You could put it on graham crackers, that's my favorite way to eat Nutella. Or, I just saw a rice krispie type recipe that called for Cocoa Krispies, marshmallows and Nutella and I thought the kids would LOVE that.

It's good as a filling for peanut butter cookies and it's just off the spoon. I've used it in a pinch for frosting cupcakes too.

Stuff it into dessert crepes and serve with a poof of whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce, a few sprinkles of toasted chopped hazelnuts. Worthy of company!

I make Nutella and Peanut Butter sandwiches to take to lunch some days.

But, just using a spoon works really well too. :)

An interesting sidenote re: Nutella that I discovered when taking the (Boston) North End Market Tour last fall.

There are two versions of Nutella available in the U.S. The one that is made for the American consumer (now sold in plastic containers) has 3 times the sugar as the European version.

The European version is imported and sold in glass containers at specialty markets.

That came as a real surprise to me. I prefer the lower sugar version, but apparently the sweeter one is more appealing to the general American palate.

Although I love chocolate and hazelnuts, I've never been a Nutella fan - something about the consistency I don't care for. However, I love Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Blend. It's less sweet and has a grainier texture, which I actually prefer.

Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who might be interested. I found it on Amazon but various grocery stores carry it as well. Since it's a specialty retainer, it's probably more expensive than than Nutella but I don't really know how the price compares.

We don't have an Aldi's, but next time I'm in Orlando, I'll be sure to look for this cheaper version of Nutella. I love to bake things with Nutella in them. Here's our current fav:

NUTELLA CHEESECAKE BROWNIES

Brownie layer:
10 Tblsp. butter (5 oz.) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
1/4 cup Nutella
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder

Cheesecake layer:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened at room temp.
3 Tblsp. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/3 cup Nutella

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a 9- x 9-inch square pan with parchment.

To make the brownie layer: Combine butter, Nutella, eggs, and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Sift in flour and cocoa powder and mix until well combined. Pour batter into your prepared pan and spread evenly. Set aside while you prepare the cheesecake layer.

To make the cheesecake layer: Mix the cream cheese, sugar, eggs and Nutella until well combined. Pour over your brownie batter.

Bake at 325 degrees F. until the cheesecake looks set, about 40-45 minutes. Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting. (I cut my brownies into 36 since they are quite decadent.)

I use it to make banana crepes. Just spread some Nutella or other Hazelnut spread on each crepe, top with banana slices, fold, and serve with whipped cream. Oink, oink... :o)

In a pms induced haze a few years ago, I filled wonton wrappers with nutella and deep fried them. I dusted the finished product with powdered sugar.

It worked.

Not a big fan of the taste of it myself..Interestingly if you watch the tv commercial, the mom, the little boy, the jar of nutella, the voice-over glowing how it's made with real hazelnuts, a cup of milk and a dash of cocoa..

Why do they omit mentioning the 3 cups of sugar which is the main ingredient? LOL

Doesn't it just figure the Americanized version has three times the sugar and hydrogenated cr*p in it! HA!

Amck, thanks for confirming what I was thinking...Nutella had gotten so much sweeter. I grew up eating it, and we always bought it from the European import shops. It was not sold elsewhere back then.

Then I bought some at the local grocery and was heartbroken at the change. I am going tostop at the deli tomorrow. I might even swing past Aldi's and do a taste test. Life can be rough!

I never tried it until hearing about here or some cooking show. guessing the one I've had is the one with all the sugar....LOL!

Nutella Mug Cake
Ingredients

4 tablespoons self rising flour
4 tablespoons white granulated sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons Nutella
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

Method

1. Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug. Whisk well with a fork until smooth. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 � 3 minutes. (Time depends on microwave wattage.) Top with whipped cream and a little chocolate sauce if desired.

2. Top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

Gosh, I want to thank all of you who have contributed recipes and ideas for using Nutella. I am looking forward to trying some of your recipes & suggestions but til then, I've been content with a little nip straight from the jar when I need a quick pick me up. I hope that those of you who try the Aldi brand are satisfied with the product.

Also, I apologize for taking so long to get back to this thread and want you to know that I really appreciate each & every suggestion and, especially, the time you take out of your day to respond. (By way of explanation, we have been really busy back to work on our on again/ off again DIY kitchen remodel. Doing all the work ourselves including bldg. the cabinets, the old pay as you go shoestring budget approach to remodel.)

I fell in love with Nutella in college. THis is over 30 years ago. A friend's mom used to bring it in a care package. I couldn't afford it, so we would trade. Something. Anything. All I did back then was eat it on a spoon. I was thin as a rail, so everyone in the dorm would encourage this habit.

When my kids were little I put it on bread for them, but when they got older, it was too rich for them.

I bought some last fall, and was surprised to find I no longer liked it. The hazelnut flavor was not as rich as I remembered. I thought my tastebuds had changed. Now I know why.

Maybe I'll use the rest in that cookie recipe. I go to Trader Joe's; maybe I'll see of they have a different version.

I like it, but it is far more sweet than it needs to be. I buy it vary occasionally and use it on toast as a dessert. I will also use it on a single layer cake as frosting. (I make a single layer because I live alone and a full recipe lasts too long.) On cake, the sweetness makes more sense. I would love to try the lower sugar variety.

You can control the amount of sugar in Nutella by making your own. Looks to be very easy to make.
