It's 2:30 am here, and I can not sleep.

I got the sh!t kicked out of me today at work, although, in hindsite, I should of known something was up. I haven't been in on the dept meetings, I'm not asked to lunch any more (by my peers)

I got demoted. My position that was created for me was eliminated, and I got knocked back to a clerk at 1/2 of what I was making. I am now making what I made 11 years ago, and I am so confused and mad that I simply can not think straight.

I was told that I "should know all of the audits by now" (5 different audits, and I've been there 10 weeks; I know 3), and that I wasn't were I should be. Now, keep in mind that the controller was over-looking the fact that I am *her* underlining, and that she never set the training up; I thought I was doing a good job.

I guess maybe I should have went and smoozed with her in her office, and told rauchy stories of my love life, but that's not me; never has been. I prefer to get to work early and get started and, well... actually work. And since day one, I ahve always went to others to see what I could help them with--I'm the only one who does that, but I was told that this is what the office did.

So, what do I do? I'm now down with what was my staff as of yesterday morning, and I'm sure this will be interesting. I am dead in the water here, I can't transfer out. So...what? Do I quit? Stay and let them fire me? What? At least I have a job, still with no insurance, though. I can't decide what will look worse on me--stay or go.

Oh, and just last Weds, the controller calls and tells me that I am officallly Ok'ed through the state police, and that I can get my permanent badge--cost me $200.00. $$$ down the drain.

And as a topper, i just bought my dream trenchcoat on Saturday morning--I need a coat so badly, and I found this stunning Butberry with the zipout lining--looks like it's never been worn--for $150. And now I hafta to see if I can return it. (My car doesn't have heat, so I need a coat--)

And....... Rog doesn't know any of this--I can't bear to see the look of disappointment on his face--I love him so much, and I've let him down again--

What do I do?

(((Maddie))) - I am SO sorry to hear this. I don't know enough about your kind of work to offer advice. But I do think you should tell Roger and then sit tight for a few days and think about what you really want to do. Don't make any rash decisions. Seems to me like you should have been given a review and then had time to improve the areas where they felt you were lacking. I don't understand the business world sometimes.

BJ - This is going to be a great game!!! "Friendly" wager...........let me think about that! LOL Of course my money will be on the Steelers and the BUS! But may the best team win!

I have to go into school early today and set up a book fair. Can't wait to see what kinds of bargains I can find.

I will post the un-birthday list later today. Gotta run now.

Hello, It is a little chilly here too Suzanne. What a change. I'm not minding it too much, but my poor DH has been having to do some outside work. At least when he comes home he can defrost in the hot tub! QOD: I have Monday off! I also have tomorrow off. Professional Development day for teachers so I don't have to go in! Patti, I am sorry to hear about your friend. You sound like you are good support for him. I hope the the PT works for you. Dave, right back at ya! Donna, I hope you are feeling better. (((HUGS))). I'm thinking of you. How is your kitty doing? Tikanis it sounds like you are on the right track. Keep up the great work. Raeanne, what are you giving for the unbroken gift? I could supply everyone at the party with something with the amount of "things" I have around here! Did anyone hear about SS house? So sad. I'm sure she will rebuild and make many more happy memories. I pulled out all of my WW stuff, AGAIN. I am going to read through it over the weekend and decide if I want to try and commit myself to it again. If I do, it will be full steam ahead. Meetings and everything. Have a great evening! Love, Besh

Tikanis, I love that story! BJ, I am very happy for you about the job. Your employer has an eye for a good thing and wants to keep it (you!). I hope that everything will work out the way you want it. Suzanne, the job sounds great. I am happy that it worked out. It is so nice to work close to home. My job is about 10 minutes from me, 15 really because I have to stop at Dunkin Donuts along the way, for coffee only! Do you start this week? Patti, be well. I hope Dave does not catch it. I am on my 2 round of antibiotics right now for a throat thing. It is not sore, just scratchy, but it has been this way since Thanksgiving. :-( Marci, Donna, Milkdud, congratulations on your weight. Milkdud sorry the way it came off, but a loss is a loss right? Donna, are you doing points or Core? I am doing points, but today I am really going to study the Core program and switch over for a week or two and see how it goes. I think I need a new program to shake things up a bit. Dee, thinking of you and hope you are having a great time. And Raeanne, you are off again next week. I am so envious of all you world travelers!!!! I think I need to beef up my "Helpful people and travel" corner! I had a nice night last night. DS and fiance came over and DS #2 was home (rarity) so we cooked dinner and then watched the Transporter 2 and Wedding Crashers. Transporter was so far fetched, but the main character was a pretty cool dude and the Wedding Crashers was a major disapointment. I had heard nothing but great reviews on it and we all thought it did not live up to it. It was still a nice evening. I have to start thinking about a dress for my sons wedding in September. People keep telling me I should be looking now and I am not ready to make a commitment to any one dress right now. I am still losing weight and whatever I chose now, may not be the dress I would choose if I was lighter, even if it had to be altered. Do you think I still have time to wait? I was thinking around June I would get serious about it. Opinions please! Have a great day. It got cold here again. Yesterday it was 60 degrees, today it is about 30. Ahhhh, New England! Love, Besh

