Here are a few photos of our snow -- most snow in one day in HISTORY -- DFW is basically shut down today! LOL!

Rosemary Cottage is pretty in the snow- although in DFW that ain't supposed to happen! Let me know if you don't ahve enough- we've got plenty to share! LOL

Isn't it incredible?! Guess we got over a foot of snow in 24 hours! Unfortunately, there are at least 175 homes in the area without power - my parents' among them. Ours flickered off and on a couple of times yesterday, but thankfully it's been on for the duration. My only complaint is that satellite tv is out, forcing one to resort to "the slow version of tv" -- books. ;-)

This path leads to the northeast side of the house. Chairs and spool table located on the north side of the house under my biggest weeping willow. I planted it 6 years ago. The tree cutters butchered it when they were trimming back limbs from the power lines. I was not happy, but it will grow back. To the left is where the fishpond is situated - on the other side of the white flowering Spirea. The rose & iris garden (formerly my Potager) and one peach tree are above the willow tree. There is another peach tree on the left just beyond the white-flowering spirea. You can just make out the gray metal of the greenhouse-tool shed in the background. At the top, left, you can see one of the large plum tree which obscures the henhouse and shades it in the hot summer, and one of the cherry trees now in bloom. Pale lilac/white Violets and native blue violets bloom under the willow tree - you can see them behind one of the chairs. I have four varieties of violets. Sweet! I love sitting out here under my willow. My Mum in her favorite garden pose. She looks a lot like actress, Elizabeth Smith, if you know who she is. Mother has a great sense of humour. I will have to upload more images. The ones I took two weeks ago from the orchard (northwest of house) and in back yard are nice views of my cottage gardens. There are some good shots from the driveway too. I will look for some good ones to share. ~Annie

THANK YOU everyone for your very nice comments. This is the first I was able to check back, and was I ever surprised. We are located 40 miles north and a little west of Harrisburg in a rural community. We are surrounded by farmland which they no longer prepare the 'old fashioned way'. It is now done by the no till method, and until the crop is somewhat mature the fields look ugly to me. I am of the generation of laying in bed, late at night, listening to the John Deere tractors putt, putt. I will post some close photos of the little house/potting shed, and some garden areas. The fourth photo background plant is a 'Karley Rose' grass. It is a favorite. When the dew is on it in the morning, and the sun comes up, it looks like it is wearing diamonds, as does the Smoke Tree. A lot of the daylilies found a good home, but over several years the DL bed became taken over with thistles. I contacted the county extension agent and he said in the DL bed they would be practically impossible to eradicate since they are a perennial. The daylilies were planted on a grid of 24" with not much room to work and it became such a chore I gave up on them. I am glad to say the thistles are almost non-existent, but being surrounded by fields they will always make their presence known, (along with a zazillion dandelion), but controllable. The agent though I might have gotten them originally from mushroom mulch. I will try and post more photos tomorrow evening. My DH and I are now making a wind chime with 8 chimes. I found the directions on the length of each chime and I marked the Conduit accordingly. My DH did the manual labor, but I would have tackled it if he had not taken pity on me. It is almost ready for it's unveiling. It sounds great with 3/4" tubing and the longest is 24" and a fraction long. Thanks again. Jane

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I do have the plant in a well draining potting medium. Never thought about repotting it so soon. I just repotted it last year. Do you think it needs a bigger pot? I have only been fertilizing with fish emulsion every once in a while. Should I get a better form of fertilizer?

I have a large rosemary that I have put outside (I live in Columbus, OH - zone 5b) during the summer and then bring inside in the fall before the first frost. It does okay. By the end of winter/early sping it starts to look like it will die, but when I put it outside in may, it springs back to life! I keep it in a south facing, large window and water it when it has gone completely dry. I have been doing this for 3 years now. I decorate it with Christmas lights and ornaments in December. I can't tell you how wonderful it is for a lamb-lover like myself to have fresh rosemary year-round. I would say to buy a hearty rosemary and give it a try! I can post a picture if you would like. Remember that it needs a lot of sunlight and good drainage. Without great drainage, it will die immediately.

Beautiful pictures! Jen, your DTV is out because of the snow on the dish. Can you get a ladder and sweep it off with something other than getting directly on the roof?

That second picture is absolutely beautiful, Jan! We got a couple of inches here but nothing like yours. Princess Posie can't stop running from window to window to look out...she can't understand how her white blanket got all OVER the yard :^)

WW)))OO))WW...we are having the same thing here today in Central Al and it has not slowed down yet. I have been out on my bike 2x so far and taking pictures. It is amazing to go down a hill at 25mph on a bike in a raging snow storm. My computer died so i will have to download the pics on Tues when I get it back. My gloves and shoes are on the heater drying...just like the kids used to do LOL.

LOVE YOUR PICS. and hope the electric comes back on for everyone asap. We are lucky to still have it. c

Hi, please forgive me if I'm out of line (newbie). I've never posted here before but I've lost trees to snow so wanted to say something.

Although they can look beautiful, if you have trees/bushes with leaves and they get weighed down with snow the branches can break very easily. When we get snow here out of season I always go outside with a broom (or something) and shake the branches until I knock all the snow off. Trees that have lost their leaves and are used to snow don't suffer, but when they've leafed out and we get a late snowfall, it's awful when the branches break off.
Again, I am just trying to help. :o)

Missy: Actually it was VERY kind of you to mention that good point! :) Really kind! We will be shaking the snow off the giant rosemary bush this morning! Other folks around the neighbourhood have indeed lost tree limbs to this storm! :)

And the snow is indeed STARTING to melt -- quite incredible to think that there are STILL LOTS of folks without power because of breaking tree limbs!

You're welcome, Jan! I never want to step on toes. Lots of folks would already know this, but if someone isn't used to snow, then they may not think of it. :o)
It's so sad to lose trees/bushes when a simple shaking can save them.
