serious about it ... and you're the only one that can do it. One of life's important guidelines is to get more bang for your buck ... so why help fatten WW's coffers? What about putting together a group yourself recruited among folks in various agencies or groups in which you participate, e.g. social, political, religious or sport, etc. and agreeing to meet regularly, and to do your weighing yourselves? Dare I say, "religiously"? The benefit? No fees ... or you could collect some and send the money through some agencies which feed hungry kids in various areas of the world, for thousands die there daily due to lack of food - or poor health, with minimal medical service available. 5%? 10%? of the world is worried/obsesses about being overweight ... while over 50% is hungry. If there's a God ... how do you think that S/He may feel about such a situation? Or about so many of the people who claim to follow Him/Her not doing a great deal more than collecting for food hampers for local needy at Christmas (e.g. massive re-arrangments of the world's economy with a view to greater fairness, more people getting a decent diet)? This issue of overweight, and bad diet (with many more of our kids being overweight than in earlier generations, and more suffering from diabetes) can be potentially life-restricting (even -threatening) for many in our society ... ... but it's immediately life-threatening for millions in many parts of the world ... especially in areas where they've been suffering for several successive years of drought recently. Surplus food hurts us - the lack of it kills them. This is a major part of the reason that our world is as sick as it is. I am sorry that I feel the need to rain on your parade, ladies. ole joyful

First of all, no matter what program you are on, you are supposed to eat mindfully, and not gorge yourself no matter what you are eating. You want to learn to stop when you are full, (actually, just before that). So that is why making something "zero" points should not mean you gorge on it. I think the WW changes are to acknowledge the latest science and obesity research. I think many many moons ago WW programs and most diets were based on the view that all calories were created pretty much equally. Then they decided that a) that was not good for your health and b) that led people to choose foods that may not have been filling, and so they gave into hunger. When I last was on WW, 15 yrs or so ago, the points system essentially keyed off calories, but the points system rewarded you for eating fiber and dissuaded you from eating fat. That is why points don't equal calories. I would guess that they have found that, if you make tracking the key to success, you will find very few people (even w online apps) who want to track everything they eat every single meal of every single day for the rest of their lives. If you take all of the foods that people tend not to overindulge in and that are reasonably nutritious without being calorically dense, and make them all zero, then essentially you are saying you only need to track treats, or indulgences. That is probably a lot more doable. I believe research shows that almost all diets "work." The issue is which approach one can live w indefinitely. Nearly everyone makes the mistake of playing Scarlett on this one, and figuring, after they lose, then they will worry about what to do for the rest of their lives. But the latter is the most important part. About 15 yrs ago I used WW and did very well. I did it 99% on line. I tried meetings, but some leaders, frankly, are bad at what they do. Or silly or juvenile or not really that knowledgeable. The participants can be even worse. Sorry for the misanthropic bent, but that was my experience. Some people need or like meetings for the accountability of weighing in. If that is useful to you, and or the camaraderie (assuming you are more patient/generous that I am), then WW is a sound choice. I like Myfitnesspal. I like to track from time to time and I don't feel I need a lot of guidance. It is easy to use and i have it on my phone.

The other program is called Core. It is not low carb at all. I have been doing this program since October and have lost 17 pounds. You have 35 Flex points per week to use however you want. It is nice not to have to count what you are eating. It is based on healthy choices along with learning how to understand when you are satisfied. You can have up to three dairy choices a day. I have most mornings, a bowl of fat free plain yorgurt with frozen fruit and splenda. There is a focus on whole grains also. I have tried all the low carb diets and I missed the things I loved. It was very hard to change my way of thinking when I started. I can eat CARBS. One of my favorite treats is a bag of 94% FF Kettle Corn. Sweet and Salty...YUM! The Core Plan is fantastic for anyone who doesn't want to be bothered counting points...although I will say that counting points is easy and no big deal to me...I eat much the same thing through out the week or month and you quickly learn that a 1/2 C of 1% milk is 1 point and that your morning cereal is 1 point or 2 points so it's not like you are spending every day...I don't necessarily evven write anything down until I have a free moment ...I just keep a running total in my head...

Core Plan is basically eating a balanced plan or whole foods ...I don't want to take the time to type it all out because it is available at Dotties or on the WW site...

I am part of a challenge group on the WW chatboard and many people LOVE core. They don't have to obsess with counting all those points. For me, FLEX worked well and I made it to goal quickly and have managed to maintain since May. I no longer journal my points...I sort of do it "in my head". But if I were struggling, I'd consider Core. It's not a fad like the low-carb thing.