Last 15 months: Dec 2003- Went ot Alaska for Christmas w/ my family, first time in 15 years. Wonderful. January 2004 - DH decided he needed to separate and went looking for a place of his own. I received emails, cards and support from my SS sisters and DH & I went to counseling and started some work. May 2004 - My yearly visit with my Kentucky family and MADDIE! Loved it and LOVE her. Spring 2004 - Exchanged a series of emails with DeeMarie and we learned a lot about each other. Very fun and lovely conversations. Beautiful person, she is. June 2004 - Surrendered my dog to keep my husband. Painful but necessary. Again, lots of support from here. Summer 2004 - Spent living in Alaska. Drove up and down the state and had a killer time. Loved it but was happy when I got home in the fall, then I got homesick for Alaska - lol. September 2004 - Went to NY and met Raeanne and her DH- visit too short and had TOO much fun! The people are so fantastic that we're thinking of moving to that coast in a few years! Scoping weather and property now. DH started 2nd year of law school - only 1 more to go after this. I started back to college to finish a degree I started many years ago. All children in school. Dec 2004 - Had DH's family here for holidays. So stressful, DH blew a gasket and almost left again. Back to counseling...and deal making. Lots better now that family's gone. January - Signed up for another college load; continuing to work toward that piece of paper I want. Becoming aware that time flies when you don't have any. Signed up at WW Core Program. Determined to lose weight and be healthy. Still here, after many years and still checking in really regularly. Planning a trip to east coast in March to scout a place to live when we finally move. KYSusie~ Good to hear from you. Keep on truckin' toward wellness. Back to the laundry and paper I'm supposed to be writing! Check in, everyone!

Okay, I got THAT done. I really did read up on the stuff and visited the appliance forum AND took suggestions. So here's what I came up with: Frigidaire Freezer for the pantry (White)- Manual defrost. I'm either going to go with a 20 cu.ft or a 17. I have to measure the space I have. Right now, I have a small chest (freezer that is!) that I am also going to move into my garage in the new place. We have to buy meat and frozen stuff from the mainland and freeze it to cope with prices here! Washer and Dryer: Miele with stands (White). The guy sold me on these. They use very little water and soap and they have a honeycomb interior too, which will really save on the wear and tear of clothes. And they have a pretty huge rebate and energy cash back deal going right now on these. Refrigerator: GE Profile French Door w/ icemaker. (S-Steel) Really nice if you have lots of refer traffic (kids!) like we do. And it's got a nice freezer bottom drawer like my old SubZero, which I loved. (but...I HATE SUBZERO!--arm and a leg to repair! And a ROYAL pain to replace!) I'm also not buying ANYTHING built-in ever again! I got the one with the ice maker in the freezer. They have one with an icemaker and water deal on teh door, but that, for me, is a pain in the neck. The little ones think the water and ice maker are a TOY and I end up cleaning up the mess! No thanks! Microwave: GE Profile Spacemaker (Blk and Stainless): This is such a honey of a microwave!!! You can stop the turntable on it and it fits a 9X11 casserole dish in it or a 20 oz. cuppa coffee! And takes SO little space! I got 2 of these because we are microwave crazy in our house. I'm putting them on a shelf, side by side. Range and Oven (S-Steel) Dacor 38" 6-burner propane and electric: This thing really COOKS! And has convection too. I've had JennAir, Hotpoint, Thermador, etc and this tops them all and is SO easy to clean! Thermador and JennAir are the ones I would NEVER buy again---way too many drawbacks and the downdraft system just drives me NUTS--I will never do downdraft again! Range Hood: 42" Vent-A-Hood (S-Steel): Really SUCKY (and I mean that in a GOOD way!) and QUIET too! Nice design. I got it a little bigger than the stove because that's supposed to keep food smells, etc from wandering out of the kitchen area. Miele Dishwasher (S-Steel): Very cool. Love that the flatware rack is on the top and has its own spray thingy on top and has the ability to wash at 170 degrees. I got the one with the hidden control panel because the babies LOVE to tap, tap, tap on and buttons within their reach! So, anyway, that's what I chose. I'm so glad to be done with that part-my most unfavorite so far. Thanks for the help! It made a difference!

