I am glad you have had some good (or less bad) news. Good to hear that your mom is feeling better and it is wonderful news that Mason is enjoying life! Sending you lots of good energy.

So sorry to hear about your Mom. Hope she continues to do well.

Our Dobe died of a heart attack - we were going on a walk, and my Dad felt the leash tug behind him and Chino just stopped walking, sat down and stared my Dad in the eyes and then keeled over. It was a blessing it was so quick, but my Dad was a mess for quite awhile. He was 8 when he died.

It's so hard when your dog's get old, it seems to happen so quickly.

That happened to us with our first dobie, Mikaela, when she was eight. I clearly remember those "stare into space" moments with her, too. I'm so sorry, Whitdobe!

Mason has now had a few more serious episodes when I thought for sure it was the end but, he's managed to pull himself back from the brink. He's eating well, playing with Jovi and generally enjoying life.

Sadly, while I was watching him like a hawk, the end of my 14 1/2 Doberman's life arrived. I'm grateful that she had such a long life and I'm grateful that the end was quick for her but this past week has been so hard. She left us on Monday and Mason is only now starting to act more "normal". He come into our home as a tiny puppy and I think he regarded Whit as his "Mom". Her death hit him along with the rest of us very hard. I still can't talk about her without dissolving into tears.

Every year in April I took a photo of Whit in front of the azaleas in our backyard. There won't be a photo this year so, this is from when she was 13 1/2.

Jovi has been a blessing during this week. My DH and I are heartbroken and Mason has been so "clingy". Jovi did go though a couple of days of "looking for Whitney" but she wasn't affected nearly as much as the rest of us. Her antics have helped us smile again at times.

So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful girl. She looks so wise and knowing. Your dogs are very lucky to have had such wonderful lives with you. So hard to say goodbye.

Oh so sorry :>( They do break our hearts....but oh so worth it all.

Oh whitdob, I am so sorry to hear of Whitney's passing. Somehow I didn't expect her to go first. (((Hugs!)))

I am still struggling with our big dog, Dubs. I've been busy cooking for him, giving him medication, etc. Unfortunately, he is now losing control of his bladder so I have been sewing diapers like crazy as I don't like the design of the store bought ones. I bought some (human) male liners at the drug store and they hold a tremendous amount of fluids. He is having to go outside about 4 times a night and even then his diaper liner is soaked in the morning. His time is coming soon and I'm hoping I am brave enough to recognize when that time is here. He is a stellar patient. When he hears the pill bottle rattle, he comes every time. He stands patiently while I try on new diaper designs and lets me change him without complaint.

Hoping Mason continues doing well and that Jovi lessens the blow of his Whitney loss. Why can't dogs live longer?

You're braver and stronger than you know however! It showed when you had the strength to post that beautiful Pic of Whit. Beautiful pic of a beautiful soul...

Maybe our beloved Golden, Sashi (whom we lost in Oct. '09), and your beautiful Whit are now playing on the other side of that bridge...

I'm so sorry. Whitney was beautiful. Definitely let yourself laugh at Jovi's clowning during this time. You'll need every laugh you can get!

I'm so sorry. It brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear someone's beloved pet is gone. They bring tremendous amounts of joy to our lives and then equal amounts of sorrow.

Although my dog's a Pointer, I see her eye's in Whit's. And I can only imagine your loss.

The other dogs will perk up in a week or so.

I am so sorry that you're going through all of this. It's never easy - we just love them so much. I hope Mason improves. I loved Jovi's photo - she almost looks like a fox.

Thank you all so much. Whitney was a very special girl...my first Doberman, my first agility dog and a huge piece of my heart. I miss her tremendously but I'm trying to be grateful for all the wonderful things she's meant to me over the years. Helps to think of her running and playing with other beloved dogs over rainbow bridge.

Golddust, I'm so sorry to hear that Dubs is having the urinary incontinence. I know firsthand, from when Mason was on heavy meds to drain the fluid around his heart, just how difficult it is to live with a dog that needs to go out every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I did that for a month before the vet decided to cut the meds back and quite honestly, I don't know if I could have handled it for much longer. It's a cumulative thing....I know you're not ever getting a good nights sleep anymore and no one can take that forever. It's great that you sew so that you can tailor/design diapers for him. He's a good boy for standing all the modeling. I really hope that his situation improves because it's hard on you and I do believe that it's hard on him too. (Mason, if he had an accident when he was on those drugs, was so embarrassed!) Hugs to you and Dubs, I really wish the best for both of you!

I'm late, but homebodymom says what I wanted to say, so I second her post. Curveballs are so difficult to handle, and sometimes it seems that's what life is exclusively made of. But Whit loved you, that's clear from the picture, and there's really no greater honor from an animal than the look that was in her eyes in that photo. (((HUGS to Mason and of course Jovi)))

I am so; so sorry about Whitney. I opened the post to see what was up with Mason & am shocked to see you lost Whitney. I hope Mason's heart has evened out.

Oh, I am SO sorry. That picture of Whit is amazing-what a beauty with such perfect makings. Breaks my heart every time I hear of someone losing a pet and 14.5 is such a wonderfully long time to have had her in your life. Not surprising that Mason feels the loss so keenly. I hope Jovi brings you as much joy for as many years and that she keeps Mason young and enjoying life for a long time.