I'm off to work now, and this day should be interesting to say the least--

And, Marci, I agree. I think everyone s/b given a review--and the ironic part is that I was going to ask for one last week, but never had the time--what with 12 hour days--

Well, we'll see what the day brings.....

    Good Morning All,

((((((HUGS)))))) Maddie. I am sorry to hear your work news too. I don't know what to offer for advice either. It's good to still have a job although I am sure it's humiliating. If they fired you would you be able to collect unemployment? If you quit would you be able to collect? In NH you cannot collect if you quit. I would think that you have skills that could be utilized in a variety of positions. I can totally empathize on the whole job search thing. It's clear that you are truly discriminated against for age in some of the situations I have been in. This may sound off the wall but I would get the book, Move Stuff, Change your Life and start feng shui-ing your heart out! Concentrating on your career, prosperity and helpful people guas first. I believe that my life has changed for the better since doing this. Besh says her life changed too!! I also think you need to tell Roger right away. Most of all try not to let this affect your self-esteem too much. I know it's hard but try. We love you.

Marci, you must be elated about your Steelers!!

BJ, I know how you are feeling about the Sea Hawks.

It's snowing here today. We are expecting 6"-8" . I wish it were more it's so icy out there and the trails are dangerous. A good dose of snow would be the cure! But if we get 8" it will be a great start.

((Maddie)) I am so sorry about this, it's a very rough industry. I think you should tell Roger what has happened. I also agree with Marci that you should sit tight and see how this plays out. How approachable is your boss? If she is I would tell her that you thought you were doing a good job and were very surprised by what happened. If she is not I would think about talking to your employee relations people - that is what they are there for. I have been on both sides of the fence in the casino industry (employee and manager). ((Many, many hugs)).

Marci and BJ - I would not jump into this wager for anything! Good luck to both the Steelers and Seahawks.

Suzanne - no snow but lots and lots of rain. The spring temps have left and we returned to winter - ugh. When do you start your job? I will have to check out the Move Stuff book for sure.

Besh - I am counting points. I think I am going to do this to get myself together and then for a week or so try core. I agree that you have to shake things up a bit.

Raeanne - I love to pack for vacations although I am a day before/day of packer. I seem to better under pressure LOL!

Hugs and good thoughts for everyone - take care and have a great evening.

    Donna

Dear Maddie! (((HUGS))). I am hopping mad about your situation! Why were you not given a review? How can you be blamed for this when it was the controller's job to teach you the ropes? I hope that you got some straight answers today. I am not a schmoozer either and it is surprising to me when job security becomes related to how brown your nose is.... I could never work under those conditions either. Please let us know how it's going. Oh, one last thing... YOU didn't let Roger down. This is NOT your fault!

NH Suzanne I hope you got your 8" of snow! It has been extremely windy here for the past 24 hours. The power was out 1/2 of last night and most of the morning.

Donna and Besh, I am not sure how WW Points work but the Core program seems a lot like the good carb program that I am following. Would you mind checking out the menus I posted last week and tell me if I am right?

Well, I fell off plan a bit on Saturday. I made Annie's onion braid loaf(recipe from over at the cooking forum) and my willpower went out the window! I can say no to most sweets, but fresh baked bread melts every ounce of good intention I have.... I also had 2 glasses of wine with that.
    Back on track today.

I have some promising news about my knee. A friend has been really suffering with a bad shoulder. He owns a construction company and can no more refrain from using his shoulder than I can avoid using my knee. Seems he has found a doctor who uses a combination of medications and injects them right at the site of injury. My friend has been pain free for 4 days now and I am seriously considering this treatment for myself.

Well, gotta go! Back later as there is more to tell.

    (((Hugs!)))

Call my girl friend and go to lunch, then-by myself-go to a tan booth, then take a blanket, walkman, and a book, and go to the beach - no matter what time of the year or what kind of weather. If it was the dead of winter, I'd sit in my truck at the beach with the heat turned up. After a few hours, I'd take a shower, throw some jeans on and go to the waterfront bar and have a cocktail - by myself. And I'd sit there and write lists and lists of things I want to get done. I love to write lists!
    36. If you were a box of cereal, what kind would you be and why?
Quisp. Why am I Quisp? 'Cause I'm quazy but at the same time suscinct (crisp!), and like to think of myself as a sugary but crunchy comfort food for my friends. With or without milk, I'm ready.
    37. What in your life now reminds you of when you were growing up?
Let me see: I possess a lot of clutter I should get rid of (haven't learned), I live in a rainy town (same as when I grew up), I live for deadines (still procrastinating), I say 'yes' too often, ...I'm still creating an illusion of a living a perfect life, and I'M STILL DIETING!!!! Hmmmmm....caught me on a reflective day.

    :)

    Peace out.

Good Morning from absolutely gorgeous NH!! We got our 8"+ of snow and the trees are laden with white fluffy stuff. The sun is rising over the tops of the trees and casting a golden over them. It's breath taking and I will try to capture it for you but cameras usually don't do it justice.

I will fill in my questionaire later. Marci, I am excited to have you this year!!!

I have to run over to Len Crafters and get new glasses this morning. I fell on the ice yesterday morning early and hit my head hard. I think I may have had a mild concussion yesterday as I was totally out of it and nauseous all day. Feel better this morning except very sore! Anyway, my glasses flew off my head and got smashed all to he// can't imagine how that happened unless I landed on them!!

This is a pic of Domonick and Tillie. Dominick appears to be sticking his tounge out at Tillie but in fact, he sticks his it out when he is drinking water which is too funny!

Patti, you will get a kick out this!!

I will check in later after I get my new specs.

    Hi Maddie,

That's quite a weekend. Here are my thoughts SURPRISE!

    1. I would go to work, and keep going. It's was hard to find a job but it is best look for another while you are employed. Besides, given the history youÂve divulged previously, Rog would probably prefer you work than not have a job at all.

    2. You mentioned insurance-that you don't have it. Will you eventually get it? If they have a policy of providing insurance within 90 days of starting-or so, I would DEFINITELY stay on. At least you'll have insurance while you look for another job.

    3. Use your paid-for $200 badge and stay at work. Use the time to find out what went wrong in your review.

    4. Ask for a copy of the review they made before demoting you. And ask for a meeting WITHIN the week to discuss it with your supervisor. Try not to let them put you off. This is a meeting where you should listen carefully to what their expectations areÂand write them down. Obviously, they donÂt believe youÂve met their expectations, so ask for a written description and expectations for the position they JUST put you inÂand forget about that other positionÂit is water under the bridge. They must have some, since you were demoted due to a reviews and unfulfilled expectations.

    5. Ask for your projected schedule and ONLY work the hours on the schedule. Have ALL your overtime approved and signed for. When you get a signed sheet for overtime and make a copy for yourself. Overtime may have cooked your goose- you were citing a lot of extra hours, and even if they're verbally okay'd, your controller could say you were too slow in getting your job done. (I'm not saying you were-this is just something that happens sometimes.)

    6. Adjust your attitude if need be. Even though your wage is lower now and you are in a department you used to manage, itÂs not the end of the world. Your remark that you are "down with what was your staff as of yesterday morning" was telling, unless DOWNSTAIRS is what you meant and not the figurative kind of 'down.' Truly, if you were an effective manager, you are now among friends and allies! This has potential to be a very good workplace atmosphere.

    7. A person is NEVER "dead in the water!" Your engine may feel dead, so get out your oars and paddle like crazy. You are now in a department that you know like the back of your hand: GET MOVING! Show how efficient and affective you REALLY are. And, no matter what, donÂt complain about upper management---at all! Everything that comes out of your mouth should be positive from now on- at least at work. People will try to get you to talk down about management and the abuse of power---forget it! Adjust. Work with it. People can. Read Robert W. FullerÂs essay on power and itÂs history and learn how to understand it. Knowledge is power.

    8. If, as you mentioned, you were going to others and asking them if they need help, make double dang sure you have your own stuff done FIRST. Helping others may have got you demoted by making overtime work for you. I really don't know. I'm only using the info you gave me.

    9. Take the coat back. Go to a thrift store and get a warm coat or go to Target and get a coat and some long johns to wear under your pants. The thrift stores-especially in nice areas- have fantastic deals and it's fun to look at all the stuff. I shop there with my kids-we have fun finding bargains and they have a wide selection. You'll find a nice coat and probably some other fun stuff. I always do!

    10. Tell Rog right away. He may get angry and he may mope for a whileÂso what?---just get yourself ready for that. WeÂre always here. Just tell him. HeÂll find out anyway eventually. He is your best friend; treat him as such. If youÂre disappointed with yourself, tell him. HeÂll listen.

    11. Take a hard look at this job: you were really, really excited when you started it but said it wasnÂt really what you wanted. You may have unknowingly sabotaged it yourself. I suggest you tell Rog your about REAL DREAM JOB and tell him youÂre not getting any younger and youÂd like to make a plan to make it a reality. You can start a bank account and start depositing a certain amount (SQUEEZE!) every month toward owning your own business. You have the chops and the talent to have an auction house. You can get a woman-owned business loan if you have some seed money and a business plan. Take 15 minutes every night and sit with Rog and work on formulating a business plan that the banks will take a serious look at. Keep working, saving, and watching the bank account for your business grow. Even if your 60 when you get the auction house, youÂll have it! It will be YOURS! And if you change your mind, youÂll turn 60 and have enough money for one heckuva cruise!

You know I wouldnÂt spend this much time thinking about this if I didnÂt love ya to pieces. YouÂre keeping me up at night, girlfriend! XXOO!

Donna - I am also a day before packer - but I do everything very last minute.

Maddie - BJ's list of suggestions is a very good one. I hope you find peace with this situation very soon.

BJ - you are amazing - how do you come up with the stuff you post? I want you for my therapist.

Tikanis - I know you will research the injections before going for them - it almost sounds too good to be true - but I have my fingers crossed for you.

Suzanne - we only got 3 inches of snow, but it was wet and sat on the limbs of the trees and made everything very pretty.

I looked out my front window yesterday to be face to face with a deer. She was eating my shrubs and her baby was eating shrubs on the other side of my drive. I didn't have the heart to chase them - so they had an overpriced gourmet meal on me. The shrubs have seen better days anyway.

I love reading everyones answers, so keep them coming.

Donna SNJ~ That's so funny about your Mom's 'nice salad.' My Mom used to say something like that too.

She used to use the "green salad" saying. She'd say, "Would you like to have a green salad with that?"

My sisters and I are like, "MOM!---What other color salad is there?" lol.

    Good WEDNESDAY morning!

Just had to rush in to give Maddie a huge [[[[[[[[[[[[[HUG]]]]]]]. I agree with BJ on all her suggestions. I would never leave a job until I had a new one. If they decide to let you go, you can collect. The most important thing you can do right now is keep your head high and smile. It's tough but I know for a fact that senior management look for a good attitude in someone after they have had a disappointment. If you keep it professional, you may have someone important who notices; it can make a difference down in the line. Been there myself, so I know it firsthand. We all love you Maddie. You will get on the other side of this soon.

Oh, Besh....don't wait too long to look for a dress. Around here, we need at least 6 months for such dresses. Do they 'do' weddings in your area like they do here (more like a coronation!!)? If so, you really need the 6 months.

    Really gotta run.

Maddie hang in there and do the best you can. Start looking now for something else. Good luck!

NHSuz when do you start the new job and what will you be doing? I will be in the Keene area in March for a bowling tourney, maybe we can meet up for dinner or lunch. Im waiting to hear back from them on which shift I bowl, so can plan from there.

Be headed to Florida for a week next Sunday and I could use the break!

    Good Morning All,

Good to hear from you John!! I would love to meet you at your bowling tourney or otherwise. Let me know when we get closer and we can make a plan! Of course, I go to Manchester all the time so we could hook up there for lunch or something. It would make BJ so jealous!! LOL

Maddie, I am thinking of you and hope you check in to let us know what is going on.

    Raeanne, where are you?

It's cold and windy today so I will be working in my basement trying to get all my Christmas stuff organized and put away. So far, it's only made it to the basement!!

Suzanne - I am here. I just emailed you. It was windy here last night and it is in the 20's today, but the sun is shining. Do you start your new job on Monday?

Marci - I am watching an old episode of Gilmore Girls as I write this. We have the DVR (like TiVo) and I record all the episodes, I love that show.

Dee - I watched an episode of South Park last night and couldn't stop laughing. It was when they celebrated "Cowday" I couldn't help but think of you. Speaking of pizza... I shared a pie with DH last night - it tasted so good - even with all the guilt that comes with it.

We are leaving tomorrow afternoon to stay at Newark Airport for our Saturday morning flight. We are going out tonight and I work tomorrow - so I better get busy and pack.

I will check in tomorrow from work.

I have to write a peer review - I like doing that. And do another write up for Psych. Then to school to help the 4th graders hot glue their long houses! And the kids have playdates after that. Slow day for me.

Patti~ Did her daughter die? It wasn't clear to me, but I'll assume she did.

I always think the best thing to say when you don't know what to say is just that. Pick up the phone, have some Kleenex handy, and when she picks up, just say,

"This is Patti. I am so sorry. I don't know what to say."

She will probably cry and then she will start a conversation. You can even just say, at that point, that you just want to "be" with her, even in silence, on the phone. Breath together. Tell her you will be calling every week to check in with her and see if she needs your moral support. She'll say, "No, you don't have to do that."

Ignore her and ask her what a good time to call is. She'll tell you; then call at that time. Let her vent her anger, talk, cry, and express her disbelief at what happened. Don't ask her if there's anything you can do- just call weekly and support her. Don't offer solutions to her - it's frustrating when the one thing she wants is something no one can give her.

Things will fall into place with you and her. Just you being serious about being there is often enough for a person in her situation.

You can't take her pain away and she needs to go through a process before she can begin to heal. This is her tragedy and no one will ever know how she feels. But-- you will absorb some of the extreme pain she is experiencing and it will have an effect on you, so be sure you take care of yourself and have some distraction in your life to get your mind off of it.

    (((((((HUGS, PATTI)))))
You're a good friend for her to have.
    She's lucky in that respect.

Maddie~In answer to your question, yes, she died upon impact most likely. It is a heartbreaking story & now she knows that she can call me anytime, day or night. She is only sleeping 2-4 hours per night. That is about what Dave sleeps. She has PTSD like him but hers is from this instead of being in an explosion. Her younger son, that was with his sister, & had to positively identify the body is also going through so much. They are all in counseling. (Those children have been her life!) Thanks for your advice. Any other advice is welcome too.

Patti-((((HUGS)))) I agree with BJ "You're a good friend for her to have". How sad, I don't know how a mother goes on after something like that. I am glad you let her know that you are there for her - that is very comforting.

BJ - yes I found a swimsuit, it has a short skirt attached, but it has a slit up the front of one leg - so it is a bit stylish a very pretty turqoise color - I need as much coverage as I can get.

I am mostly packed, just a couple last minute things to throw together when I get home from work. Our cell phones will not be working there, so I will have to be checking in on the internet- so I will try to give you a little update at some point.

Everyone stay well - I will miss you.

    Good Morning All,

Patti, ((((((HUGS)))))) to you are your friends family. I am so sorry. Everyone is right, your friend is very fortunate to have you as a friend. I don't know how a mother goes on after such a tragedy. My mother was never the same after my DS death. It's sad.

Raeanne, I bet your bathing suit matches your beautiful eyes! Have fun and be safe. Above all, don't drink too much! LOL

Tomorrow is our first sleigh rally of the year and believe it or not we have enough snow on the ground to pull it off! It was touch and go but there is now snow but it will be very warm. Should be a nice day. I haven't tried sleighing yet as I don't have a sleigh. SP would look spectacular put to a nice little cutter but it's a big expense for something I could use once or twice a year if I was lucky. Then there is storage!! Sigh........someday.

QOD: What is everyone up to this weekend. We know what Raeanne is doing the lucky girl.

    ((((((MADDIE))))

    (((((JOANNE)))))

Yesterday's brekky with my old boyfriend was a blast. We went walking all over the Pike Place Market and had lots of great coffee and caught up. He is in the best shape he's ever been in, so that was inspiring!

Have a great weekend. My friend's funeral is tomorrow. It's be good to get the closure and see a lot of old friends at the potluck afterwards. Then I am going to dive into a book and catch up on some sleep.

Check in everyone and let us know what you're doing this weekend!

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[HUGS]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] to everyone who needs them today.

Patti, I agree that the most important thing for someone like your friend is to know that there is a friend to just listen. She may need you to run out and get aspirin or tissues or chicken soup, or whatever she feels she is unable to do for herself. After my mom died and we got back from the funeral parlor to make arrangements, I remember asking a friend to run out to buy us a bag of peppermints for our throats. Just could not muster up the energy to run out again after a hectic morning. She did it in a flash, and it was something that I still remember after all these years! I knew I could depend on her for just that little gesture that meant so much.

Raeanne, I will be thinking about you on vacation. Raise a glass for me please! Have fun in the sun.

QOD: I need to catch up on bills tonight. Tomorrow I have lots of laundry and a few errands to run. Tomorrow for dinner, DH and I meet friends that I used to work with. Sunday is a no-plans day for me, so I may use it to clean my home office.

Maddie, please check in with us. I'd like to know how things went with Rog and work.

Take care, eat healthy, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

BJ~I'm so sorry. I got you mixed up with Maddie somehow. I had just talked to that friend when I got on here & I don't know how I got Maddie out of BJ? What about your friend's death? Congrats on the weight loss!

DeeMarie~She lives in TX & I'm here in FL so some things are impractible but she still has a shoulder via the 'Net & the telephone.

NH Suzanne~It is kind of strange that MY mom said to me the other day that she had been thinking about what she would do if I died before she did. She didn't think she could handle it. She said that parents are supposed to die before their children. I agree. I had two miscarriages & that was hard enough. I don't know why my mom was thinking about me b/c I've never been the favorite or even the 2nd in line to the 3 of us. LOL

Raeanne~I always get swimsuits that cover up everything, as much as possible too. I don't see you like that in my mind. I certainly hope that you have a wonderful time.

Milkdud~Are you lurking around? I loved having you posting & I miss you. Please come back when you can.

Love to all~(Because we just cannot say it enough)~Patti :)

Since I have worked like crazy from day 1, and havent had much time to post, I guess I should fill in what I didnt on my post Monday morning--

I was hired on November 8 to fill a newly created position in the accounting department. It was the position of Accountant/Supervisor, and I was told that a 4-year degree was needed for this position. I was also told that I would learn the 5 audits that the department performs, as well as any other additional accounting functions that were needed. I was not given a deadline in which to have finished my training.

During the last 2 weeks of November, I was taught one audit, and in December, I was sent to supervisor training, and then my direct supervisor, "H" re-certified as a supervisor me on December 28th and wrote on my evaluation "Good Job!!". I also started learning the slot audit about during the first/second week in Dec. And that is where I stayed until.

On or about January 4, "H" called me into her office to say that from the reports she was hearing, that I was "burnt-out" (wtf???) on the slot machine audit, and that I was being put on another audit on January 8. When I asked what the problem was, she replied that she had received reports that I was stressed out. The only slot auditor for the week in question (December 25 to December 29; that supposedly burnt me out; it was also the busiest week at the property) was "R", who at one point told me to "stop f*cking things up", among other various job-misleading "help" she gave me while she was "training" me. I was told previously that she ("R) was very angry with me coming on board as she thought she should get the new position, even though she does not have the required degree. She ("R") was hostile to me while training, uncooperative and very demeaning to me and my background. She refused to help me on more than one occasion when I had problems with the audit, and would have a negative attitude when I asked for advice. And no, she wasnt too busy with her work to help--

I went to the other audit, and have been there ever since. "H" called me into her office on Sunday, January 22, told me that my position was eliminated because I wasnt trained enough to supervise the office for the week of January 23 27 (since the other supervisors were in training that week), and that I had had problems with that week in the slot audit. (Seems to be a re-occurring theme.) At this point, told her that I had never been given any specific guidelines as to when my training was to be finished, and this was the first I had heard that the other supervisors were to gone from the office that week. Then, I spoke up, and finally told her the conflicts with "R", and some of the things she said to me, and that she deliberately tried to teach me wrong procedures concerning the slot audit. (I learned about the wrong procedure from the other slot auditor when she came back to work, and I asked the correct procedures.) I also pointed out that I was never given a timeline that I was to know the whole department, and that she, "H", was my supervisor, and had failed to inform me of this. "H"then kept repeating that that week in the slots was bad (see, keeps re-occurring), and that I was being demoted to this other position, with a 50% reduction on pay (and I now became hourly; I was salaried before) and that my off days would be changed to reflect my new status. She also asked me not to say anything to the rest of the department until next week. (I assume the week starting January 29.)

On Tuesday, January 23, I was sorting paperwork at the printer, and "H" apparently did not see me standing there, and I over-heard her, speaking in a low voice, tell "R"that my supervisor position was open, and she should go apply for it. No one else in the accounting department knew, as they might have a degree and be qualified for the position, but "H" did not choose to share that information with anyone other then "R", who has been sabotaging me since she had the chance in December.

So, at this point, I figured that since it was, ahem.. public knowledge at this pointhey"H" told "R"and I let it slip at lunch to the others. Everyone was shocked, as I get along with them, and have helped out with their problems before. And, I figured that it was best to hear it from me, so that I dont look like a whipped pup.

One of the guys that reported to me went back to the department and let it slip that he found out, and "R"s face was pricelessshe got defensive and her voice got high. It was funny to see and hear. He said that he overheard "H" tell "R", and she immediately started to backpedal.

I did go to HR, and register my complaints, and the rep asked what I thought the repercussions would be, and I told her that I figured Id be fired, and she said "Well see about that", and smiled.

Throughout all of this, I have kept my composure, and have smiled and not acted any different. I still talk and laugh and cut up, and I have kept the same level of work standards that I have from the first day. I finished one audit by 10am yesterday, the second by 4, and still and time to deal with other peoples problems with their work.

So, I am still employed, but I think things will change on Sunday. And probably not for the better. Oh well. Its just a job that paid very well; its not my life and it does not define me.

I did tell Rog on Monday, after I took a good assessment of things, and he is OK with things, no matter what happens. I told him everything, and I told him the reason that I could not tell him Sunday was that I couldnt bear the look of disappointment in his eyes, he told me I was silly, and that I couldnt disappoint him, ever.

BJI love you, my sisnothing you can say to me would ever hurt me, b/c I know you speak from your heart. If I were hourly, I would say you are right, but I was salaried, and all supervisors must stay until all the work is finished, even if they themselves have been done for hours. And I was told that everyone must help the others out to finish up, which is fine with meso, thats why I would always ask, when I was finished, if I could help with someone elses work. (Although, in retrospect, I never did see any of the other supervisors do thatever. ???) My insurance will not kick in until Marcha long way to go--, and I was not given any type of review until this past Sunday. Nor any sense of unfilled expectations on anyones partI was told by one of me peers that I was going a very good job

And as for the "down with" statement, I merely meant that I was now down in the pit with themnot a put down (LOL!) in anywaythey are great people! J

The coatit is a Burberry, and it came form a consignment store with a no-return policy. (I rarely buy anything from a mall.) Still, even for that price, I wouldnt have bought it now. Its so gorgeousI feel like a million bucks with it onJJJ

And---about the attitudeyoure right, and thats exactly what Ive been doing all week. Im still the same person I was this time last week, and Ill be that same person this time next week. While I hate being in this position, it is just a job, and it does not define me anymore than my MIL does.

So, Im disappointed, but Ill liveits OK, and Ill just start over again

    Enough of me

Patti(((((hugs))))) to you and your friendI can not imagine that pain

    NHSuzannegreat pics! JJ

    Marcithanks for the birthday exchange!

Gotta goRog will be home in a bit

    Love and hugs to all

    Hi again,

My friend drove off the road and flipped his car upside down in a marsh and drowned - buckled in his seat. Young guy - 54 - never been married, no kids, had tons of close friends. Anyway, that's the funeral I'll be at tomorrow on the island.

Maddie! Great to hear you are doing well and the job is not a big deal. Drive on!

I'll check in from the island....

Maddie - lots of hugs and good thoughts.

Dee - glad you are home!

    Raeanne - HAVE FUN!

BJ - I remember you posting about your friend. Hugs. I love that about your Mom with the green salad!

Patti - I am so sorry about your friend's daughter. I agree with what everyone has said - just let her know you are there for her.

Joanne - your Mom is still in my prayers.

I weighed in on Thursday and lost 1.4 for a grand total of 4.6 lbs in 2 weeks. A slow but hopefully steady start.

I will check in again over the weekend. It's Saturday which means errands and all the other fun things that need to be done.

    Good SUNDAY morning!

Just spent 3 hours paying bills that were stacked up. Youngest DSD's car has shut down (new engine will cost over $4,000), so any hopes of using my March bonus to pay off our credit cards is now dashed. She's looking for a used 1999 car, and looks like we will split cost with her mom...DSD has promised to cover all insurance, but it does hit us when we don't need it. Isn't it always the way?

Last load of laundry is in the dryer! I'm sure I'm ahead of BJ on that one! Hope you have a better day today, dear BJ.

Maddie, it was good to see you check in to put all that out on the table for us to share. Continue to remember that we are here for you....wish I was there to give more help, but here's hoping a virtual [[[[[[HUG]]]]] will ease the pain a bit.

OK, need to visit a few more sites and check the dryer.

    Make today count!!

    Hi all,

    Thanks for the hugs, everyone!

The funeral was short. It was WINDY, rainy, and yuccky outside, so they really went throgh the ceremony fast! 21 gun salute and TAPS touched everyone deeply. Then we all went INSIDE and ate (I passed on the food), told stories, and went home. It was a nice event.

I been on the island since yesterday and will go home tonight. Deemarie, I only had one load of laundry here today! But I have a PILE of it waiting for me at home!
